If Not Now, When?

Post by ajax »

Joseph F Smith, General Conference April 5, 1907:
Furthermore, I want to say to you, we may not be able to reach it right away, but we expect to see the day when we will not have to ask you for one dollar of donation for any purpose, except that which you volunteer to give of your own accord, because we will have tithes sufficient in the storehouse of the Lord to pay everything that is needful for the advancement of the kingdom of God. I want to live to see that day, if the Lord will spare my life. It does not make any difference, though, so far as that is concerned, whether I live or not. That is the true policy, the true purpose of the Lord in the management of the affairs of His Church.

Seeing that the church can take care of its operating costs via earned interest alone, if not now, when?

Iff and when they invest in OTEC, and see their investment bear fruit. ;)
Today, totally taken by surprise, I met someone from St. Thomas, who totally gets the need.

Hurricanes and typhoons, but not future past. :geek: 👀 dbnp

Approximately 2 years hence, we’ll likely meet again via similar circumstance. Kiribati and Bonaire, will by then be bearing said fruit, with an abundance of seeds being planted. One can certainly hope so. 8-)

Later, when economies all over the world fail, and there's no food, and ...

Just wait, we'll be grateful they did it. :)

I disagree. If the economies fail, the vast majority of Church "assets" fail. EPA investments seem to be in the form of stocks, bonds and multiple securities. Hard assets, like land, livestock, storehouses and so forth are a much better hedge against a global economic collapse. Even so, they are peanuts to the needs of members and non-members alike, bearing there is any sort of collapse. If markets collapse, any sort of money will lose value exponentially. Remember, this so called "wealth" exist in the ether.

Did what? What exactly did they do? If you mean playing the markets successfully over the last two decades? How will that be a benefit, when those markets implode?

If we see things as they are now, not as they will be, I would agree with those thoughts.

However it happens, I think the faithful will understand it was for their salvation and preservation.
