When President Nelson met Pope Francis

Posted: January 19th, 2021, 9:53 am
Someone posted the video here a while back. In this video Nelson referers to Francis as "His Holiness". Seems kind of odd he would do that because that seems like a title that would be used by devout Catholics not those of other religions. I doubt Pope Francis referers to Nelson as "The Prophet".

And it's a shame he doesn't. I have no problem with Nelson adding the honorific.

I wonder if President Nelson knows that Pope Francis is a pedophile?

I do

The Pope doesn't deserve anyone's respect and admiration, let alone a title denoting Godliness

I reserve judgement for God. What good would come for slighting a person in public? Pettiness is for meanspirited children.

Jesus had no problem calling a spade a spade when it came to the Scribes and Pharisees. Neither did Joseph Smith when he called out the enemies of the Saints

I don't think anyone (myself included) has a problem with refering to Francis as "The Pope" or "Pope Francis" because that title is recognized universally by everyone as being simply what you call the leader of the Catholic Church. Just as everyone seems to be okay with referring to Nelson as the "President" of the church because that's a secular title, just as "Pope" more or less is today. But nobody really refers to the President of the Church as "The Prophet" unless you are a devout member of the LDS church. Correct me if I'm wrong but "His Holiness" is a very specific title that bestows divinity on a person so it seems odd Nelson would use that when referring to the Pope.

It doesn't bestow anything. It's simply a matter of respect. This is just an excuse for some to strain at gnats when I suspect they've already swallowed a whole camel.

7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. 8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
