Woman accused of yelling "Stop protecting sexual predators" at General Conference sued by the Church

Question, would Jesus sue someone?
She does list herself as an 'activist' which is perhaps why the church is going after her. The church allows protests during conference at the designated area across from Temple Square near the Conference Center, at least they did when I lived in Salt Lake. Taking her to court should deter 'activists' from trying this stunt again. The church in recent years has not gone after members of the church that yell out in opposition to be 'noted'.
Woman accused of yelling, disrupting LDS General Conference to go on trial
A 24-year-old woman will be in court after she allegedly yelled three times during a session of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' General Conference.
Crystal Legionaires is facing one count of disrupting a meeting or procession, a class B misdemeanor, court documents state.
A witness told police that on March 30, 2018 he heard Legionaries yell loudly three times during the General Conference session.

This isn’t a civil suit, she is being charged with a misdemeanor crime by the civil authorities not the church.

That wasn't the question I posed though. The church could also sue her if they so choose. She wouldn't have been charged if the church didn't feel the need to get charges pressed against her, so this is the church.

She is being charged for disrupting a meeting. Whose meeting was it and who else would care to charge her? I don't understand why after all these interruptions they don't turn off the mics that allow these people a live voice around the world.

Anyone who self-identifies as an "activist" of any stripe shouldn't be jail but rather they should be involuntarily committed to a mental institution. I firmly believe the closing of state mental institutions under President Reagan in the 1980s is bearing it's fruit today in the form of the modern SJW movement and "activists" such as these.

The problem with that is since President Reagan, the Democrats have been in power most of the time, so they had full well opportunity to put the crazies BACK IN THE INSTITUTION.
So don't blame anything on President Reagan.

I guess you mean civil in the sense of not the religious sphere.
But in law there are basically two worlds that cover the entire earth. Civil and criminal. And if crimes are charged it would be the criminal or anti criminal authorities, and not the church.
Probably the SLC or county District Attorney.
There are a few rare situations where civil or private persons can bring criminal charges, but that is very rare.
As to whether or not the church controls the District Attorney today, I doubt it. I'm sure they may well think along the same lines.
California also has a crime of disturbing a religious meeting, and if anyone was ever charged with it, I don't know. But I'm sure if you went into the Islam meeting house and demanded to know why they want to behead queers, yelled out demanding to know, you may well be the first.
But it would be the police who turn it over to the City Attorney or District Attorney, in essence the criminal law of the area.

I say lock her up and throw away the key.
Or perhaps death row (firing squad of course).
Alternatively, just don't let her into conference again.

I'm not trying to blame Reagan specifically, just pointing out when this happened and the results since. I do think the state of mental heath institutions and professionals is over pretty deplorable. It's possible we just need an entirely new mental health system all together in this country it's so bad.

If she broke the law, then what is wrong with prosecuting her? I am all for it. Having worked in law enforcement for 27 years I have learned that letting crimes go unpunished and unadjudicated just leads to more crimes. Also, it appears that the rape her outburst was based on is in "alleged" status, so it really was done to be disruptive and mean.

Citizens do not "press charges." The DA's Office does that. Arnie can say he does not want anything done and the DA may or may not listen to his request (usually they do.)

It's not a "she", it's a "he".
Crystal Legionaires is a dude. Quit using "she" and "her" when referring to it.

Come on, is it a she or a he or a it? I am getting confused. And since when does a he, I mean a dude, call himself Crystal? That was taboo when I was young. Things are so strange.

How do you know? I haven't read anything about that, but it begs the question: What is the policy when it comes to "changing genders"? Does the church acknowledge whether or not males or females biologically can change it? If so, then does that mean that they allow a guy transitioning to a woman attend relief society, and would a woman who is changing to look male be allowed to carry the priesthood? Probably not yet, but I've always wondered what would happen if someone came and joined the church looking very much like a male, given the priesthood, and it was later discovered that the person "transitioned" some years before. I've never heard of such a thing happening, but at the rate things are going, I predict such a dilema is coming up, and soon,

SLC prosecutors reduce charges against woman who disrupted LDS General Conference
SALT LAKE CITY — As her case was headed to trial, prosecutors reduced the severity of charges against a woman accused of disrupting a session of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ General Conference.
The decision at a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday means Crystal Legionaries will not face the threat of jail time. Instead, the most she could face is a fine. Prosecutors dropped the charge of disrupting a public meeting from a class B misdemeanor to an infraction.
“In most misdemeanor prosecutions if we are not going to seek jail it’s our practice to just reduce them to infractions,” Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill, who oversees Salt Lake City’s prosecutors, told FOX 13. “It saves taxpayers money and costs of a jury without denying them their day in court. That’s our practice and this case is no exception.”
Supporters of Legionaires have questioned why Gill’s office leveled charges against her at all as they raised funds for her legal defense. During the April 2018 General Conference, Legionaires shouted “stop protecting sexual predators” at LDS officials. She was escorted from the Conference Center grounds and later charged by Salt Lake City prosecutors.

Ah, such "freedom" promoted by the members of the LDS Freedom Forum.

Yes.

Mile’s charges were mysteriously dismissed despite Bill Cartensen admitting to being one of the perpetrator along with Brenda Miles (Nelson’s daughter), who was “mostly the cheerleeder and took the videos” during the sexual abuse “parties.” (p. 15 & 20)

Remember when Nelson told us to take a “social media fast”? It was the same month that case involving him was brought up.
Also, there have been multiple similar reports like the following:
”The Mormon church has a “culture” that protects sexual predators, Johnson said during the press conference.
“There is a very real, horrendous problem in the church right now,” she said. “That problem is that sexual predators are more protected in the Mormon church than innocent children and vulnerable adults.”

Interesting. I didn't take part in the social media fast and I didn't see anything about it.
I have a very simple rule for this sort of thing: If sexual abuse is being committed against you, then go to the police. However, just be careful when you suspect abuse being committed because I can give you firsthand horror stories of lies, misunderstandings and innuendos put on a police report in order to bolster an already suspiciously weak case in order to manipulate a district attorney into filing charges.

Not that I want to see them, but for verification, have these videos been made public?
The reason I ask is it concerns me about jumping the gun on claiming someone is guilty when I haven't seen anything. Only heard the rumors. That game we used to play in school where the kids form a line, and start whispering in the ear of the first one, and they continue on down the line until the final kid gives a version that is completely different then the first kid? I've never forgotten that fun little lesson they taught us at school. Sometimes I wonder if it's more valuable then teaching math?
