It is strange that Romney was a pretty good candidate in 2012 (far better than McCain). I say "pretty good", but I still felt he was not all that strong in his basic principles. He didn't pull them into his positions.

He was painted as a money grubber and he let them carry the narrative. It hurt him in many ways.

I don't know the whole story, but it seems like he has been a Trump distractor for some time. He calls Trump out on things I see as being his weaknesses too.

I don't see Trump as being very principled.

I am not sure Romney is either (in political and government matters....don't know about his faith).
I remember the interview where he denied the foundation of his religion for political expediency. https://youtu.be/ZDt0Mqpd23E
I will look at the video sometime soon.

I prefer not to get caught up in controversy on Sunday.

However, I am hoping you have not applied a conclusion that is not supported. If this is your opinion, please state it as such. If you are saying this is for sure the case and I don't agree....then I lose trust in you or anyone else who does the same.
Lol. Then get off controversial message boards on Sunday. I couldn’t care less if you trust me.
Your last statement helps me understand where you sit in a message board community.

Thank you for clarifying it.

Hope you have a good Sunday.

Glad you got it figured out. I’m not here to be hypocritically pretentious doing exactly what I say I prefer not to do.

The bigger question in my mind is "Why are you here?" (and this is asked rhetorically....I would not expect an answer from anyone).

Right. People project their own weaknesses onto other people all the time. Mitt did this in spades in his Hinckley Institute talk, March of 2016. It is also characteristic of people caught up in a very toxic mindset about something or someone. They lose their objectivity to a large degree regarding whoever they target.

Trump may not be that principled, per se, but he did act with a goodly amount of integrity in fulfilling and trying fulfill his campaign promises, many of which were in line with Constitutional principles, and certainly in line with a good vision of how to achieve economic prosperity, etc.

Romney proved by his own words right after his introduction of why he is a bad senator. He defended himself by saying he "voted his conscience". He wasn't elected to represent his conscience, he was elected to represent his constituent's which are not just the inner circle of the republican party leadership in Utah.

Mitt is a Bush RINO. Notice how George W joined the democrats and forsook his party. Mitt basically did the same thing even after Trump supported him to get elected here in Utah.

I'd boo Mitt Romney.

He irritates me with his silly positions.

If he'd settle into some good policy efforts, he'd do well.

As it is, he's giving Utah a bad name.

He either did or attempted to do nearly all his promises that I'm aware of.

And the thing that especially curdled me about Mitt was his saying that he agreed with much of what Trump was doing before he got the nomination, but as soon as he clinched it, the gloves came off with immediate attacks on Trump.

My fantasy about Mitt is that he was forced to carpetbag into Utah and run for the Senate to provide one more anti-Trump voice the elites needed to counter Trump. They knew Mitt was a shoe in because of his strong LDS affiliation and because of his 2012 Presidential run. I.e., he may not have wanted to make the run, but they had enough on him to force the issue.

Anyone remember the camera pans of Mitt during the first State of the Union address by Trump?? In the midst of his very happy Republican Congressmen, he looked abjectly depressed.

It's simply hard for me to understand how a rational man could do the the things Mitt did with his anti-Trump activity.

The greater question is how come voters cannot see Mitt's long history of irrational political positions?

He's going to lose a more important vote when he enters his next primary.
