Are we in a countdown to something big?

Watching what’s going on in the news and seeing the division between the global elite and those who have awakened to our awful situation, I often find myself wanting to point out that these events are part of the signs of the times. Signs of the closeness of the Lord’s Second Advent.
Please, let us not get so caught up with things in the news and social media that we forget what these events are pointing us to! President Nelson has said:
“If you think the Church has been fully restored, you're just seeing the beginning. There is much more to come. … Wait till next year. And then the next year. Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It's going to be exciting.”
While in Rome he said:
"This is a hinge point in the history of the church. Things are going to move forward at an accelerated pace, of which this is a part," he said, later adding, "The church is going to have an unprecedented future, unparalleled; we're just building up to what's ahead now."
And he also said this in April conference of 2018:
“Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory.”
As I ponder and pray about how we should respond to our changing world, I just can’t help thinking that we need for focus more on the Lord’s coming and our own preparation more than on things around us, things that we can’t change.
As I see it, we are presently in a countdown to huge global changes, changes that will lead us in very short order into the millennial day. Do you see it coming, do you understand the countdown we are in?
To understand what I'm talking about by this countdown, please read chapter 17 of “The Bridegroom Cometh”. It’s a free pdf download…

The 2020's are going to be quite the decade in the history of the world, 'unprecedented' but unsurprising to those of us that know the signs of the times. We all feel it coming now. Be prepared mentally, physically and spiritually!

With the Dems, Liberals, Glogalists or whatever you want to call them being so focused on the destruction of liberty, borders, freedom, etc. It's not hard to see that they are striving to usurp power by whatever means possible. It appears to me that they have actually given up any possibility of winning at the ballot box. They are just going to continue on until the end of the 42 months and then we shall see this prophecy fulfilled...
"Verily, I say unto you, that the day of vexation and vengeance is nigh at the doors of this nation, when wicked, ungodly and daring men will rise up in wrath and might, and go forth in anger, like as the dust is driven by a terrible wind; and they will be the means of the destruction of the government and cause the death and misery of many souls; but the faithful among my people shall be preserved in holy places during all these tribulations." (Letter from W.W. Phelps to Brigham Young, dated August 12, 1861, Joseph Smith Collection, Church Historians Office.)
When this happens we shall have to stand "in holy places during all these tribulations" and prepare for that day that President Nelson spoke of when he said:
"Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory."
If you are familiar with what Joseph Fielding Smith said about Adam Ondi Ahman you know that this is where Christ is to be given "dominion, and glory, and a kingdom" or you might say he shall "preside over this Church in majesty and glory". Are you connecting the dots?

I agree, President Nelson is trying to tell us something and when he says "But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost" I think he's making the point that we're not going to "get it", not going to understand what he's saying if we're not in tune.
While in New Zealand he said, "The Lord is just as eager to reveal his will to you and anyone else, as he is to me". So I suppose that places the responsibility squarely upon each of us, right?

Agreed - there are other great quotes from that talk - in one he speaks of each of us receiving mysteries individually.
I urge you to stretch beyond your current spiritual ability to receive personal revelation, for the Lord has promised that “if thou shalt [seek], thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge, that thou mayest know the mysteries and peaceable things—that which bringeth joy, that which bringeth life eternal.”
Oh, there is so much more that your Father in Heaven wants you to know. As Elder Neal A. Maxwell taught, “To those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, it is clear that the Father and the Son are giving away the secrets of the universe!” ~ Russell M Nelson

As I see it, we are just about to experience what was referenced above in the unpublished revelation to Joseph Smith wherein he said:
"Verily, I say unto you, that the day of vexation and vengeance is nigh at the doors of this nation, when wicked, ungodly and daring men will rise up in wrath and might, and go forth in anger, like as the dust is driven by a terrible wind; and they will be the means of the destruction of the government and cause the death and misery of many souls; but the faithful among my people shall be preserved in holy places during all these tribulations.
I think this whole being "preserved in holy places during all these tribulations" thing is closely related to "home centered and Church supported" study concept. When the abomination of desolation via thermonuclear war comes upon us we shall have to stay inside for some period of time, thus we shall need to "stand in holy places". This is nothing other than a repeat of what God did to deliver the children of Israel at the first Passover. And I think that's why Isaiah uses such interesting language when he says:
20 ¶ Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
21 For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
We have to stay inside "until the indignation be overpast". And I think the word "overpast" implies not just a repeat of the deliverance of Passover in modern times but of the timing as well. Please read what Elder Bednar had to say in our last conference:
The programs and activities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are becoming ever more home centered and Church supported, as evidenced by the series of adjustments announced in recent general conferences. President Russell M. Nelson has counseled us: “There is much more to come. … Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It’s going to be exciting.”....
Enabling the accomplishment of this grand spiritual objective for individuals and families is one of the fundamental reasons the programs and activities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are becoming more home centered and Church supported in this specific season of the dispensation of the fulness of times....
Making our homes sanctuaries wherein we can “stand in holy places” is essential in these latter days. And as important as home-centered and Church-supported learning is for our spiritual strength and protection today, it will be even more vital in the future.
As Elder Bednar says, the concept of "home centered and Church supported" is closely related to standing "in holy places" which the Lord expressly informs us, "but the faithful among my people shall be preserved in holy places during all these tribulations". And all of this follows Elder Bednar's quoting President Nelson saying, “There is much more to come. … Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It’s going to be exciting.”
So something is "going to be exciting", have you figured it out yet?

You cannot stand in a Holy Place, unless you are worthy. You can not establish a Holy Place, unless you are Holy. You cannot be a part of Zion unless you are Zion inside and out. We must begin, or continue to establish Zion in our own lives and in the lives of our families now! He cannot come to us, unless we are able to come to Him. And that means we must be living a celestial law.

Thank you for the post Frank, and Alaris for your reply. I would like to add some thoughts about what else I need to stand in Holy Places:
Listening to the prophet
Visiting the temple
Listening to the impressions of the Holy G.
Loving, helping and serving our fellow humans
Reading and studying the scriptures
Personal revelations etc.
Last Sunday after a district conference the branch pres. and I felt impressed to call as many inactive members as we could to tell them that we love them and miss them so much!

Just to play devil's advocate-if the above is an "unpublished revelation from Joseph Smith", then how do we know that it is, in fact, from Joseph Smith? Why was it unpublished? Don't you think it is a little too convenient in this day and age? Sorry, these are the types of questions I get from my two eldest, who paint me in republican colors(despite my clear disdain for the two parties that have been pitted against each other), as I try to explain where we stand as a nation today.

Sorry, these are the types of questions I get from my two eldest, who paint me in republican colors(despite my clear disdain for the two parties that have been pitted against each other), as I try to explain where we stand as a nation today.
I got the revelation from a book of unpublished revelations taken from the archives of the Church. There are two explanations associated with this revelation, one at the beginning as follows. "A Revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith, west of Jackson County, Missouri, on July 17, 1831." and one at the end which states, "(Letter from W.W. Phelps to Brigham Young, dated August 12, 1861, Joseph Smith Collection, Church Historians Office.)".
I find it interesting how well it parallels this Ezra Taft Benson statement:
"if the gentiles on this land reject the word of God and conspire to overthrow liberty and the Constitution, then their doom is fixed, and they ". . . shall be cut off from among my people who are of the covenant". (1 Nephi 14:6; 3 Nephi 21:11, 14, 21; D&C 84:114-115, 117)
“The great destructive force which was to be turned loose on the earth and which the prophets for centuries have been calling the "abomination of desolation" is vividly described by those who saw it in vision. Ours is the first generation to realize how literally these prophecies can be fulfilled now that God, through science, has unlocked the secret to thermonuclear reaction.
“In the light of these prophecies there should be no doubt in the mind of any priesthood holder that the human family is headed for trouble. There are rugged days ahead. It is time for every man who wishes to do his duty to get himself prepared—physically, spiritually, and psychologically—for the task which may come at any time, as suddenly as the whirlwind”…. (Oct. general conference, 1961)
As I see it, the two statements cover the same situation, the one we are passing through presently.

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth, let him understand:
Nice comment, I agree completely. Standing in holy places is the proper response to the abomination of desolation which Ezra Taft Benson said would be "thermonuclear" in nature. And the nice thing about the abomination of desolation, if there is one, is that it leads directly to the Second Coming. From JST Matthew we read:
32 And again shall the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, be fulfilled.
33 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken...
36 And, as I said before, after the tribulation of those days, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn; and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory;

If LDS are taking ownership of the holy places then LDS must take ownership of Matthew 24:15.
Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth, let him understand:
It says to stand in THE holy place, interesting it doesn’t say A holy place. You think there is a difference in meaning here?

I think so - for each of us there is only one THE Holy place. I believe it means completely submitting to the Lord and Following the Spirit entirely. Thus we are the Holy Place.

Good question!
From the Greek Interlinear.
When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation having been spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in [the] place holy the [one] reading let him understand
The Greek word translated as "in [the]" is en. The "[the]" is an interpolation to make the language English friendly. So it just really says "in place holy". So no I do not think that there is a difference in meaning!

Some really good questions and comments... especially since there are two separate and distinct 42-month countdowns. One leading up to the Lord's appearance to his saints and another, at a later time, leading up to His appearing to the Jews. At any rate, I believe our 42 months is due to expire come this spring.

President Nelson in his
BYU devotional today stated the following:
The Love and Laws of God
By President Russell M. Nelson
You are the children whom God chose to be part of His battalion during this great climax in the longstanding battle between good and evil—between truth and error.
I don't think we are going to have to worry too much about gay marriage or the church being forced by law to accept it. If we do, it will be for a short season and Christ will sort it out sooner than we think. President Nelson, like President Monson before him, are both saying that this is the generation of the second coming. Do our best each day to live righteously to be worthy to be here during His millennial reign.

I found President Nelson's comment to students yesterday to be both interesting and revealing, he said:
"Truth number one: You are sons and daughters of God.
You already know this. You have sung about it ever since you were toddlers. But let me clarify a distinguishing characteristic about your identity. You are the children whom God chose to be part of His battalion during this great climax in the longstanding battle between good and evil—between truth and error. I would not be surprised if, when the veil is lifted in the next life, we learn that you actually pled with our Heavenly Father to be reserved for now. I would not be surprised to learn that premortally, you loved the Lord so much that you promised to defend His name and gospel during this world’s tumultuous winding-up scenes. One thing is certain: You are of the House of Israel and you have been sent here to help gather God’s elect."
So he says "You are the children whom God chose to be part of His battalion during
this great climax in the longstanding battle between good and evil—between truth and error." So it appears that as President Nelson see it, we are already in the "climax" and the BYU students are among those "whom God chose" to be a part of it.
He also says "you promised to defend His name and gospel during this world’s tumultuous winding-up scenes." ..."tumultuous winding-up scenes"... don't think you can interpret that any other way than a reference to the events of the second coming.

These concepts have been used on every generation since Joseph Smith. They just repackage, rephrase, or just copy what some previous church leader said and every few years drag it out and present it as new. This concept is non scriptural and is just a mechanism to control the current generation. If I'm mistaken please enlighten me.
Every single generation can't be the so called "chosen generation".
