Connecticut Legalizes Marijuana to Combat ‘Racial Disparities’, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D) signed a bill into law Tuesday that legalizes possession of marijuana in the state and anticipates retail sales of the drug in 2022.

You knew this was coming. Good idea, bad reasoning. Of all the reasons to legalize Weed... why Racial prejeduce of all things?

Because certain populations have higher incidence of arrest and prison ttime for possession of small amounts of drugs.

You can argue are there more arrests because of higher incidence of drug use or more arrests because of racial prejudices of police. But The Dems no longer waste time arguing, they are willing to concede there is higher rates of use and arrests but claim it is systemic racism to say drug use is illegal because it reflects values of white people and the drug using minority is the victum.

Are higher incidents of drug use among non-whites? Possibly. Is there racial profiling? I bet there is. I think its more of a chicken and the egg situation where the two things just feed off each other... more drug use encourages cops to racial profile... which in turn encourages mistrust and retalatory violence against cops, which leads to cementing racial profiling and an increase in drug use and other crimes and then the cycle just continues.

Sadly, the dangers of drug use is no longer part of the discussion. Nor do the talk about damage drugs to kids, families or communities.

In the 60s 70s activists argued the government or racists were pushing drugs on minority communities with intentions to hurt the community. Now it is considered racism if drugs are not legal and readily available.
