RIP Dennis Waterman, pictured above in his fondly remembered role in 80s British TV show Minder (he's the red head)... in which he played Terry McCann, an ex-boxer and bodyguard to a very shady London businessman. He also appeared in New Tricks and numerous other series. He usually played no nonsense working class/blue collar British roles.

He was very famous in the UK, Australia and NZ... but I doubt North Americans will have heard of him!

None of the obits give any cause of death, other than his wife being at his side, so not sudden.

One of our ward members died in her sleep in her forties. That was ten years ago now. It was very unusual back then but seems to he happening more and more now. I've never heard of anyone I know dying in their sleep in their twenties or thirties.

As I've said above, I do place a disclaimer on these and don't think they are necessarily related. I try and note those that may be. But I am ageist in my selections, because basically between early childhood and middle age, your chances of dying are pretty low in developed countries. Many small babies do die, of course, but after five that number goes down considerably except for accidents, and doesn't start rising again until someone hits their forties. The risk of dying in the forties and fifties is still fairly low, and until recently many people got through their sixties and even seventies too.

I think 80 is a realistic expectation for many people in the west who are healthy. Many will reach 90 and beyond. A minority has always died young, but that's it, a tiny minority. People who die in their teens, twenties and thirties are the exceptions, not the rule. You are more likely to die by your own hand or in a car crash at that age.

The former EastEnders star and Love Actually actor posted a photo of herself with her younger brother Laurence John, known as LJ, and said that he had died two weeks ago with "no medical explanation".

She wrote: "My heart is forever broken…My baby brother, my gentle giant, sadly passed away, suddenly, 2 weeks ago. He was 31 years old.

"There is no medical explanation as to why we lost him so soon and whilst we investigate further, we are having to accept that nothing will bring our boy back to us."
