Thanks for posting Dave's announcements. Please post his podcast link when and if you get it. You're better at this than I am.

Seriously, it seems that all the people I trust, and enjoy listening to, are being censored. What a crazy world. Totally upside down when pOrn is allowed, but not conservative or religious newscasts.

I think it's going the other way... The Main Stream Media wants the Coronavirus to be the story of the day to overshadow the farce and failure of the impeachment effort. The public is being whipped into a lather about the coronavirus when there are only 12 cases as of today in the US. Compared to regular flu which has sickened 19,000,000 in the US so far this year, and 10,000 have died from it.

It's a false dichotomy to compare the flu with coronavirus, unless you can prove that both have the same R0 (R-naught) value. Generally, the flu has a value of 1, and the coronavirus may have a value of 2-4 (this is what is being reported). Very different scenarios.

Coronavirus has the potential of exponential infection growth. Where flu would infect 20 additional people in 20 cycles with an R0 of 1, a virus with an R0 of 4 would infect 240 BILLION in the same 20 cycles.

Do you remember what happens when you double the number of grains of rice on each square of a checkerboard? That is an illustration of an R0 value of 2.

This video was posted by SPIRIT a few days ago, and is an excellent 10-minute scientific explanation of R-naught and why it matters:

Thank you Lizzy60 for the facts! Now I know the high level of concern is warranted!
We have a co-worker who just spent 2 weeks within 20 minutes of ground zero in Wuhan, China (his fiance is from there and they went to visit family prior to the wedding). While he was over there, the Coronavirus started cropping up in the news. Our department started worrying about our co-worker, as he is older, (65+) and we have a pregnant woman in the cubicle right next to his.

Conferring with HR and reconciling that our industry is heavily tourist centric, The boss sent a message for him to stay home for three weeks under self-quarantine until the risk has passed for the rest of the department.

I also heard he had trouble getting home from China, as quantity of flights have plunged. (No planes going to China, means way less planes leaving China).

I'll need to watch the videos to understand it better, but does R0 take into account the incubation period, or is it based merely on how easy it is to get infected?

I've read the coronavirus can incubate for up to 2 weeks without showing symptoms.
