China reports new Coronavirus cases complying with WHO standards resulting in single day increase 3x larger than any

Now, it is important to note that the huge increase in todays numbers are due to underreporting in the past several days.
China has been saying that if a person tested positive for coronavirus, but had no symptoms they were NOT a confirmed case.
After several days of reporting based on this standard, they have decided it is better to conform to the WHO standard, so today's numbers are very big - but again, it is important to understand that todays massive increase is due to all of the previous unconfirmed cases all being added to today's numbers.
I know there are already several threads on this. I felt like this was a big development that needed it's own thread.

What is absolutely terrifying about the chart above is that, of the 242 new deaths, more than double the previous day's total, is that according to the Hubei government, 135 are from the new "clinically diagnosed" category. This means that for weeks China was likely assigning coronavirus deaths to pneumonia (as we warned it was doing on Jan 25 in "This Is How China Is Hiding The True Number Of Coronavirus Deaths"), which also means that the real number of Coronavirus deaths is likely in the thousands.

The crap is getting real over there . . .
They are shooting people; video posted 8 days ago show Chinese police officers in hazmat gear taking out pistols, and rifles. No videos of them actually shooting people, but you can hear the gunshots and see a few dead bodies with blood running in the gutters . . .
Pray to God we escape the worst of it.

While reading today's news on this virus, it looks like the leaders of the organizations, like WHO, are ignoring that it this sudden jump in numbers is a result of a previous change that took place when certain areas in China stopped counting asymptomatic cases as cases, even if confirmed. That really happened right? China really did stop counting those, and then cases decreased, and then they started counting asymptomatic cases again, and then cases increased suddenly? Or am I missing something here?
Or did they completely drop asymptomatic and then start counting something completely different, which would be cases NOT tested but symptomatic, with milder symptoms not triggering need for a test (in the mind of the doctor)?
It's getting harder to follow.

The data out of China is crap-throw it in the trash. No one really knows what the real numbers are or if they are even good.
Look, just know that it's bad. There are now "official" news sources which tell (cnbc) that China is bolting down apartment complexes. They are WELDING shut apartment buildings. They claim they will provide food for them . . .that's what they claim.
There are shooting people and the latest is that they are offering a reward $71 to anyone who REPORTS someone with a fever.
In China, this is turning into hell. You know what is going to happen when they report someone who has a fever-they are going to shoot the person who has the fever.
Their mindset right now is treating people like animals, an individual is the same as pig. People are herds of pigs and this infection has started in one set of the pigs and to "save" the rest they are going to kill anyone who is even suspected of having the virus.

It was reported several days ago that China was no longer counting people who tested positive but had no symptoms. As of that day, new cases started to decline each day. Then after doing this for about 5 days, they did report the previous unreported new cases as new cases, which caused a one day massive spike in new cases. That is the information I have. I also agree with JohnBob that all numbers reported out of China are highly suspect - what I have been reading claims that China has been goalseeking their numbers, and possibly thousands of deaths were classified as pneumonia. THAT part is speculative, but likely. As far as the new cases spiking, todays numbers I would expect to be back around 5,000. That would also show that the 14,000 number was a one time anomaly that was caused by them changing the definition of "new confirmed case". So, it is getting confusing, I agree, but this is my considered opinion going forward:
If the numbers do drop to around 4 or 5K (as I expect) and the WHO uses that to say that China is manipulating their numbers - my read on that is that I believe China is actually being somewhat accurate and the WHO is using it to fear monger. I am sure there are statisticians at least as competent as me at the WHO, so I would see that as intentional deception and fear mongering on the WHO's part.
Regarding people being shot in the street, I haven't read or seen anything about that. I have read that the virus and how it is being handled is seen as a threat to President Xi's power, and I do believe world leaders in general see "normies" (i.e. us) as herd animals that they manage and try to keep productive and more or less under control. China is just more open about it due to their political structures.
I'm mostly trying to stay objective, and not be swayed by the fearmongering National Enquirer types and also not by the naysayers. In the past, I tend to be a naysayer as I know government and the media use fear as a manipulation tool. To me, this feels like more of a real threat that we at least should be closely monitoring.
Hope that helps clarify at least my opinion on it.

Whether they are STILL doing this is unknown-but it's probably why they won't let the CDC into the epicenter. They have to burn all the bodies and clean up the mess first.
There is another video (can't find it now) but was on a mainstream site, with a video clip with Chinese citizens "forced to kneel" for violating quarantine, with a bunch of cops around and them spraying mists all over the place. . .it looked more like an execution.
God I hope Trump wins this election-Sanders with his commies or Antifa winning + a massive epidemic = hell on earth.
Luckily from what I've read-IF and that's a big IF this is like the spanish flu it will come in waves (that is what they have been prepping for), one wave hits for a couple of months, recedes for 3-4 months then another wave hits.
The spanish flu had 3 waves, with the middle wave being the worst.

It does seem like Chinese authorities are treating humans like animals “that need to be put down.” I wonder what world Human Rights groups can do, considering the overpowering government.
The US CDC is in the process of gathering info, and surprisingly, this virus has been around a while...
“SARS-CoVSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) was first recognized in China in November 2002. It caused a worldwide outbreak in 2002-2003 with 8,098 probable cases including 774 deaths. Since 2004, there have not been any known cases of SARS-CoV infection reported anywhere in the world...
MERS-CoVMiddle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. It has since caused illness in people from dozens of other countries. All cases to date have been linked to countries in or near the Arabian Peninsula. CDC continues to closely monitor MERS globally and work with partners to better understand the risks of this virus, including the source, how it spreads, and how infections might be prevented.
On February 11, 2020 the World Health Organization announced an official name for the disease that is causing the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak, COVID-19. CDC will be updating our website and other CDC materials to reflect the updated name.“

It's a different strain of the coronovirus. This is NOT MERS and it is NOT SARS. When you look at the infection rate and death rate it is different.
It's a similar family-but definitely not the same thing. It's more infectious . . .and as for death . . .well we aren't quite sure yet.

Also note that I've been hearing that this virus, unlike flu, doesn't prompt immunity, meaning that right after you heal you could potentially contract it again. I guess we'll find out later if that ends up being accurate. If accurate, I wonder how that will affect numbers. I hope they'll consider repeat "customers" a new confirmed case, or at least have carefully compartmentalized numbers. This tool has been compartmentalizing more and more...tool updates aren't coming as fast as I'd like, but they're making progress. Notice the tabs and such.

I realize they are not exactly the same - thus the different names - but they are all coronavirus, and no news I read mentioned it. I imagine there has already been plenty of research and work on the previous similar viruses, and that could be helpful to responding to the “COVID-19” strain.

Yeah,I don't know about the immunity thing. For example there is this idea that it can incubate for 24 days. But the case where that happened-it appears that the person was reinfected sometime after the initial contact-so it really wasn't 24 days.
The bottom line is there is just a lot of bad data.
The biggest cause for concern for this is more the reactions from China more than anything. They have to know that shooting people in the streets will get out. They would only escalate to that level if they thought it was really serious.

China made a big whoopsie when altering the coronavirus numbers.
As we pointed out at the time, while China "can now claim it wants to be more transparent (which is odd for a nation that is still refusing to admit the US CDC on the ground) and wants a more comprehensive definition of "infection" because it is suddenly so concerned about all those people it ordered to go back to work on Monday, it somehow also changed the definition of "death", because at the same time as the explosion in new cases, which clearly indicates that the pandemic is now clearly out of control, the number of reported deaths in Hubei alone spiked by 242 to 1,310."
It's really important to grasp this. On the day that new cases spiked (due to the under reporting of the previous few days) they also spiked the number of deaths (to maintain the 2.1% mortality rate). But this makes no sense - while the "new case" spike is understandable, it makes no sense that there would be a matching spike in deaths.

This is huge. It really indicates that China is just fabricating numbers.

the fact china still reports the numbers growing linearly is hilarious
then again, what do numbers matter when “case” gets reinterpreted in hopes to stave off panic. i can at least understand the chinese state’s reasoning here
no one in china nor anywhere else in the world need fear the coronavirus more than the panic and other secondary effects that would more than likely sweep with it.
if i were xi, I would be snapping at the heels of the scientists to make me an asymptomatic variant to inoculate people with. the rest of the world should be doing the same. we may not luck out with nature solving that for us as it largely did with the ebola epidemic. lucky mutations are tender mercies innit - doesn’t mean one should expect it to happen every time.

As I have said before, regardless of how serious the health repercussions turn out to be, the financial impact, in my opinion is already a done deal (although if it goes pandemic, of course the global economic impact will also be bigger.)
Thing is, the global economy has been on life support since 2008 in my opinion. If the banksters don't take this opportunity to crash the market when they have the perfect scapegoat to blame it on, they are crazy.
