Considering
3 Nephi 26:21,
D&C 27:8 and section 107 ...

Mormon is not the name of God,
and constantly saying Jesus Christ,
is too much repetition. So what then?

Being so pedantic about minor terms like this is a form of thought control. It turns us from normal humans into automatons walking on eggshells about what the latest acceptable euphemism on a given subject is. And it teaches us to be offended for no reason.
I understand why African American is used. It's because so many other groups in the States use double names. People who've been nowhere near Ireland call themselves Irish American, and oftentimes they aren't very Irish (cough Biden*). Numerous other examples.

I don't entirely see this as a euphemism, more a way of giving them an origin. They are African in origin although most of them have European ancestry too.

* I think 1932 is a typo for 1832 here. Either way, Biden is barely Irish despite his ancestry.

Hyphenations are for minorities. Very few white people here will tell you nowadays that they are something like a "German American" or a "Norwegian American." If Biden said that then he's just distracting from the fact that he's got nothing going for him in the way of "diversity."

That could be quite a mouthful: "I'm English-Swedish-Irish-Scottish-American with less than 2% of assorted other nationalities thrown in."

There was a school shooting near me today. I’m in TX. The first article I read about it said the shooter was Black. I was pleased they were clear in the description, and also didn’t go for Af-American, as I don’t know many people who have even been to Africa.
that was cold . . .I've never been to scotland but I can call myself a scottish american under the new rules. . . . or maybe a swiss american . . . or maybe an english swiss scottish american . . . or . . . . we probably need more choices on the job app;ications and census . . I always have to check white . . it is so racial . . I think I choose that based on the color of my skin . . .
