Something else to consider storing for early to mid-term bartering before the electricity is switched off. Probably even worthwhile having plenty to use with your generator.

"The voluntary ban - part of a Government campaign to force people into buying low energy fluorescent bulbs..."

I like the use of "voluntary" and "force" in the same sentence!

The thing about fluorescent lights is they emit a somewhat disruptive energy, much like a CRT, computer, etc. For those interested, read about William Reich and his research into orgone. However, incandescent lights are just so troublesome, as I have to replace them every 3-8 months. They never seem to last.

How about LED lights. What are the horrific consequences of using them?

Or

Will they be the rescue lighting, for no radiation and low power need?

I have had worse problems with those stipid fluorescent lights. I think that they are not supposed to be used with the dimmer in my family roof.

LED is the best thing out there. My emergency lights are crank-powered LED flashlights. I'm thinking of buying some solar powered LED flood lights.
