Re: MOVEMENT TO DEFUND POLICE
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
That, folks, is the ultimate in personal responsibility: being responsible for your own safety and that of your family and your neighbors. It's not that we don't need police, but when the police are not available for ANY reason, our security becomes our own responsibility.
Be prepared and be careful.

Brooklyn Sociology Professor Alex Vitale Is doing some
good work around policing.
The End of Policing Hardcover –
by Alex S. Vitale (Author)
How the police endanger us and why we need to find an alternative
Recent years have seen an explosion of protest against police brutality and repression—most dramatically in Ferguson, Missouri, where longheld grievances erupted in violent demonstrations following the police killing of Michael Brown. Among activists, journalists, and politicians, the conversation about how to respond and improve policing has focused on accountability, diversity, training, and community relations. Unfortunately, these reforms will not produce results, either alone or in combination. The core of the problem must be addressed: the nature of modern policing itself. “Broken windows” practices, the militarization of law enforcement, and the dramatic expansion of the police’s role over the last forty years have created a mandate for officers that must be rolled back.
This book attempts to spark public discussion by revealing the tainted origins of modern policing as a tool of social control. It shows how the expansion of police authority is inconsistent with community empowerment, social justice—even public safety. Drawing on groundbreaking research from across the world, and covering virtually every area in the increasingly broad range of police work, Alex Vitale demonstrates how law enforcement has come to exacerbate the very problems it is supposed to solve.

The Plot to Kill Martin Luther King Jr
Author
attorney William Pepper
King Was Still Alive
In one of the shocking bits of information revealed in his 2017 book, Pepper says King actually survived the shot and was still alive when he arrived at St. Joseph’s Hospital and that he was killed by a doctor.
The hospital story was told to Pepper by a man names Johnton Shelby, whose mother, Lula Mae Shelby, had been a surgical aide at St. Joseph’s that night. Shelby told Pepper the story of how his mother came home the morning after the shooting and shared this story with the family:
She described Chief of surgery Dr. Breen Bland entering the emergency room with two men in suits. Seeing doctors working on King, Bland commanded, “Stop working on the [N-word] and let him die! Now all of you get out of here, right now. Everybody get out.”
Johnton Shelby says his mother described hearing the sound of the three men sucking up saliva into their mouths and then spitting. Lula Mae said she looked back over her shoulder as she was leaving the room and saw that the breathing tube had been removed from King and that Bland was holding a pillow over his head.
Ron Adkins helped confirm this story. Ron, who was 16 at the time of the murder, remembered hearing Breen Bland say to his father, “If he’s not killed by the shot, just make sure he gets to St. Joseph Hospital, and we’ll make sure he doesn’t leave

Re: MOVEMENT TO DEFUND POLICE
Defend Black Lives - Defund Police Terror!
You don't need this newsletter to tell you about the massive outpouring of Black-led outrage, grieving and resistance in response to the racist police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, against the backdrop of the terrible racist disparities in infections and deaths from COVID-19. Starting in Minneapolis and spreading swiftly to Los Angeles -- ground zero for racist police killings with impunity in the US despite decades of so-called reforms -- people took to the streets in disruptive and angry protests, and were met with renewed brutality and repression, teargas, rubber bullets and mass arrests. Over 3000 arrests for failure to disperse and curfew violations were made by the LAPD alone, not even counting separate arrests by the LA Sheriffs Dept and local cops in Santa Monica, Long Beach and elsewhere.
Some people were apparently more concerned about so-called "vandalism" and property destruction than about the taking of lives by the police. Civil unrest on this order of magnitude, particularly when met with provocative state violence as the peaceful protests have been, almost always results in some "vandalism" and "looting" (a racially charged word -- remember the differences in how Black and white people expropriating what they needed in New Orleans after Katrina were treated and referred to).
But polls show that 54% of the US public believes that the burning down of the Minneapolis police precinct was a valid response to the situation. Property destruction is not the same as state violence; whereas property protection is always undergirded by state violence. People who vandalized or even burned police cars, the people who painted George Floyd's face and Black Lives Matter slogans on the statue of Robert E. Lee in Richmond VA, are heroic and exemplary to my way of thinking; their actions are righteous. Same goes for the people who lobbed tear gas cannisters back at the police. Did you see the gif of the Somali woman in a hijab doing exactly that in Minneapolis? Inspiring.
Here's a map of how widespread the protests have been and are continuing to be.
https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/graph ... 310149002/
The map above also highlights in orange (appropriately) the 23 states where the National Guard has been called out.
But this has proven to be a problem in itself for the rulers - in Los Angeles, Guard troops took a knee with protesters in Hollywood when they were supposed to blocking further passage, and the marchers moved on to continue protesting.
The most significant aspect is that these massive, multi-racial, international, diverse, militant demonstrations have been Black-led, with millions of people moved to conscious anti-racist action and rejection of institutionalized and internalized racism and anti-Blackness. LA's liberal political establishment, cop-lovers all, has totally exposed itself in this moment. Thousand of people turned out to the #JackieLaceyMustGo vigil, back live at the Hall of Injustice, 211 W, Temple St, corner Spring, after 2 months in Instagram Live. Demand that members of the county Board of Supervisors rescind their endorsement of Lacey for re-election in November (she was denied election in the March primary and forced into a run-off in the fall through concerted opposition by families of people killed by law enforcement with impunity in LA County under her tenure as DA). And watch this expose of Mayor Garcetti and Chief of Police Moore-of-the-same:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dymj5To ... gs=pl%2Cwn
70,000 people watched a livestream on YouTube offered by KTLA of the first Police Commission (#LAPCFails) since the uprising, as hundreds of people spoke out to #FirePoliceChiefMoore and to #DefundThePolice. In response, Garcetti proposed to cut about $100 million from the LAPD budget to transfer to unspecified community programs in the Black community.
Here's my letter in response as printed in the LA Times:
https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2 ... t-protests
To the editor: Imagine how large the LAPD’s budget is if it can cut out $100 million without making too much of a dent. That’s only about 5% of its $1.86-billion 54% share of the city budget. (And the LAPD get other money besides, in federal grants, civil forfeitures, and from its contract with Metro to police the trains.)
The city’s offer of cuts should meet police abolitionists halfway on defunding the LAPD, still one of the deadliest police departments in the U.S. For starters, chop the budget in half (that would still be almost $1 billion wasted on policing).
Start cutting at the top — Chief Michel Moore must go. Sell the damaged police vehicles for scrap and don’t replace them. Shut down the predatory policing programs that criminalize poor black people for who they are.
Deal with social and economic problems such as homelessness with social workers and housing, not cops. Get police out of the schools and off the buses and trains, and put money into a reeducation program that finds them some meaningful and socially useful work to do. Fund community peacemakers.

RACIAL DISPARITIES IN COVID EXPOSE INSTITUTIONAL RACISM
Resistance to racist police murders with impunity is inextricable from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate impact on Black, Brown and indigenous people. Even apart from the threat of police violence and the use of National Guard and even US military forces against them, protesters understood they were risking infection and death by going out into the street and close-quarters public demonstrations. Medical professional underlined that police use of teargas, which was widespread, increased the risk or infection and "super-spreader" events dramatically.
https://www.colorlines.com/articles/how ... est-racism
EXCERPT: A small community of volunteers, currently led by The Atlantic staff writer Alexis Madrigal, launched The COVID Tracking Project in an effort to aggregate and make sense of numerous and confusing data sources. It then partnered with the Antiracist Center to found The COVID Racial Data Tracker. “This outbreak will not affect everyone equally,” says Madrigal. “It is moving through [US] institutional structures and socioeconomic realities. The COVID Racial Data Tracker is really to track racism, not to track race.”
Indeed, predominately Black counties have experienced three times the infection rate and six times the deaths as predominately White counties during the virus’s initial wave, which hit big cities hard. In L.A., for example, Latinx people made up 44% of the population, but 65% of the deaths.
Many states are not reporting infections among Native Americans—whose history already includes being ravaged by infections, such as smallpox and tuberculosis, carried by Europeans. But what we do know looks grim. Though Native Americans make up just 6% of Arizona’s population, they account for 16% of the state’s deaths. In New Mexico, they comprise 11% of the population, but 31% of deaths.
[But though communities of color are facing greater impact, testing resources have gone elsewhere.] In mid-April, an analysis by the New York Post found that 3.8 out of every 100 residents of Staten Island had been tested, as compared to only 2.9 per 100 in the Bronx and 2.5 per 100 in Queens. Staten Island is 75% white; the Bronx and Queens consist primarily of people of color. 22 of the 30 ZIP codes where the greatest numbers of COVID tests were conducted were either Whiter or wealthier than the city as a whole.

The Murder of George Floyd: The Longest Running Play in America
Submitted by editor on 01 June 2020 - 01:40pm
“The great evil of American slavery was not involuntary servitude, but rather the narrative of racial differences we created to legitimize slavery. Because we never dealt with that evil, I don't think slavery ended in 1865, it just evolved.” - Bryan Stevenson
Think of Derek Chauvin’s knee. The weight of it. The sadistic centuries-deep applied weight of it. Its brutality. Its power. Its ball-bearing-like, skull-like, stone-like shape. How the knee’s deadly utility must have given him such pleasure. How George Floyd’s pleas for life must have sharpened that pleasure. (Why else would he have crushed George’s life so slowly?) How this knee was his, personally, but also the blunt instrument of history, how it did the work his meaty hands could have done - strangling George Floyd. But to strangle George Floyd with his hands, he would have had to look him in the face. See his human face. The knee was a brutal coward’s knee.
What was Derek Chauvin thinking? Or in what part of his brain was he thinking? What reptilian brainstem part? Was he thinking in the same part as was the white sailor on a slave ship who chained Africans in the hold and refused them water as they died? Or the slave breaker, Edward Cove, who savagely beat the teenage Frederick Douglass for demanding the dignity of manhood? Or the grinning white Klan members as they hauled another struggling black man into a poplar tree by his neck, then lit a fire under him, then posed for photos? Was he thinking in the same part as were the mounted police in Selma while charging the peaceful Civil Rights marchers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge? Or the killers of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, Laquan McDonald, Erik Garner, Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Ahmaud Aubery, etc., etc., etc., etc.
Which is to say Derek Chauvin was not thinking at all. His knee was not thinking. Derek and his knee were playing their part in the same morality play being performed in America for 400 years. He knew his part in the longest running play in our history. No new lines to memorize. Every other day the curtain goes up on this play, staged in another city or town. The line of cops waiting to audition for leading roles stretches like a blue rope around the neck of this country. But who buys the tickets? Who fills the theater? Whose will is being asserted in this tedious, blood-curdling, repetitious, racist drama? What all those white supremacists in our family tree - from Jefferson, Madison and Washington to Donald J. Trump - fail to see is that any greatness in this country belongs to the people of color who have demanded that America live up to its own ideals: Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, John Brown (not Black, but might as well have been), W.E.B. Du Bois, Paul Robeson, Fannie Lou Hamer, Bob Moses, Claudette Colvin, Rosa Parks, Ella Baker, James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, John Lewis, Malcolm X, Rev. King, Muhammad Ali, Langston Hughes, Charles Hamilton Houston, Rev. Wiliam Barber. Michelle Alexander, Bryan Stevenson - to name a few. What Derek Chauvin’s knee has failed to learn is that those people not only strove to save the humanity of people of color but the humanity white people, too. Or is that what his knee knows and resents so profoundly?
I, for one, am sick of this play. I want the theater shut down. bulldozed, buried. I’m sick of analyzing the persistence of racism in America. The simple fact of it has eaten my soul. I want every gratuitous murder of a black person answered with a life sentence for the killer. How can we defend the rule of law when the law is a racist murderer? How can we defend democracy when our democracy is a corporate plutocracy holding a noose? It’s not that I can’t breathe. It’s that I’m ashamed to breathe the racist air.
And what was George Floyd thinking? In his fear and pain and suffocation, he may not have been able to think at all. But if he was, it may have been the clarity of one thought that had haunted him for 46 years: finally American racism, like a drone missile, had found him.

Re: MOVEMENT TO DEFUND POLICE
I don't know if anyone here has yet pointed this out but the efforts of the DC Mayor and the left to dismiss the national guard stationed near the whitehouse reeks of coup.
Imagine how the media would spin a coordinated insurgency to remove Donald Trump. Imagine all the smug leftists who would spin this as a harsh lesson in racism despite the fact that Trump has done way more in the positive for the black community than Obama who was waaay in the negative as far as inciting folks to racism.

Coming on like Gang Busters
J. Edgar Hoover's FBI and the Battle to Control Radio Portrayals of the Bureau, 1936–1958
Matthew Cecil
Abstract
From 1935 to 1958, J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI battled with producers of radio shows such as Gang Busters and The FBI in Peace and War, objecting to portrayals of the Bureau. FBI officials believed that those and certain other programs undermined the Bureau's authority and legitimacy through story lines emphasizing sensational violence and the thrill of the chase rather than staid logic and scientific detection. Eventually the FBI created and promoted its own radio crime drama in an effort to control its public image, valorize its authority and justify its ongoing cultural and jurisdictional growth. The details of the FBI's efforts to control its image, as revealed by its own meticulously maintained files, offer a cautionary tale of how a government agency, particularly a law enforcement agency, carries an outsized ability to influence news and entertainment portrayals of its work.

Jackals, Vultures, Scavengers, and Scoundrels
FBI Public Relations and J. Edgar Hoover's Handwritten “Blue Gems”
Matthew Cecil, Jessica Freeman & Jennifer Tiernan
Pages 2-11 | Published online: 19 Mar 2019
Abstract
Any study of FBI public relations is incomplete without a review of Director J. Edgar Hoover's handwritten comments on memoranda, known within the Bureau as “blue gems.” The director ruled the FBI's strictly hierarchical bureaucracy largely through those comments on documents that crossed his desk and then flowed back the bureaucracy carrying his orders. For this study, more than five hundred of Hoover's blue gems on topics related to public relations were reviewed and sorted into categories based on the work of organizational communication scholars Daniel Katz and Robert L. Kahn. Hoover's blue gems provide a window into his minute-to-minute thought process. They are a record of the director's efforts to influence policy on public relations and of his managers' efforts to adhere to Hoover's ideological statements, explanatory notes, and task-specific directives.

FBI sued in wrongful death lawsuit from 2017 Aztec High School shooting
Farmington Daily Times Published 2:35 p.m. MT June 12, 2020

They are a record of the director's efforts to influence policy on public relations and of his managers' efforts to adhere to Hoover's ideological statements, explanatory notes, and task-specific directives.

when you think of the FBI do you think of a federal law enforcement agency? Or do you think of a secretive domestic intelligence agency that has for over a century continuously spied on dissent?
We invite you to join DRAD Policy Director Chip Gibbons as he hosts our new Still Spying Podcast, which explores the FBI’s continuing First Amendment abuse. In addition to being our policy director, Chip is a noted FBI expert, journalist, and commentator. His writings on the FBI have appeared in The Intercept, Washington Post, and The Nation.
Our podcast builds on our groundbreaking report titled Still Spying on Dissent: The Enduring Problem of FBI First Amendment Abuse, which documented a century of FBI spying and contextualized it in the larger history of the Bureau.
In this new limited series podcast, Chip will be joined in conversation by experts and activists and will explore everything from the failure to reform the FBI, the FBI’s own war on Black dissent, the FBI’s dual role as both law enforcement and intelligence, and how the issue of political surveillance fits into larger discussions about policing.
Our debut episode, “Legacy of Abuse: From The Palmer Raids to Black Identity Extremism,” is available now and features a conversation with Mike German, retired FBI agent, a fellow in the Brennan Center for Justice's Liberty and National Security program, and the author of Disrupt, Discredit, and Divide: How the New FBI Damages Democracy.

The Politics of Contraband (from Gangster Planet)
By Daniel Hopsicker -
June 17, 2020
On June 17, 2019, a massive 20-ton cocaine bust went down at the port of Philadelphia aboard a container ship calling at the port. Today is the one-year anniversary of that drug bust, the second largest in American history, and one of five covered in “Gangster Planet.”
Agents from a multi-agency Federal task force swarmed aboard a two block-long container ship called the MSC GAYANE, the second largest in the world.
The official story of the massive drug seizure—which is simple, but wrong—has the task force stumble onto a massive drug shipment on the container ship as it entered the port of Philadelphia.
However, the story contains more anomalies than a YouTube video about Area 51. Even worse is that everything about the ‘Big Big Blow Bust’ remains highly classified

SEPTEMBER 16, 2020
After vowing to abolish police, Minneapolis City Council demands to know 'Where are the police?' as violence plagues the city
What the anti-cop movement brings
After the tragic death of George Floyd rocked the nation, the Minneapolis City Council — which is composed of nearly all Democrats — took the lead in the anti-police movement, voting to defund the city's police department. The council sought to replace traditional law enforcement with newer community-based, alternative forms of policing.
But as violent crime has plagued the city for months, the city council is now asking: "Where are the police?"
As TheBlaze reported, the Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution in June to replace the city's police department with an alternative "community safety" model.
The development came days after the council promised anti-police residents that they would completely dismantle the city's policing system.
During a two-hour meeting with Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo this week, the Democratic city council, in brazen fashion, demanded to know why city police are not responding to the violence with enhanced law enforcement measures.
From Minnesota Public Radio:
The number of reported violent crimes, like assaults, robberies and homicides are up compared to 2019, according to MPD crime data. More people have been killed in the city in the first nine months of 2020 than were slain in all of last year. Property crimes, like burglaries and auto thefts, are also up. Incidents of arson have increased 55 percent over the total at this point in 2019.
"Residents are asking, 'Where are the police?'" Councilman Jamal Osman said, MPR reported. "That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen."
Council President Lisa Bender, one of the loudest anti-police voices just months ago, claimed police are being "defiant," according to MPR.
"This is not new," she claimed.
Meanwhile, Phillipe Cunningham chided his colleagues for looking to the police for solutions when they called for the department's abolition just a few months ago.
"What I am sort of flabbergasted by right now is colleagues, who a very short time ago were calling for abolition, are now suggesting we should be putting more resources and funding into MPD," Cunningham said.
Arradondo told the council that he actually has taken measures to combat the spike in crime.
Arradondo explained that more officers have been added to patrols, additional resources have been allocated for investigative duties, and he has reiterated the seriousness of the crime issue with top department brass.
However, the department is also hemorrhaging personnel, Arradondo explained. In fact, more than 100 officers have left the department this year alone, more than double the usual number. With fewer officers, law enforcement becomes much more difficult.
As TheBlaze reported, momentum driving the push to disband the Minneapolis police department has dissipated because, as the Minneapolis City Council has learned, highly emotional rhetoric does not translate into functional policy.
"I think when you take a statement and then move into policy work, it gets more complicated," Bender told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Useless FDA and CDC admit Covid antibody tests are worthless. Why have they approved them? Why are we paying for them?
I have been meaning to update the information on Covid-19 testing, since it has been such a confusing subject. This post will only cover antibody (aka serology) tests. And most of the post will be direct quotes from the FDA and CDC websites, because you would probably not believe me if I simply paraphrased the information. So here is my synthesis, followed by direct quotes from the agencies.
Boiled down, what FDA and CDC say is:
1. The presence of antibodies does not mean you have had Covid.
2. The test might be positive due to a cross reaction with antibodies from a cold you had.
3. Even if you have antibodies and did have Covid, they don't tell us whether or not you are immune.
4. Even if you are immune today, you may not be immune tomorrow--who knows?
5. You may have had Covid and have no antibodies
6. Antibody tests are meaningless for individuals, but might give us useful information at the population level.
7. Regardless of the result, you still need to wear masks and socially distance.
8. In a population where less than 5% have had Covid, over 50% of positive results will be false positives.
Yet CDC admits that reinfection is rare. There are only 3 documented cases of reinfection in the US, so there must be good immunity after infection for most people.
Bottom line: why are we doing these tests? Why hasn't FDA rescinded its emergency approval, since in the majority of the US, most positive results are false positives? And why don't we have better tests? T-cell immunity is probably more accurate, but there are no commercially available T-cell tests for the public. Why are we still measuring antibodies that cross-react with those for the common cold? Is this another way the federal government is keeping us confused and locked down?
Here are the direct quotes:
FDA:
"...COVID-19 antibody tests can help identify people who may have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus or have recovered from the COVID-19 infection."
At this time, researchers do not know whether the presence of antibodies means that you are immune to the coronavirus in the future; or if you are immune, how long it will last."
CDC:
"...additional data are needed before modifying public health recommendations based on serologic [antibody] test results, including decisions on discontinuing physical distancing and using personal protective equipment.
...Although serologic tests should not be used at this time to determine if an individual is immune, these tests can help determine the proportion of a population previously infected with SARS-CoV-2
...Recurrence of COVID-19 illness appears to be very uncommon
...However, it remains uncertain to what degree and for how long individuals with antibodies (neutralizing or total) are protected against reinfection with SARS-CoV-2
...FDA now requires commercially marketed serologic tests to receive Emergency Use Authorization (EUA)external icon
...in a population where the prevalence is 5%, a test with 90% sensitivity and 95% specificity will yield a positive predictive value of 49%. In other words, less than half of those testing positive will truly have antibodies.
...pending additional data, the presence of antibodies cannot be equated with an individual’s immunity from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
...Some tests may exhibit cross-reactivity with other coronaviruses, such as those that cause the common cold. This could result in false-positive test results. Some persons may not develop detectable antibodies after coronavirus infection.
...Serologic testing by itself should not be used to establish the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2 infection or reinfection."

The recent arrest of an Oklahoma City police officer for sexually assaulting seven women while on duty between February and June of 2014 dramatized the continuing problem on-duty sexual abuses by police officers. West African Money pox is supposed to be what the current western Moneypox came from.
So much for the scary death rates. Ignore mortality rates of 1%, 10% and all the other numbers plucked from thin air. From Stat:
Pressed yesterday, a WHO official said she didn’t think the outbreak outside Africa would lead to a pandemic, Reuters reported. "We don't know but we don't think so," Rosamund Lewis said. "At the moment, we are not concerned of a global pandemic." The WHO said that 23 countries have reported 257 confirmed cases and roughly 120 suspected cases — a rapid accumulation in an unprecedented outbreak first detected earlier this month. Monkeypox is considered endemic in roughly 12 countries in West and Central Africa.
Nigeria, population 206 million, has experienced a money pox outbreak since 2017. Nigeria reported the first death this year from money pox yesterday, the Associated Press says.
