DMBA now offers same-sex ins.
I have read this before but confirmed it with my sis-in-law who works for DMBA that since November 11th, 2019, the church has provided insurance for same-sex couples. Now I would imagine that this is mostly a legal requirement but wonder if anyone wants to take my bet that within 10 years we see gay sealings in the temples?

Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators
"benefits stuff". I put it in quotes because they provide lots of different services like retirement stuff, health insurance, and other HR-type things you could imagine. If you're a BYU student and opt for the student health plan (which almost nobody does because government handouts are way cheaper OR they are less than 26-years-old so they stay on their parent's plan), then you will have a health plan through DMBA.
They render services to these companies/groups:
AgReserves, Inc.
Beneficial Financial Group
Bonneville International Corporation
Brigham Young University
Brigham Young University - Hawaii
Brigham Young University - Idaho
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
City Creek Reserves, Inc.
Deseret Book Company
Deseret Digital Media
Deseret Management Corporation
DMBA
Deseret News
Deseret Trust Company
East Central Florida Services
Ensign Peak
Hawaii Reserves, Inc.
LDS Business College
Family Services
Polynesian Cultural Center
Property Reserve, Inc.
Suburban Land Reserve, Inc.
Taylor Creek Management
Temple Square Hospitality Corporation
Utah Property Management Associates, LLC
I don't think this particular change necessarily means we're going to be doing gay sealings in the temple soon. But it would be interesting to get more info regarding whether this was legally motivated and what specific laws motivated it.

Is it run by the church?Mahalanobis Distance wrote: ↑January 20th, 2020, 5:53 pmDeseret Mutual Benefit Administrators

I'll take that bet. Not gonna happen.Aprhys wrote: ↑January 20th, 2020, 3:44 pm I have read this before but confirmed it with my sis-in-law who works for DMBA that since November 11th, 2019, the church has provided insurance for same-sex couples. No way on the planet I would take that bet. I have felt for a number years it will most certainly happen, and my husband has strongly disagreed with me. You should have seen his face today, to find out that his alma mater will now allow same sex dance couples in their dance competitions.

Yeah, my husband had the same look a few minutes ago. I told him first that BYU was told they couldn't host the competition unless they allowed same-sex couple dancers.....and I think he was waiting for me to say that they held the moral ground....only to be disappointed once again. He's trying so hard to see some hope, but between the gun ban and the pandering to gays, he's thinking he's entered a parallel universe.BringerOfJoy wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 5:10 pm No way on the planet I would take that bet. It's sad because last year they held their ground.Lizzy60 wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 6:08 pmYeah, my husband had the same look a few minutes ago. Unfortunately people like to look at the top and blame the top-but that's not the problem. The top is only reflecting what the rest of the Body of Christ has become.Mahalanobis Distance wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 6:25 pmIt's sad because last year they held their ground.Lizzy60 wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 6:08 pmYeah, my husband had the same look a few minutes ago. I was once very distraught and upset by all this-but now I'm more just resolved. I understand where it is going, I understand why it is going that way, I understand what my current role is and I understand what comes after.
It's the last great carnival ride. All the freaks and monsters from the edge are becoming the center and the center becomes the edge. It is in reality-the Last Days. A non-stop freak show, as society prepares itself for death. We are reaching the end of the ride and the world parties. The glorious thing is what comes after death-3 days of silence and then Glory to God Resurrection baby! How bad it gets before the ride comes crashing down on itself is TBD-but death is coming-that's a good thing. And then the resurrection and that's a good thing too.
Church's are becoming entertainment freak shows. Get ready for the last ride-because it's going to be interesting!

Re: DMBA now offers same-sex ins.
I would agree that is the case, and it will grow to be increasingly so.
But, as they say, "Right is right even if no one else is doing it; AND Wrong is wrong even if everyone else is doing it."
Or as the scriptures say, "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?”
When you make decisions to maintain your 501(c)3 status; when you make decisions to maintain the institution as it is presently constituted, or even to be popular with the world, you become Episcopalians. That is a slippery slope indeed! And I've already been there, done that by birth, and not by choice. I find no need to return to that.

With the current church position on homosexuality, it is impossible to defend bans such as these. This is the problem with the changing doctrine. If it is OK to base your identity on the desire to thrust your genitals into another man's poop container, how can you deny them the right to simply dance together?Mahalanobis Distance wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 6:25 pmIt's sad because last year they held their ground.Lizzy60 wrote: ↑January 21st, 2020, 6:08 pmYeah, my husband had the same look a few minutes ago. Just wait until the logical conclusion of this is reached. This is a very sandy foundation. It's going to sink into the mud.Serragon wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 12:42 pmWith the current church position on homosexuality, it is impossible to defend bans such as these.
