Boyd K. Packer to speak to Draper, UT Stake tomorrow

Post by Col. Flagg »

My mother notified me that President Boyd K. Packer is scheduled to address the members of my brother's Stake in Draper tomorrow in a special meeting that was called (it's not Stake Conference). I'd like to attend, but I don't know for sure if I'll be able to, so I've asked my mother to take good notes. Just an FYI for everyone. The subject material he has been speaking on since last April and the fact that this is not a Stake Conference makes this quite an appealing meeting. I don't know anymore details than that.

I don't know why an entire Stake would be called to a meeting on Sunday just because there is a new temple up there, but I don't know? Is this a regular occurrence for all stakes within close proximity of a new temple?

pj... this is no hoax.

I'm not sure... it's within my brother's ward boundary and he lives along the southeast bench, not too far from the new temple. All I can verify is that it is a special meeting that was called for his Stake members with Pres. Packer as the featured speaker.

We'll expect a full report, Colonel! Does you Mom have a tape recorder? I think we would all like some further instruction from those in authority now. When is General Conference again? Not soon enough...

That is pretty good guess! They would let everyone know Pres Packer was going to be there to encourage attendance.

Ok Colonel where are you? Is it about the temple dedication, new stake presidency or is the mountain going to slide a little? The suspense is killing me.

Sorry to keep some of you in suspense like that... we have church until 2:00 and I've been busy with other things since we got home.

First, this was not a meeting to release the Stake Presidency, so that did not occur. In fact, it was revealed to the members of the Stake that Pres. Packer and a few other G.A.'s wanted to meet with this Draper Stake Presidency for a few hours and that the special meeting was a 'by-product' of it (so to speak).

OK, in a nutshell, here is what my Mom reported was said... Pres. Packer told the Stake membership that the time of trouble ahead of us was going to be deeper and wider than we are being led to believe. He stressed the importance of remaining close to the church right now and that if there was ever a time to attend your meetings, pay your tithing and doing those things that will help bring us closer to our Lord and Savior, the time was now. Pres. Packer also told everyone that the brethren are aware of what is going on in the world and that the church is prepared to deal with whatever adversity falls upon it. In addition, he talked about some personal experiences that my Mom felt was to help prepare the members for the prospect of sacrifice and enduring trials and tests of faith. Pres. Packer spoke for about 45 minutes. Other subjects were touched on as well, although, it wasn't anything we haven't heard counseled to us before.

IMO, the brethren are trying to prepare us for some very disturbing, troubling and challenging times ahead for not just us as Saints, but also this nation. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the time is soon coming when the wheat will be separated from the tares within the ranks of the church and that as a nation, we are approaching a time of financial and economic turmoil the likes of which we've never seen before, all thanks to modern day LDG's (government officials, bankers, multi-national corporations and the military-industrial complex) as part of Satan's plan of gaining power and control over the nations of the earth.

Of note: The part I bolded above is the umteenth time Pres. Packer has warned of trouble ahead since April of last year, when he told a Highland Stake that a catastrophe was coming. I also have a brother in Arizona who says that Pres. Packer was recently down there delivering similar messages to Stakes as well. So, as far as I know, Utah and Arizona have been the only two states where Pres. Packer has been warning of these things. Why... :?:

Interesting. It would be nice to have him come to our stake. Or maybe we will get a taste of it at GC, but the stakes he is visiting now are even in greater need before April for this message.

There was a YSA fireside this evening. I forgot to attend, it will be broadcast on KBYU and BYU-TV next Sunday. I just set my DVR. Robert D. Hales was the speaker.

It certainly is exciting to live in the times we do. Now I just gotta get my own self more spiritually prepared.

Spence, you know what excites me is that we are actually witnessing a servant of the Lord using one of his 'gifts of the spirit' given to prophets and apostles by the Lord (according to their worthiness) and informing church members of what he has foreseen (although not in any detail, but it must be with the blessing of the First Presidency, otherwise, he would not be issuing the warnings he has). I actually taught a lesson about this in Deacon's quorum today. :D To be honest, we're lucky to be getting these prophetic warnings still because we were warned over 45 years ago by none other than Eztra Taft Benson.

We've heard warnings all of our lives but for some reason, we just didn't seem to internalize them. But now, the time has passed when we could be lackadasaical about such things. It's just so evident that we're in for some major changes soon. Part of me wishes it weren't so....but then I think how blessed I am to live in this time that has been foretold for millenia. It's exciting, but it's also a grave responsibility.

I feel especially blessed because my daughter attended church with me today for the first time in almost 15 years. I feel such joy that I can't express it. The Spirit nudged her and she listened. Isn't the gospel wonderful! :)

My mother had their stake conference today and a seventy was there. The talks centered around sacrifice and following Christ. The seventy got up and gave the last talk. He spoke of the calamities, earthquakes, waves, persecutions etc. He said these things are preordained and we are not to pray for them to cease, but we are to live Christlike lives to weather the storm. I am paraphrasing, so these are my words, but this was the general theme of his talk. She could not remember his name, so I do not know who he was, but it was in the Suprise Arizona area.

Wonderful news Kathyn. Having a testimony is wonderful in these last days. I haven't gotten to the point that I don't fear - but I can't imagine facing these times, and and hardships that will be coming without a testimony of the Lord's plan, and our own part in the plan.

I appreciated your post about BKP words today Col. Nothing we haven't been hearing - prepare temporally, but especially spiritually.

Allright Guys,

We have known for a long time that these trials would come.

What we don't need is panic.

What we do need is urgent calm.

Col,
Thanks so much for the update. I'm getting so excited for general conference. Just hearing the words of the apostles and prophets is comforting and inspiring, especially in these troubling times.
