Kind of reminds me of the Lysander Spooner quote:
“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.”
It was pushed and created by arch nationalists who hated the radical decentralization of the Articles, and it has been a fight ever since.
It was eventually destroyed in the 1860s.
We have been living in a post destroyed Constitution environment ever since.
It has ever been a fight between Lincolnian Nationalism and Jeffersonian Federalism.
