So young men are playing video games so they can act more like a "conservative," which equals buying weapons and making money? In other words he and you are saying that men play video games because they can't do enough of this in the real world? You've got to be kidding. He admitted he's a gamer. Sounds like a weak excuse to indulge in male fun and fantasy. I have three boys who love to play video and computer games, and I realize it is simply about their desire to escape from the world of responsibility and enter the world of fun. That's why I limit it to 30 - 60 min/day. But it sure makes for an attractive reward for good behavior
Sure it's a form of escapism, but escape to what? And from what? Why?

Sorry, ajax, just realized I went off topic....
Escape to something easy and fun and stimulating and an escape from anything hard. Why? Because that is human nature to not want to work, including the effort it takes to be creative and social.
What I don't like is the notion that if we made something easier for someone to attain like a spouse or a job or a gun, somehow that will make a person turn away from their favorite stimulating pastime. No, I don't think so. Complaining about how hard it is is just an excuse to not try and an easy way to put the blame on someone else.
haha no arguments here! :D

I recently saw the new movie. I wasn't going to see it, but I was given a free ticket.

I've been thinking a little about all 3 trilogies. And there's a lot of stupid stuff. Dumb plot elements, dorky lines. I mean, how many memes have been created in the history of Star wars that effectively make fun of it? I can loop over every movie and rattle off several reasons why it's poorly done (yes, even the originals).

Anyways, there's a reason that starwars resonates with us even though it's pretty crappy. I think it all comes down to the dogma surrounding the Force. The teachings of the original ObiWan and the original Yoda were excellent. The prequels captured a tiny bit of this in the personality of QuiGon, but the Disney trilogy didn't have any of this. They basically threw it all out the window in favor of fan service, social justice, and newly revealed force abilities.

There was a good Redlettermedia video on how Star Wars has become basically like a cult following funded by Disney and lead by Kathleen Kennedy (they make great movie reviews but if strong language offends you beware). It's no longer just some fun movies with relatable characters and a good down to earth message and story. It's become 75% profit driven and 25% SJW/Political narratives (exclusively leftist). Wrtting, casting, character development, sets ect all take a back seat to the diversity/feminist narrative in these movies and that's why they are so poorly regarded compared to the older ones and have angered most long time fans of the franchise. They couldn't do something new, they had to bring back the stupid Rebels vs Empire with a superweapon narrative. They couldn't show Luke as powerful and as a mentor to Rey because they can't show a woman as weak or needing assistance from a male mentor, so they turn him into a jaded old hermit and kill him off in a rather cowardly way while Rey gets trained by Leia in the later movie. They bring back the Emperor as the villian again to be easily killed by Rey thus negating everything accomplished by Luke and Anakin/Vader in the previous trilogies.

This is what happens when leftist women run things. It's not a question of if but when they run whatever they're in charge of into the ground. How many times do we have to learn this lesson?

If you find the boycott to be a satisfying event, I invite you to extend it to, well, forever. The mere fact that he can declare that "Star Wars is the religion of post-Christian America" is kind ofw chilling. Why are we ok with that?

Also, his point about boys turning to video games to act like men, at least in fantasy, because the social consequences are too high to act like a man in real life..... soooooo valid. Men have been shamed into hiding who they are. But you cannot beat biology.
What do these boys want to do in real life that is being denied them?

Because YOUR boys are different than all the others.

Sorry, not sure what you mean. You think my children are the exception? I spent tons of time playing video games when I was younger and it was for the same reasons.

I saw the movie yesterday and was disappointed with the two women kissing at the end, which reminded me of what they did in Beauty and the Beast to ruin the ending. But I liked some of the plot elements, like the demonstration of sacrifice and forgiveness, and repentance or change for the better with so many of the characters. The force definitely reminds me of the need to focus on the spirit, and that God's power can do anything. Yes, there is a focus on diversity and woman power, but in some ways I liked that because the focus was on everyone united and working together no matter what their characteristic were.

I'm sure to some extent that's true. It's about leaving the world of responsibility and entering the world of fun. For men, I feel like it's leaving the world of tons of rules against stuff you can do... against creative powers.. and entering the world where you can pretend to do those things. Men innately want to create change and do something with their talents/lives. So they aren't just like "Yay, fun!" People who want to play video games are doing it because their true desires are being suppressed. Look at boys who choose to play and not play video games and you will see that they are trying to recreate the sense that they are doing something with their life - or it's a social thing. While I imagine somewhere there are boys who play for fun, I can remember lots of friends and acquaintances that have played video games, but I can't put my finger on a single one who has played video games because they're "fun".

Would you rather play in the woods or sit and move four fingers staring at a screen? Life has more features and has way better graphics.
