Cool, you did a nice four segment breakdown of the thread title, prior to the four-hour four-state record setting tornado. The Philippines were hit by another cat 5, but most outside the USA don’t get much attention, but those are the ones that OTEC could most easily neutralize saving many from complete destruction. But alas we chose to fund the precious few via OPEC rather than the downtrodden masses, much the same as our progenitors before us, choosing to partake of the forbidden fruit. Vast oil reserves were placed in the Middle East, much the same as an enticing tree was placed in the Midst of the Garden of Eden. The similarities should come at no great surprise, likewise our collective bad choice, and expected outcome.

To add a bit more to this. A close family member works for a large insurance company, and the claims are pouring in from these wind storms and tornado damage, etc. that we had this week. He forwarded me this graphic, which I thought was interesting -

It was already the 3rd worst year in recorded history for cost of disasters, and that was before the record breaking quad-state tornado outbreak and this record breaking wind-gust event.

Update: wait, that "3rd worst" is globally. I don't remember if it's a near-record year for the USA. But, it is the 2nd worst in terms of number of billion-dollar disasters, second to the year 2020, so this year must be near record breaking in overall cost.

2021 most violent and destructive weather year on record in Canada.
The record-breaking heatwave that scorched British Columbia this summer took the top spot on the list. Number two was B.C.’s destructive rainstorms that set off flooding and landslides last month.

The first December derecho in U.S. history
The storm will go down as the worst late-fall or winter thunderstorm in Iowa's recorded history. 43 tornadoes resulted from the Dec. 15 derecho that swept across Iowa — more than seven times the total number of tornadoes to take shape in December in Iowa since 1950, and the most tornadoes in any single day in the state's historical record.

I find this Youtube channel to be rather eye-opening, despite the name of the channel.

All of those events happened in the course of three days all around the world.

I heard that there was a storm/hurricane slated to hit the east coast of Canada. Do you know anything about that? Whether it ended up happening?

Ian just made landfall in Southwest Florida as a Category 4 (nearly Cat 5) Hurricane.

I know someone living in Florida (Palm Springs, I think) - a family with very young children. I hope they'll be okay.

Yes, it happened, although downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone.

Some of those pictures . . . Wow! 😲
And that last picture. It looks like the truck was like the little kid who wanted to go for a ride and jumped into the back of a pickup. Only he was too big to fit. Oops.

Yeah, and if I’m not wrong, last one California received was 1858. A year before the Carrington Event. Hmm.
