I decided a long time ago that I would sustain the Prophet and the Apostles and accept any new changes (inspiration or revelation) in Church policy that were instituted during the current Prophet's time as President of the Church. I'm not saying it has always been easy for me, but it has been simpler. I have a testimony that the Lord knows what is going on and is in charge of His Church, and I will follow him and accept these new changes as inspiration and revelation.

I have no problem with this because the ban on gay marriage remains and the requirement for chastity remains. So, while gay BYU students can kiss and hold hands, they cannot engage in sexual activity on campus, just as unmarried normal couples cannot.
I suspect this move was done to avoid having to wrangle over these issues in court. Being able to dance at BYU dances and to kiss and hold hands on campus are one thing, but being able to get sealed in the temple and to engage in sexual activity on campus are quite another. Lawsuits aimed at forcing the Church to allow gay temple sealings would likely get nowhere, even with some liberal judges. Ditto for lawsuits over not being able to engage in same-gender sex on campus, since the same rule applies to unmarried normal couples.

Exactly the thing Brigham Young warned of and feared the most.

Think about it this way: This makes BYU more attractive to people who have been misled by same-sex attraction. When gay students attend BYU, they are exposed to correct principles, gospel teaching, and good examples. They are in an environment where the Spirit is much more likely to be present. IOW, there is a better chance that they will see the error of their ways at BYU than at some secular college where their unnatural attraction is celebrated and encouraged.
Plus, we should keep in mind that gays amount to no more than 10% of the population, and probably about half that figure. So we're only talking about a small group of students, a small percentage of the BYU student body.

That's the same video produced by a professor at BYU. This is still only his opinion, and not an authoritative statement by President Worthen or the FP/Q12.
I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities are trying to work out how to allow BYU students homosexual dating activity (dancing, kissing, et al) without having to approve it church wide.
Not long ago I predicted that we would see gay couples in our chapels holding hands or giving each other a wee kiss, and we would not be allowed to ask them to refrain. That day is just about here. It's already here in some wards.
This. Is. Apostasy. This is NOT showing Christlike love to people who suffer, but it is allowing sin and celebrating sin.
We have been warned, and we've closed our ears and shut our eyes while the sodomites parade their depravity in our sacred buildings and in front of our innocent children.

Yeah, well we've thrown Brigham completely under the bus as a people...
Funnily enough, he was right about Adam-God, about Blood Atonement, about polygamy, and about pretty much everything else, but they're all cans of worms in themselves... needless to say, I don't see us accepting his warnings about our apostasy any time soon. He tried to teach us what Joseph taught him and his name has been ruined, by us!

What I find so interesting/infuriating is that the church appears to be letting slide a basic, core fundamental doctrine (eternal families and eternal progression) while dogmatically holding onto something that was given "not by commandment or constraint". How have we become so backward that drinking coffee and tea is terrible, but gay kissing and anything up to but not including sexual intercourse is okay?
This hasn't shaken my testimony at all. I believe there is much more going on here than we really know and I suspect the Prophet and the Apostles have the larger understanding and view of what the end results will be, but for the common, every day TBM that is striving to conform their lives to what Christ wants and expects, stuff like this can be quite confusing.

I thought Brigham Young was worried about the exact opposite, that members would criticize and not sustain prophets and kick themselves out of the church and go to hell. I'm pretty sure that was his ultimate concern.

What a pity it would be it we were lead by one man to utter destruction! Are you afraid of this? I am more afraid that this people have so much confidence in their leaders that they will not inquire for themselves of God whether they are lead by him. I am fearful they settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purpose of God in their salvation, and weaken that influence they could give to their leaders did they know for themselves by the revelations of Jesus that they are led in the right way. Let every man and woman know, by the whispering of the Spirit of God to themselves whether their leaders are walking in the path the lord dictates or not. This has been my exhortation continually.

This attitude/belief is what will cause the Church to accept gay marriage. At some point the number of gay members, the allies of gay members, and the members who will accept anything the FP says will be over 50% and gay marriage will enshrined in the policies of the LDS Church. Tolerating evil is evil itself, no matter how good the company you're keeping.

The institution is no longer worthy of using Brigham Young's name.
The least they could do is change the name of the place.
BTW my last name is Young and I have no Utah connections. I'm South Jersey since 1690.
I regret sending my oldest RM son to that place. He now does not even accept their is a God and claims my family is obsessed with an odd minority religion.
Oh how I resent that place!!!!!

Our meetings are welcome to all, Jesus admonished this to the leaders in 3rd nephi, even sinners. Children are exposed to this in the world and we teach them correct principles, and we do that at church too, when ward members are doing something we feel is wrong. I don't see that there is cause to throw someone out or confront them. Best to tell bishop and let him worry about it., if that happens.

Sirius,
I hope Brigham Young would be OK with me in this case because I do believe that President Nelson is a Prophet of God and is being led and directed to do the Lord's will. I'm not blindly following him. I have inquired for myself and have gained a testimony that he is a Prophet and is not leading the Church astray. This is a test, and I've said before that I'm staying in the boat.

If BYU allows this then we, as a Church, are no longer teaching correct principles. Are we supposed to embrace every perversion that our children are exposed to? And homosexuality is one of the greatest perversions!!

Should the church accept homosexuality, it’ll be added to the same long list as Adam god theory and blood atonement:
Doctrines unsupported or even contradicted by scripture that the church has embraced.
This stuff has been happening since the very beginning.

That's the most insane thing that members inside the Church can't see. In today's modern world, nobody is going to believe that the Church just happened to now have a revelation that homosexuals can date, etc.
Prophets should lead not follow the world. At least with blood atonement and polygamy they were going vastly against the grain of the world at that time. Today, we just follow the world and then get to claim following the world is really following the prophet and thereby following God. It's completely stupid.
I thought we would see women get the Priesthood first then homosexuality, but maybe it will be the opposite . . .just to prove to us how egotistical we really are.
Yes God who for thousands of years condemned homosexuality and there has never been a recorded scripture where anything like unto it has been approved, now suddenly through modern "prophets" has now approved homosexual behavior . . . give me a break.
You know I do hate to say it, b/c I'd rather it not be the case, but those prophets who allow people to indulge in homosexual behavior, they are false prophets. That's the only way to square it up. Anything else leads to mental gymnastics that I'm not willing to even start to try to justify.

I was hoping this was written in sarcasm, but somehow I dont think you wrote it as such.
My sister in law and a few other people I know were actually anti'd while attending BYU and lost their testimony entirely. The homosexuals have a tendency to be part of the undercurrent and engage in other activities that often include drugs as well. I cant think of a worse example of our values than BYU for any young person to pay heed to.

Furthermore, the fact that plural marriage, Adam-God, blood atonement, the united order, blacks and the curse of Cain, etc were/are hated and mocked so much by the world is very strong evidence that they are true principles from God.
