Shadow did you read the March Ensign??, Please look at the cover, There is one of the Virgins pouring Oil it says
Self-Reliance Spiritual and Physical. PP. 48-65.
No it is not all spiritual. It is also Physical. Pg 56, is all about food storage. SELF RELIANCE.
The ten virgins parable has been defined a spiritual in nature. Food storage is not the oil. Those who keep claiming it is are not understanding the parable and using it as some scape goat to not keep the true commandment of loving your neighbor like unto yourself
. I disagree, it is both.
Regarding Pres. Benson's remarks. If the Lord chose at that time to create a famine of a years duration it could wipe out some members. How would it wipe them out? Would it kill them or just make them go inactive? Would they be too proud or embarrassed to seek help from those that prepared? Would they be asked to do hard things (work for the food) and refuse? Would they take the mark of the beast as an alternative to seeking help from another member? Would they go to a fema camp? You don't know and neither do I, but to say that it means that no one is allowed to share their blessings with them is a bit naive to me. God has always been a merciful God.
President Benson was talking about food storage, I have read the complete talk did you?
Don't even try to twist it to justify the Lack of being unprepared.

And the #1 reason why I don't have my year's supply of food? A year?? I thought it was 72 hours!!
My wife is from the Philippines and that idea/excuse is common there. One time I told her that that wasn't really what the prophet said. She said something like, it comes from the area authorities, and who do they get their instructions from?

ndjili wrote:Actually my mom and I watched some evangelical on TV and he was talking about all the troubles we'll have and food will be scarce blah blah blah. Anyway instead of teaching food storage he went into some crazy rant about mana. About "if you (wait wait we need inflection here so imagine an old evangelical pastor, with a bad tupee shakin his hands up at heaven and doing his best evagelical praisin' ok now we're ready) "If you take Jesus (need a slight southern accent on the Jesus part here) If you take Jesus as you personal Savior he will rain mana down from the sky in your time of need and then when the time is right you will be raptured into Heaven. can I get an Amen." Yeah so apparently most Christians think that they'll get mana and then get raptured. Um wouldnt it be easier just to rapture them? Ok I went off on a crazy rant but other Christians see it coming but their leaders are telling them not to prepare.
Nice!

Hey smarty pants, where did I ever say Pres. Benson wasn't talking about food storage?? You obviously missed my point.
I'm not trying to justify being unprepared (I do have over a yr supply), tho we are ALL unprepared and unprofitable to boot (thanks King Benjamin). I'm trying to say that charity suffereth long......Moroni 7:45. Get it?
Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, Godliness, charity, humility, diligence. Ask and ye shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you. Which qualities do you plan on forgetting when times get tough? Is it charity or brotherly kindness? Maybe it's Godliness? Certainly patience is out of the question. Faith too. Am I close?
If you don't plan on giving that's fine. More power to you. But I do and that should be fine too.

Alright guys, its not just "food" storage. How about toilet paper, deodorant, bandaids, soap, water, etc. etc. Imagine 3 months without the paper goods, or other stuff like shampoo, razors, etc.

Being prepared, in both ways is vital. Lacking in any Area, Spirtually or physically, is an inncorrect principle.

I agree, Giving or not thats between me and the Lord. He knows me, Whether you give or not, Also that is between you and the Lord. Whether someone unprepared will Be able to live off from someone who is prepared again that is between them and the Lord. I never said you were unprepared,
If we end up sharing, Great.
However, If someone is unprepared they should not count on
Being able to share, Would you?

I know in Isaiah chapter 3:24 he mentions that the unrighteous daughters of Zion in the last days shall be bald, stinky and ugly.
I wonder if this will be because they fail to purchase the above mentioned items as part of there emergency preparedness items.
What do you think?
Attention: ALL HOT single sisters.
Pease purchase plenty of the above mentioned items.
IF I am going to live plural marriage someday, I would like you to still be HOT HOT HOT!

That was great. I'm married so I dont have to worry about it, my hubs is stuck. sucka.

Oh yeah wait I already got all that stuff.
P.S. Hum actually I hope girls will be ugly, then my hubs will think twice about plural marriage. He doesnt like the idea of it either though. He says one woman is enough aggrevation for him.

"Hum actually I hope girls will be ugly, then my hubs will think twice about plural marriage."
Amazing. What a selfish attitude.
Aren't we supposed to wish for the best for others?
And you wish for girls to be cursed with ugliness?
Repentance and a change of heart regarding what you wish for others would probably be a good thing for you.

Wow!
1. Are we really turning this into a sharing discussion again?
2. Is this discussion really going in the direction it seems to be going right now?

I apologize. (My bad. See. I'm not above having to say sorry).
As far as all the girls being HOT HOT HOT.
I am only wishing for the best for Heavenly Father's Children.

I believe that if the time comes, we will band together in our wards and stakes, combine resources and share. This will be somewhat difficult for those that prepared and the ones that didn't should have a huge dose of humility. But if it gets us through, then I believe we will all be more spiritual, and more intune with what's really important. It also goes that as a group, we will be able to protect ourselves better.

Here's reason #11:
Oh right, yes, we need to do it. We'll get going on that... soon.
Pure procrastination.
I have yet to meet a church member who didn't think it was a good idea to get prepared and acquire food storage. It simply isn't a priority.
Lulled by carnal security might be another way of putting it.
