I had heard about the covering of the Christ picture but to actually see a photo of it is something else. I dont understand this. I am all for embracing diversity and encouraging others in their beliefs etc, but why the need to cover up or hide our own beliefs in the process? This reminds me of when Obama bowed to the Saudi king and apologized for America. Just seems wrong.
You think the members covered it up or those who were praying?

This is indeed shocking to us at first glance and disturbing. But Muslims take the commandment of no images very seriously if I understand correctly. You won't find a picture of any form of Allah or Mohammed in their services. They would probably cover any picture, this just happened to be of Jesus (probably).
This right here! Thanks justme!

Couple thoughts on this. 1. It's rude that someone took pictures of them praying. 2. I have never seen an LDS gym with that color in it, I don't think that is one of ours.

Well, good for them - and they are more than welcome to not have any images in their own buildings, and worship how they please in their own buildings. Coming into a dedicated LDS house of worship and covering up OUR pictures is something entirely different, and quite honestly, it makes me sick (regardless of what religion is doing it). If people don't see the issue here, then God help us all (only, he won't - see the scriptures I posted above). We, as a Church, will definitely get what we deserve.
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3).
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:36–37).
“For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, … shewing mercy unto … them that love me, and keep my commandments” (Exodus 20:5–6). The meaning of jealous is revealing. Its Hebrew origin means “possessing sensitive and deep feelings” (Exodus 20:5, footnote b). Thus we offend God when we “serve” other gods.
Exodus 23:24 Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them.
Mosiah 13:13 And again: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;
Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
Deut. 4:24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Deut. 6:15 (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
Joshua 24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
Mosiah 11:22 And it shall come to pass that they shall know that I am the Lord their God, and am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of my people.

I am actually trying to figure out which one would be worse. On the one hand, those people are a guest in our place of worship. I cannot fathom going into their mosques and redecorating as I see fit. On the other hand, if our people enabled such behavior, then I guess the message we are sending is that we are the one true church which means we are just a one size fits all church.....come on in and believe in whomever you please, pray to whichever vengeful God you wish, and redecorate however you see fit even if it disrespects the beliefs of those who built the building.

Just curious, does your Google not work? Also, what you glean from this is that the rude thing is someone took photos of MUSLIMS PRAYING TO THEIR FALSE GOD IN A DEDICATED LDS HOUSE OF WORSHIP??? I am speechless. Yes, the building is "one of ours" - and if you took a few minutes to research this yourself instead of being lazy and relying on others to do all the work for you, you would know that.

The members, with the approval of the stake president, covered the paintings of CHRIST in a dedicated LDS building. Again, do a little research on your own and you would know all this for yourself.

The LDS members covered the paintings of CHRIST in a dedicated LDS house of worship, so as not to "offend" the Muslims. This has happened several times in the last few years. I'm shocked this is a surprise to anyone or that so few members have heard of this happening.

Yes and no. When Constantinople fell to the Turks they captured what is now known as the Eye of Sophia but what was originally the Greek Orthodox cathedral central to their religion. Before converting it to a mosque they removed all paintings and icons from the walls except for a depiction of the infant Jesus and Mary.
Perhaps the influence of Wahhabism has created a much more conservative form of Islam. Just a few decades ago Muslim women could go about without hair coverings and nobody thought anything of it. Now things have gone much more conservative. I guess we have something in common with Islam indeed.

A vicar in England planned to cover a statue of Christ, and cover up crosses, as well as provide segregated rooms for Islamic prayer, for a joint celebration of Ramadan, until churchgoers and the diocese intervened.
"They realise that the vicar made a silly mistake, but I'm glad it happened because it raises in the public eye some important issues which people need to work through," he said. "Islam and Christianity are not Abrahamic cousins in Middle Eastern religion. They're actually antithetic to each other."
It's understood the event will go ahead, but prayers will be said elsewhere.
In a statement to Premier, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Durham said: "While it is vital to build good interfaith relations, it is clear that an act of worship from a non-Christian faith tradition is not permitted within a consecrated Church of England building."

I wonder when CHRIST'S patience and kindness will run out and his justice will kick in. Sooner or later, it will. Hopefully, we all will be in a repentant state by then. (And again, your constant sarcasm is not appreciated. Do you not have anything of substance to say? Incessant sarcasm is all you have?)

From the article Elizabeth posted:
"Quite the opposite. No amount of damage control can fix this one. In offering to “hide crosses”, the vicar demonstrated an appalling lack of integrity–most troubling as a church leader. He was inconsiderate of and insulting to congregants, ignorant of Islamic supremacist incursion into the UK, irreverent as a church leader and in complete violation of Canon law…."
I wish all Stake Presidents in Salt Lake had this much integrity.
Cover up pictures of Christ. Host Ramadan services. Sponsor LGBTQ pro-gay-marriage firesides.
This is not the Church of my ancestors, nor my youth.

My ideas on this whole picture-covering controversy are mixed. On the one hand, there is no such thing as a portrait of Christ - the depictions of Him are just guesses, and by assigning divine status to a particular image, we worship a man-made god.
On the other hand, once a group of Christians have decided that a certain picture represents Jesus, I think it is wrong for them to cover it to appease those not of their faith.

Are you serious? There is only one nude beach in Rio and it was only allowed in 2015. And how do bikinis get associated with sex and nudity??? You do realize that LDS youth activities involving swimming allow females to wear them I hope.

Couple thoughts on this. 1. It's rude that someone took pictures of them praying. 2. I have never seen an LDS gym with that color in it, I don't think that is one of ours.
How is it rude?
They pray in public, they blast their prayers from loud speakers from the center of a town when they eventually either convince local leadership to allow them to or they themselves become the leadership because so many migrate there. They themselves take pictures of them praying and post it. How is this rude?
2. I'ts literally our church dude, ldsliving reported on it. There are a MASSIVE variety of LDS church buildings that look different, have different floor plans, different carpet colors, don't have carpet at all etc.
