How will the Lord Cleanse the Church?

Here is a question to ponder, When the Lord cleanses the Church, How will he do it? How has he done it in the past?
D&C 112:24-26
24 Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of bdesolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
25 And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;
26 First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.
Any thoughts?

Persecution will be a major part of the test or cleansing/sifting. Who can take the heat in defense of Christ? That's the test I think will determine the wheat/tares.
Food storage will probably have very little if anything to do with it IMO.

Ideas from the scriptures:
Increasing intellectual persecution - scoffers will ridicule piety (2 Pet 3:3) and specifically LDS beliefs and standards such that many will fall away because they cannot withstand not being a part of the world. They will have tasted the fruit of the gospel and then become embarrassed when mocked. (Lehi) Already happening
General wickedness will abound to the point that the rising generation will be without a fair choice between right and wrong. (Benson) A generational split like the one in Mosiah 26. Also, I believe already happening, at least the fair choice part
People will mock our 'timing', probably because Christians generally start clamoring that the Second Coming is imminent, and then when the deadline passes without advent the persecution is ramped up. (3 Nephi) I wonder about this one especially with all of the hulabaloo surrounding 2012. Seems like the History channel is broadcasting about Nostradamus or the Mayan calender every night lately - setting up the pretense of a deadline perhaps? I've no clue - just speculating on that last bit.
Then again, it could be NT style with apostles being physically attacked and martyred. This time over 'political' issues like abortion and gay marriage. Members could be driven into hiding and many could abandon the faith out of fear.

How will the Lord cleanse the Church?
Possibly as President Benson said: A famine of one years duration would wipe out the slothful Saints.
So please, dont interfere with what may be the Lord's plan.

Section 112:
23 Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.
2 Nephi 28:
11 Yea, they have all gone out of the way; they have become corrupted.
17 But behold, if the inhabitants of the earth shall repent of their wickedness and abominations they shall not be destroyed, saith the Lord of Hosts.
18 But behold, that great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth, must tumble to the earth, and great must be the fall thereof.
21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.
24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
3 Nephi 16:
10 And thus commandeth the Father that I should say unto you: At that day when the Gentiles shall sin against my gospel, and shall be lifted up in the pride of their hearts above all nations, and above all the people of the whole earth, and shall be filled with all manner of lyings, and of deceits, and of mischiefs, and all manner of hypocrisy, and murders, and priestcrafts, and whoredoms, and of secret abominations; and if they shall do all those things, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, behold, saith the Father, I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them.
13 But if the Gentiles will repent and return unto me, saith the Father, behold they shall be numbered among my people, O house of Israel.
14 And I will not suffer my people, who are of the house of Israel, to go through among them, and tread them down, saith the Father.
15 But if they will not turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, I will suffer them, yea, I will suffer my people, O house of Israel, that they shall go through among them, and shall tread them down, and they shall be as salt that has lost its savor, which is thenceforth good for nothing but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of my people, O house of Israel.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, thus hath the Father commanded me—that I should give unto this people this land for their inheritance.
3 Nephi 20:
15 Then shall ye, who are a remnant of the house of Jacob, go forth among them; and ye shall be in the midst of them who are many; and ye shall be among them as a lion among the beasts of the forest, and as a young lion among the sheep who, if he goeth through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

SATAN WILL DECEIVE “THE WHOLE WORLD”
If it be true that only one half of that small group designated by the Lord as “virgins” will
avoid being deceived into joining the devil’s church, deception constitutes one of the gravest risks faced in this life. However, very few seem to give the problem much thought even though the scriptures are filled with warnings against it. Of course, many never read those warnings, but those who do tend to apply them to others. Consequently, indifference to the problem is quite general.
Being unaware of the danger, people take no measures to defend themselves against it, and thus fall easy victims to one of Satan’s most formidable weapons.
The scriptures concerning it are numerous. Let us consider just a few. The following passage from Revelations reveals that Satan “deceiveth the whole world:”
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelations 12:9)
Then here are two scriptures from modern revelation which convey a similar meaning: …for Satan is abroad in the land, and he goeth forth deceiving the nations. (D&C 52:14)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face. (D&C 112:23)

What exactly is the Devils Church. Is it a church or lack or belief in God....what does that mean exactly. I am just courious to others thoughts are....
I also think we will have to live the law of consecration with our food storage. I have had many bishops say this to me. So I don't think we will just keep it for ourselves in a time of need.

IMHO, after reading what they plan with project bluebeam, coupled with the fact that the PTB are luciferian (sorry he dosent deserve caps.

)and the fact that in the Bible and BOM, satan has a history of demanding worship, oh yeah and the statement made by JS that the book of revelations is one of the plainest books in the Bible, I think that the church of the devil is going to literally be the church of the devil.

I have my doubts about project blue beam... I can see the holographic images being produced and appearing real to people, but how would they manage to achieve getting sound to the nations from space and the images 'speaking' so that sound producing different languages across the planet coerces the masses into believing what they were seeing? This sounds more like science fiction than anything.

26 And in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them, and they shall say that Christ delayeth his coming until the end of the earth.
27 And the love of men shall wax cold, and iniquity shall abound.
28 And when the times of the Gentiles is come in, a light shall break forth among them that sit in darkness, and it shall be the fulness of my gospel;
29 But they receive it not; for they perceive not the light, and they turn their hearts from me because of the precepts of men.
30 And in that generation shall the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
31 And there shall be men standing in that generation, that shall not pass until they shall see an overflowing scourge; for a desolating sickness shall cover the land.
32 But my disciples shall stand in holy places, and shall not be moved; but among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die.
33 And there shall be earthquakes also in divers places, and many desolations; yet men will harden their hearts against me, and they will take up the sword, one against another, and they will kill one another.

I agree with most here that the Church will be cleansed in the same way the Lord has done it in the past. As the World and the Church grow further apart persecution will increase. Our stance on abortion, homosexuality, pornography and morality will be the sparks that ignites this persecution. First it will begin from individuals, such as the gay groups, then State governments and leaders, then finally National Leaders and our own US government. They will put pressure on us to conform to these “rights” and morals by removing our tax status at first. After we do not succumb to this pressure then we can only imagine what happens from there. Looking at history it will be a period of testing the faith of every Latter Day Saint. Only those with a strong testimony will be able to stay the course.

Col. Flagg,
From what I have seen and heard, I don't doubt it. People that are privledged (or cursed) with the clearance and exposure to the technological capabilities of mankind come away with a profound respect for it.
Satan's power is limited to these things and he has full power therein (though it is all smoke and mirrors). Expect even (some of ) the very elect to be deceived in every way.

You might have a point. It is my understanding that at places like Area 51 in the Nevada desert, they have technology there that is anywhere from 20-30 years more advanced than what society currently has. I wonder how many people actually know that the internet was actually in use back in the late '60's? The technology was actually developed for the military as a means to communicate without information being compromised or intercepted. It took about 25 years before that technology hit society. Chances are, we've got technology now in existence that society won't see or use until at least 2030. However, having said that, I still doubt this 'blue beam' project, if undertaken, would be successful in duping people around the world.

The chances of a solar flare causing a complete collapse of satellite technology or technology in general is very small, especially considering how the sun has decided to go into hibernation and not produce anymore sunspots right now. This is one of the reasons why we're seeing extreme cold problems on the earth too... nothing affects the earth's climate and weather more than the sun. It wouldn't surprise me if Al Gore didn't even know what a sunspot was.

I thought this was an insightful analysis. Maybe even worthy of some debate. And yet, no debate has occurred. Is it because this reasoning is so true that it is universally accepted on this thread? Just curious.
