Obedience Brings Not Only Knowledge, But Also Real Spiritual Power

Obedience brings not only knowledge, but also real spiritual power. The Lord preserves our agency, by making the pathway rocky, not easy. It takes real sustained effort to get real revelation sometimes(often I would say). Here are some examples regarding fasting and prayer.
Alma 17:3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.
Alma 5:46 Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me.
Here are more examples. Beautiful Queen Esther and her people fasted three days and nights for deliverance from the oppressive decrees of the Persian king, and they were delivered. (Esth. 4:16.)
Cornelius fasted when he wanted to know the truth, and Peter was sent to teach him the gospel. (Acts 10:30–33.)
Certain leaders in Antioch fasted to determine those who should be called and set apart as missionaries. (Acts 13:1–3.)

Matthew
Chapter 17:14 ¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
