I've lurked here for some time and even registered at one point. Then I forgot my name and decided it would be easier to just re-register, especially since I only posted once. Because of all the good I've found here, I thought I'd give back a little.

This blog post is by a woman who had to live off her food storage. The most fascinating part is when she talked about the amount needed. She linked to the calculator on LDS.org and said that she found she needed three times the amount given. It's easy to forget that the numbers the Church gives are bare subsistence levels (which might the focus on storing three months of food that we already eat... it will help show us just how much food our family really needs).
The only thing I disagreed with was her focus on wheat. We found wheat is hard on children's tummies, especially if it's not soaked, sprouted or sponged; we're adjusting our food storage to focus more on other grains for the little ones.

RICE!!! Rice is easier to cook, and eat and easier for the kids. Oh and it lasts just as long as wheat.
