I can't believe he just compared this to flu. He might deeply regret that statement a year from now. Then again, I might regret writing this comment a year from now.
So far, this is pure downplay.
Why does Mike Pence remind me so much of President Bush (the 2nd)?

I'm actually kind of impressed with Trump-this is a good political move putting his VP in charge of this. If things go well, he gets all the credit. If things go poorly, Pence is the fall guy.
Yeah bad comparison to the flu . . .but my guess is this is going to go up. But Alex Azar is a tool.

Currently (using bogus numbers being reported) 20% of infected have serious complications, and only 9% of those die.
1000 infected * .20 = 200 serious complications * .09 = 18 deaths
18 / 1000 = 1.8 percent kill rate
Very similar to Flu numbers.
Hmmmmm, now if we only had numbers that we thought were accurate.

We must be looking at something different.
Based on what I've seen, that's not the flu rate.
According to the CDC, the flu mortality rate is around 0.13% since 2010.
Some seasons it's higher, some seasons it's lower.
1.8 is 14x the average flu mortality rate.
Based on that, this is way more deadly than the flu.

Spanish Flu was 1.7
for treated individuals range from 1 percent to 15 percent for bubonic plague
40 percent for septicemic plague
" It is estimated that 0.001 percent to 0.007 percent of the world’s population died of respiratory complications associated with (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first 12 months the virus circulated."
I guess I was looking at the bad stuff, and you were talking overall mild stuff. If this is Weaponized 1.8 would be a low number.
