Joseph did what he came on this earth to do. But by no means is Israel gathered yet. In fact, it seems that the gathering of Israel, at least in the COJC, is done away with, as all converts are to stay in their own country. I think there is going to be a, or rather "the" gathering of Isreal that is going to make the whole world wonder in amazement. What has transpired thus far in regards to the restoration is but a little shadow compared to what is coming. Also what is coming will be under the direction of a "Deliverer" like unto Moses that has not arrived on the scene yet. A Deliverer "unto whom is laid much power". One that will "slay the wicked with the breath of His lips". Joseph Smith laid the foundation, this latter day Deliverer will finish it. And it is no little thing, what He does will cause the whole world to wonder and be astonished in His work of the "Restoration of all things spoken of by the mouths of all the holy prophets".

Funnily enough, some Jewish Traditions actually have there being 4 deliverers, of which the Messiah Ben Joseph, and Messiah ben Judah are but two of.

Thank you for sharing. I wonder if the Jewish tradition could be layered, and be about Joseph Smith and a Joseph yet to come that will succeed in bringing Zion.

Israel is being gathered into the Stakes of Zion around the world. Yes, there will be much more work to come.

My understanding is that the great gathering of the tribes of Israel and the restoration of the Lost Tribes are a singular event of such magnificence that it will top the parting of the Red Sea in amazement and recognition. By extension, talk of "gathering Israel" through missionary work is just flowery language, not an expression that "The" gathering was to occur because of missionary work.

If I may kindly disagree, at least how I understand it. The gathering of Isreal happens in 2 places Jackson County, MO. And Jerusalem.
