Haven't watched the video but I was just talking to my family about this. Disney said they wanted their Star Wars to appeal to a wider audience but they've literally done the polar opposite. The OT resonated with all ages with reflections of eternal truth. The DT (disney trilogy) resonates only with leftists and the SJW refuse that reflects the adversaries attempts to destroy actual gender identity.

The Disney trilogy really is just glorified fan fiction, anyway.

I invite my fellow LDSFF viewers to join me in a well deserved boycott of Hollywood this season. Stop giving money to people who hate you.

If you find the boycott to be a satisfying event, I invite you to extend it to, well, forever. The mere fact that he can declare that "Star Wars is the religion of post-Christian America" is kind of chilling. Why are we ok with that?

Also, his point about boys turning to video games to act like men, at least in fantasy, because the social consequences are too high to act like a man in real life..... soooooo valid. Men have been shamed into hiding who they are. But you cannot beat biology.

Ford vs Ferrari is an excellent family and manly movie.

That's his opinion. I'd be interested in a conversation as to why he thinks that. It is definitely a mythology and morality play, and a good one (at least the original trilogy, episodes IV, V, VI). Every culture has it's mythology's that we can learn a great deal about the human condition from. They are part of the canon of classic literature. Star Wars fall into this in cinematic form.[/quote]

This is also true of heavy metal. This is an interesting take of boys turning to heavy metal to feel like men.

I like the original Star Wars, but I really love the prequel trilogy. I love the mythos and philosophical struggle between the Jedi, the Sith, and the Force. Arguments over it mirror real life theology and morality with questions such as:
"Are the Jedi correct?"
"What is 'balance'?"
"What IS the Force? Does it have a will? Why?"

Many people argue these kinds of things, and I find that, like in real life discussions of religion or morality, many people get it wrong, even if they're honestly trying to hit the mark. Besides all that, there's just something timelessly satisfying about Jedi and their capabilities, all while sitting against that cosmic backdrop of "listening to the will of the Force" vs. "exerting your will over the Force's".

The "It's will vs. your own" and "Peaceful individual liberty vs control of others" struggles are the most important struggles in real life, even outside mortality, and it is more closely and more entertainingly exemplified by the first and only six episodes of Star Wars than any other fiction I've experienced.

The prequel trilogy expanded and set the stage for the original masterpieces. The Disney fan fiction merely threw out everything significant the original accomplished so that, once again, we have the underdog good guys battling the evil non-diverse "empire" run by white men. I can't wait for Palpatine to come back so that they can make him look vaguely like Donald Trump, then have Rey trounce him in a one-on-one showdown, flipping the bird to Luke, Darth Vader, Yoda, and suspension of disbelief itself.

Star Wars went from "Anakin and Padme were ready to do whatever it took to care for their unborn children despite the threat to their social and economic lives in an age where people in real life are killing fetuses out of convenience with impunity" to "Men are incompetent trash to die off so that women can step in and be men instead."

Anakin skirted areas he was taught not to instead of remaining faithful and wound up losing everything the light gave him. Luke was brash and paid for it, so that he could slow down and grow by faith and patience. Rey is a Mary Sue who can reject/beat up/outperform all the meanie bully boys and has no actual growth whatsoever 'cuz she hashtags like a girl! She can do anything she sets her mind to!

Some new Star Wars Jedi game came out on Steam, and I love Jedi enough to deal with Steam at all to play something like it, but I couldn't even bring myself to do so because the trailer is just a bunch of clips of some young white male Jedi being shocked or in over his head as some affirmative action agent shows how clearly more "badass" she is.

Can confirm. SJWs killed Star Wars, and it matters.

As for Sarah's question? Some of those things would include the following:
- Express interest in a girl without legal risk.
- Defend his own life or property without legal risk.
- Prevent the need to defend life or property by using intimidation without legal risk.
- Get a desired job or promotion without losing the slot to affirmative action, whether a legal requirement, an incentive, or as a social bias.
- Tell the truth about the differences, strengths, and weaknesses of men and women without being dismissed as "sexist".
- Have a fair shake at being at least equally involved in his children's lives in the event of a divorce.
- Be called to the Supreme Court of the United States without almost having his life destroyed by a partisan hack with a partisan hack lawyer who actively assaulted the credibility of rape claims generally, doing a grave and possibly scarring or fatal disservice to women with legitimate rape claims.

btw, Han didn't shoot "first". He was the only one who shot. Brilliant scene. In the first two minutes, we know who Han Solo is.

I still have the original on VHS.

You should put that somewhere on YouTube as a reminder of scrubbed truth. It would live forever (or at least until scrubbed by the censors).

I could just as easily say men who watch sports are fantasizing. Heck, fantasy football is just socially acceptable (for some reason) Dungeons and Dragons.

That said I don't think it's one or the other. You are either a man or you fantasize through video games? At least with video games you're playing a game, often socially, whereas sports is grown men watching other grown men be grossly overpaid to play games in matching dress-up. Sports are rather silly when you take a step back and think about what's going on. The over importance given makes it even sillier.

Both sports and video games are leisure activities that should be done in moderation. Either can get out of balance when too much time or energy or importance is given.

That all said I don't go to the movies nearly as much as I used to. I believe the putrid politics that have infested Hollywood is bringing fewer and fewer people to the box office. SJWars, Terminator Dike Fate, etc. You'd think Hollywood would be more interested in making money by actually appealing to a wider audience but they've made clear who their master is and he's yanking those chains he's laid in place more strongly than ever.

So young men are playing video games so they can act more like a "conservative," which equals buying weapons and making money? In other words he and you are saying that men play video games because they can't do enough of this in the real world? You've got to be kidding. He admitted he's a gamer. Sounds like a weak excuse to indulge in male fun and fantasy. I have three boys who love to play video and computer games, and I realize it is simply about their desire to escape from the world of responsibility and enter the world of fun. That's why I limit it to 30 - 60 min/day. But it sure makes for an attractive reward for good behavior

Thanks for trying to answer my question. I think my last response covers yours as well. All these reasons you present for the excuse to play video games are pretty weak. If a man is expressing interest in a girl in a way that places him at risk, what is he doing? He should simply ask the girl out to dinner and accept her answer. If men are so scared to ask a girl out that they'd rather play video games, then that is their problem. Plenty of women out there looking for a man who doesn't play video games all day but has some goals. Video games just makes the men sedentary which makes them gain weight and slouch, all unattractive to women.

I think we hear stories all the time where individuals protected themselves and weren't afraid to do so. I've never heard of anyone being afraid to protect themselves if being attacked. I think men (and women) just want to play video games so they can feel good about themselves - they can succeed at something. If they are failing in the real world then they need to spend more time working in the real world to succeed and stop blaming others for their laziness.

Affirmative action - Not sure how widespread the problem is. But again, weak excuse. I don't agree with it, and I think it mainly affects state funded entities, but my husband and I have not encountered this personally, but rather anti-LDS discrimination.

Divorce, I'm sure this happens, but all the divorced dads I know have a fair chance to see their kids. They need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and engaging in behaviors that just make them more unfit to be a Dad, and work towards making their lives productive so that they can have a chance to be with their kids.
I'm sure for every sob story of a father who got ruined by a wife, there are just as many stories of wives getting ruined by a husband.

Fantasy movies, fantasy football, fantasy video games, fantasy novels, fantasy porn, fantasy TV series, fantasy sports, fantasy fantasies.... There is no end to the diversions the master of sin has in his treasure trove to offer us.
It was mentioned above about "limiting" the young boys to 30-60 minutes a day of video game playing. I have witnessed the powerful draw and pull of video games and also the powerful draw of all of the above mentioned "fantasies" along with hundreds of others not mentioned. IMO, 30-60 minutes a day is 30-60 minutes to much., guaranteed they are addicted right now and it will be very very hard to get rid of that addiction, and that is, if the addiction is ever overcome. And that goes along with all addictions or rather "chains" that we let ourselves get bound with.
God wants our whole heart, not part of it, not a certain percentage, but all of it. We cannot serve two masters and be happy. It is impossible. I have played the video games, I know from experience the power of those addictions, and it is a power that is gained over us by the adversary as to the level that we descend into its addiction. It is the same with all addictions/diversions. The are specifically designed to lead us astray and away from God. Hence the saying, "choose ye this day whom ye will serve".
These are the chains of Babylon, and we are completely immersed and bound in those chains, and we should be crying day and night until deliverance comes.

Guys, guys, it's not that boys want to act out exactly what is in video games.

In an age of urban boys, with no land and creatures to explore, no hunting and fishing, no outdoor risk taking, these games have become outlets to that sort of longing: Exploration, heroism, adventure etc...

I agree that 30-60 min can be enough to be addicting, because it is. But I also realize that my siblings and I were addicted at that age to video games, music, and television, and none of us are that way now. It is about learning to self-govern and be responsible despite all the enticing entertainment choices we have in our world. I've given up all my entertainment addictions (except LDSFF ;) ). I think my children need to be exposed to some forms of games and entertainment, and learn how to have self-control and balance, so they can learn to have balance. Right now I have one boy who loves playing madden football, because he loves football. My other two boys are more into logic computer games. We don't allow any games with weapons or punching etc. and we don't watch any movies or TV. Our ward knows my kids are "sheltered" compared to what they all do themselves, so I do see it as a huge cultural problem within the church as well and wish my kids had more friends who were not into so much entertainment. That is what everyone talks about, even the moms!

God doesn't expect us to dedicate every minute of our lives to service. He wants us to spend time with our families, our friends, our neighbors, and he wants us to have joy even in this life. Spending time with family playing games is not wrong. Whether I'm playing a board game or that exact same game on a video game system isn't going to make one whit of difference in the judgement. Kids and adults can absolutely become addicted to video games just as folks can get addicted to poker or sports or any other game *edit* or past-time such as hunting / fishing. *edit*

Sorry, I just find it extremely silly how folks demonize video games as though they're evil and must be avoided. Did you know a few of my college friends and I assisted in the Spirit to convert someone online while playing a social video game? I've shared that a couple of times here when this topic comes up. I was spending time with my friends online in a video game *gasp* and we introduced a nice woman to the Gospel. She was baptized and married another member of the church. Maybe we should ask her what she thinks of video games. lol

This is an excellent point - I have a family member who spends way too much time out hunting and in the woods. It's moderation in all things pure and simple. It's balance. etc.

Back to the OP - My belief may be a tad on the extreme side, but imho Star Wars has some important reflections of eternal truth that are extremely relevant today - to demonize men, emasculate them, and turn Luke Skywalker into a whiney, cowardly hermit was nothing more than a part of this continued assault on men, on women, on our eternal roles, on family, on genealogy / lineage, etc. Star Wars resonated because it absolutely reflected these truths. Sure Princess Leia was tough, but she wore a dress and did her hair too and was taken in by the charms of Han Solo (I can still quote that entire scene haha)

I was harsh for sure, because of seeing what these addictions have done to friends and relatives. And I do agree moderation in all things. Although no moderation in sin. But I still consider most all of these things that turn into addictions are much better off avoided. I do though go for a nice baseball game with the family, but no, not "fantasy baseball". 😉

Sure it's a form of escapism, but escape to what? And from what? Why?

Sorry, ajax, just realized I went off topic....

No biggie, every thread on LDSFF gets off topic. And I'm as guilty as anyone as creating offshoot topics within threads. It eventually gets back around though.

ajax wrote: December 12th, 2019, 10:30 am Guys, guys, it's not that boys want to act out exactly what is in video games.

In an age of urban boys, with no land and creatures to explore, no hunting and fishing, no outdoor risk taking, these games have become outlets to that sort of longing: Exploration, heroism, adventure etc...
Exactly what I was thinking.

Escape to something easy and fun and stimulating and an escape from anything hard. Why? Because that is human nature to not want to work, including the effort it takes to be creative and social.
What I don't like is the notion that if we made something easier for someone to attain like a spouse or a job or a gun, somehow that will make a person turn away from their favorite stimulating pastime. No, I don't think so. Complaining about how hard it is is just an excuse to not try and an easy way to put the blame on someone else.

I still have the original on VHS.
Have you seen Harmy's Despecialized Edition?
