I guess BYU is hoping those students who marry into gay marriages will report themselves?

Why would homosexuals report themselves?
(From the link) “They'll also no longer accept tips from other students or ecclesiastical leaders about "homosexual behavior" on campus, Kitchen said -- it'll all be self-reported.
The office used to investigate violations of its code -- including "homosexual behavior" -- using tips from students, faculty and local church leaders. They'd interview witnesses and place students on probation or expel them, in some cases.
Now, Kitchen said, same-sex student couples can "date for fun or companionship," but if it's with the goal of marrying, they can report themselves to the Honor Code Office -- because that would mean they're breaking church doctrine, which forbids same-sex marriage.
"I like to call it the rainbow stained-glass ceiling," he said. "That's a ceiling no one can cross."”

It would be laughable, if it wasn't so tragic.
But wait --- I read on another forum that BYU was in violation of a relatively new NCAA rule about inclusion in athletics. There can be no unequal treatment of any protected class -- meaning if straight couples can date and smooch, then LGBT couples must be allowed to also.
I'm so thrilled we haven't folded on our other standards. Still no lattes on the way to early-morning classes, and no facial hair, because we know that's not Christlike. /sarc/

Um, did you notice that Nathan Kitchen is not a spokesperson for BYU? Just some guy with an opinion. But, no longer tattling on each other seems like an improvement.
Why would anyone report themselves? Confession as part of repentance?

The new rules state that Bishop and Stake Presidents may not report infractions to the Honor Code Office. So they can work on repentance with their Bishop and keep the HCO in the dark.
I think this is fine, IF they are actually repenting and forsaking their latte or beer or whatever.

Nathan Kitchen is the President of Affirmation, and gave a presentation to BYU last fall on what the university could do to help the LGBTQ students. Last Friday he spoke at length with the Honor Code Director -- the top man in charge of the HCO -- and clarified the new rules. Mr Kitchen said that he was told there is a document prepared spelling everything out, but that HCO is waiting for the go-ahead from Pres Worthen and the Board of Trustees.

Interesting about a new rule. Do you happen to know where I can find this rule about bishops and stake presidents? I know they still have to choose whether to endorse a student each year for that student to register for classes.

I have read the rule about Bishops no longer reporting in at least two different places, one of them being Kitchen's report to Mormons Building Bridges, but the Honor Code Office has yet to put any details in writing that I can find. Perhaps (just a wild guess) there is some disagreement among the members of the Board of Trustees, and we know they say they are always in agreement.
