The Pope doesn't deserve anyone's respect and admiration, let alone a title denoting Godliness
Jesus had no problem calling a spade a spade when it came to the Scribes and Pharisees. Neither did Joseph Smith when he called out the enemies of the Saints
I don't think anyone (myself included) has a problem with refering to Francis as "The Pope" or "Pope Francis" because that title is recognized universally by everyone as being simply what you call the leader of the Catholic Church. Just as everyone seems to be okay with referring to Nelson as the "President" of the church because that's a secular title, just as "Pope" more or less is today. But nobody really refers to the President of the Church as "The Prophet" unless you are a devout member of the LDS church.
