Russian military a 'paper tiger' despite symbolic comeback, says IISS
Russia may be flexing its military muscle once again, sending warships into international waters and dispatching long-range bombers on reconnaissance trips, but the former superpower remains a paper tiger, according to a respected London think-tank.
Mark... this is one of your threads... what say ye to this?

Mark left the building so I'll do my best impression.
When Russia attacks the USA you won't think of them as a paper tiger. Only a drunkard would believe they aren't for real. Hows that? I 2nd Mark too.

You're a pretty good ventriliquist (sp?) shadow. I don't know... there's evidence to indicate they're back and evidence to indicate they're still years away from becoming a real threat again. I remember watching a PBS documentary a few years ago on how the U.S. and Russia came within 2 minutes of nuclear war in 1995 because the Russians had mistaken a U.S. weather satellite launch for a nuclear missile. The program then went on to report how antiquated and out-dated Russia's technology and military capabilities were because of lack of funding to upgrade equipment and all. If that was true, it's been 14 years since that day when Yeltsin almost pushed the Russian red button... could they have totally done a 180 in 14 years technologically and militarily?

Joel Skousen says they have a high amount of officers and that they could fill the ranks any second. Technological wise, America far exceeds anybody else on the planet. But because of the high cost of these weapons, we only have maybe 2 weeks of bombs then we are out.
Russia is not a paper tiger. They are #2 or #3 when it comes to Military, China may have surpassed them, we'll see.

I'll bet Putin has put everything into military equipment that he possibly can. The Russians seem pretty confident right now so I would not assume that they are a paper tiger.

Yep, sounds like Joel knows what he is talking about.
The tanks used in Georgia are second rate old pieces of you know what. They have far superior equipment than this. Their jets are much better than they used to be, but they are not showing it.
Their troops are extremely tough from tough living. They have tough training and require less supplies. They are in good shape and a hard people. Russia is no paper tiger and would trample over the common lazy American if they could get troops over here. Hate to say it. Technology is our only ally and I am afraid the world is catching up. This is not 2nd world war Russia.

Don't think for 2 seconds that Russia doesn't have Nuclear subs prowling around on both coasts. Putin has it in high gear.
Our Prowlers and P3's are busy busy busy. I just talked to an old student of mine who is in the Navy. He can't say much other than they are busy, busy, busy. No end in sight either.

This reminds me of an episode of my favorite TV show from the mid to late 1980's called 'Airwolf'. In one of the 4th season eps, the new cast goes over to Russia to help out with a nuclear power plant that is on the verge of meltdown (obviously an ep related to what happened at Chernobyl). Anyway, there's a scene where Maj. Rivers ends up flying a Russian Mig and he begins to complain about how hard the seats are in the Russian fighter and the Russian pilot replies 'you Americans are too soft'. So true.

Yeah, that's what they WANT us to think. They've been building up secretly yet crying boo hoo to the media that they are rusty 1970's relics.
