The owner of 8chan is saying that the manifesto was not posted by the shooter.
“First of all, the El Paso shooter posted on Instagram, not 8Chan. Later, someone uploaded a manifesto. However, that manifesto was not uploaded by the Walmart shooter,” Watkins asserted in his video statement. “I don’t know if he wrote it or not, but it was not uploaded by the murderer. That is clear, and law enforcement was made aware of this before most people had even heard the horrific news.”

A common myth you can expect to hear a lot in the coming days and weeks is that the United States “leads the world in mass shootings” and therefore we must pass some law that will do nothing to stop future mass shootings, but will infringe on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

What you might not hear is that this claim is completely bogus.

Sure, if you following conservative media, you’re probably aware of this. Townhall, The Daily Signal, Bearing Arms, FEE, The Washington Examiner, and others have all previously reported on how the myth that the United States leads the world in mass shootings is based on a deeply flawed study, which has been debunked by the Crime Prevention Research Center.

Yet, the myth remains alive and is sure to be regurgitated endlessly again.

The following video from John Stossel explains how the myth got started and why it's bogus:

Good info. In contrast, the US Gov't has committed and currently commits massacres on foreign populations regularly - for decades. Too bad the outrage for that is close to nil.

Too true. But then, taking it to national levels, compared to massacres committed by communist regimes, the U.S. can't begin to compare. It's all just sad and Satanic - nationally, down to individually.

They will leave the definition of what constitutes a mental illness up to a bunch of unelected radical leftist psychologists and within a matter of years every single American will have a mental illness.
Open question: if we think it's OK to take away someone's guns because we think they're a danger to themselves or others, with no due process, why not just put them in jail? Wouldn't that be safer for everyone?

Do we think they will no longer be a danger without their guns? Or do we balk at that because the thought of jailing someone without due process seems abhorrent?

If we're willing to dispense with due process for the greater public good, let's just get rid of it completely. It would save more lives, right?

Just questions I wish someone on the left (and now Republicans, it seems) would answer.

A very valid point.

I wish there were a non NYTIMES version of this story, but if Republicans are caving just because we had two shootings in close proximity ...

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/06/us/p ... ntrol.html

Due process, 2nd Amendment, Freedom of Speech - what else is trampled by such a notion as a pre-crime / minority report like Bill to stop folks before they become a danger???

And what a nice subjective way to disarm folks who aren't even the ones raising "red flags" - & who determines what classifies as a red flag? Leftists??? They literally see hatred every where they look because projection.

I think it's safe to say that under this law, anyone put on a government watch list would be red-flagged away from their guns in a not-too-distant future.

And Trump, who everybody thinks is pro-gun for some reason--even spoke at the last NRA convention--has already expressed support for it. The same guy who reinterpreted the plain language of a law to create a completely new definition of "machine gun." We have a constitutional traitor in the Whitehouse, and the NRA asleep at the wheel, too busy grifting their members' money to care about what's really going on. Things aren't looking good these days, folks.
