RIGBY, Idaho — When a student opened fire at an Idaho middle school, teacher Krista Gneiting directed children to safety, rushed to help a wounded victim and then calmly disarmed the sixth-grade shooter, hugging and consoling the girl until police arrived.
While two students and the school custodian were shot on May 6, all three survived.

RIGBY, Idaho — Nearly two weeks after three people were shot at a middle school in Rigby, Idaho, the teacher who disarmed the shooter spoke out about what she witnessed and how her actions helped to prevent more injuries.
The shooter was a 6th grade female student who lives in Idaho Falls but attends Rigby Middle School. The girl shot two victims in a hallway and one outside. All three victims have been released from the hospital and are expected to survive.
Gneiting told ABC News she was helping one of the students who had been shot when she saw the girl holding a gun.
"I just walked up to her and I put my hand over her hand, I just slowly pulled the gun out of her hand and she allowed me to," Gneiting said in the interview. "She didn't give it to me but she didn't fight. And then after I got the gun, I just pulled her into a hug because I thought, this little girl has a mom somewhere that doesn't realize she's having a breakdown and she's hurting people."
As she held the girl, Gneiting said she called 911 and stayed with her until police arrived.
"After a while, the girl started talking to me and I could tell she was very unhappy," Gneiting told GMA. "I just kept hugging her and loving her and trying to let her know that we're going to get through this together."

I don't want to sound callous, but this will sound that to some.
All school shootings have two things in common: guns and schools.
During the forced isolation of quarantine one of those two common factors was no longer available, and the result was no school shootings.
Maybe as a society we could recognize that the giant public school system is a failed model and try a new approach that gives kids more of what they need...smaller groups and closer relationships with teachers like Krista so the kids feel part of a community.
Or we can continue to pass ineffectual gun laws, higher more ineffective counselors ,
add more security and police to the failing schools and wish for different results.

Two things would solve it:
Homeschool
Or
All teachers carry arms.

I say we try two other things:
1. Love God.
2. Love your neighbor.

I agree with your statement. As a previous HS teacher, these are the only solutions. The public school indoctrination experiment has failed. It pains me to see the wonderful student that must attend these hell-holes because their parents want big houses, new cars, and fancy vacations just so they can post them on Instagram and Facebook. Many wonderful students have to sit through hell each day because their parents are selfish. And yes, members of the church are particularly guilty of this where I live.
