Attributes of Righteous civilizations / People

Post by markharr »

What is the scriptural definition of a righteous society.
4-Nephi 1

2 And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, the people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites, and there were no contentions and disputations among them, and every man did deal justly one with another.

3 And they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift.

4 And it came to pass that the thirty and seventh year passed away also, and there still continued to be peace in the land.

5 And there were great and marvelous works wrought by the disciples of Jesus, insomuch that they did heal the sick, and raise the dead, and cause the lame to walk, and the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear; and all manner of miracles did they work among the children of men; and in nothing did they work miracles save it were in the name of Jesus.
Moses 7

17 The fear of the Lord was upon all nations, so great was the glory of the Lord, which was upon his people. And the Lord blessed the land, and they were blessed upon the mountains, and upon the high places, and did flourish.

18 And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.

19 And Enoch continued his preaching in righteousness unto the people of God. And it came to pass in his days, that he built a city that was called the City of Holiness, even Zion.

20 And it came to pass that Enoch talked with the Lord; and he said unto the Lord: Surely Zion shall dwell in safety forever. But the Lord said unto Enoch: Zion have I blessed, but the residue of the people have I cursed.
Righteous people first and foremost love one another. They are of one heart and one mind and therefore do not have internal strife because everybody's agenda is the agenda that is in the best interests of the community and not specific individuals trying to get gain over others

They do not hate or despise each other due to sin but they also don't justify sin.

There is no disease or suffering because the priesthood is so strong with them that they can heal the sick, and even raise the dead.

Everything they do is done in the name of the Savior

They do not have locks on their doors because they don't steal from one another

Their children roam freely and play wherever they want because there is no fear of sexual abuse

There are no poor because everyone is taken care of. Nobody tries to get gain over anybody else, everybody is on equal footing.

They don't have cycles of economic depression followed by prosperity because their economies are based on righteous principles. They just prosper and always prosper so long as they remain righteous.

They don't have droughts plagues or famines.

There is no pride.

They do not get invaded by enemies. They dwell in safety forever so long as they remain righteous because Good fights their battles for them. They have no need for standing armies.

There is no immorality and therefore no broken families.

There is no addiction to alcohol or other substances and no need for it because there is no mental anguish to self medicate away.

Every person is free. They don't keep slaves and don't use government dependence or debt to get gain over others.

Why don't we want that for ourselves?

Helaman 6

21 But behold, Satan did stir up the hearts of the more part of the Nephites, insomuch that they did unite with those bands of robbers, and did enter into their covenants and their oaths, that they would protect and preserve one another in whatsoever difficult circumstances they should be placed, that they should not suffer for their murders, and their plunderings, and their stealings.

22 And it came to pass that they did have their signs, yea, their secret signs, and their secret words; and this that they might distinguish a brother who had entered into the covenant, that whatsoever wickedness his brother should do he should not be injured by his brother, nor by those who did belong to his band, who had taken this covenant.

23 And thus they might murder, and plunder, and steal, and commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness, contrary to the laws of their country and also the laws of their God.

24 And whosoever of those who belonged to their band should reveal unto the world of their wickedness and their abominations, should be tried, not according to the laws of their country, but according to the laws of their wickedness, which had been given by Gadianton and Kishkumen.
Wicked people are prideful, they are always looking to elevate themselves over one another. This causes dissention.

They are always contending with one another in political, religious, and secular discourse.

The wicked infiltrate every aspect of society and protect each other from prosecution in their criminal acts. Laws are meaningless because nobody follows them.

Sexual immorality is prevalent, on full display and infests every aspect of their lives. nobody is safe from sexual assault.

Doors are locked, More and more resources are have to be diverted to security in order to protect your wealth.

It isn't safe for anyone let alone children to wander the streets.

Disease, is widespread

Famine, Droughts, Plagues and war are common

Standing armies required to maintain your borders from ever increasing foreign threats.

sin is justified. Those who point out sin are mocked, and stoned.

Economic depressions.

Widespread mental health problems

Everything is done in the name of the individual

Class warfare

Racial strife

The wealthy horde their wealth, in Nephi's time they buried it in the ground. The poor starve in the streets.

Why do we want this?
