"The number of planets in our galaxy alone could easily be in the hundreds of billions"

I never get tired of pondering the awesome framework that the Lord has given us in the latter days. Quite a lot actually about "things as they really are". There is endless space, and endless unorganized matter, yes, endless. Scientists continue to have their minds blown as new equipment allows them to see further and further into space. No wonder the Lord has said “Worlds without number have I created; . . . and by the Son I created them” (Moses 1:33) and D&C 76:112 And they shall be servants of the Most High; but where God and Christ dwell they cannot come, worlds without end. So it is, so it will be. Yet our Heavenly Father knows when a sparrow falls to earth. Matthew Chapter 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Perspective, perspective, and more perspective. This is good stuff, Worlds without Number By R. Val Johnson, Church Magazines.https://www.lds.org/study/ensign/2013/0 ... r?lang=eng

So, it's quite reasonable that we each get our own planet, maybe even 14.

Because our Heavenly Father refines His creations to their highest possible state, get ready to put on your ice skates to get around on the celestial earth of the future, like unto a sea of glass, a giant Urim and Thummim. Wait, that won't work, He dwells in everlasting burnings. Hummm! ;)

When Professor Frank Drake published his Drake equation, he estimated that 20% to 50% of stars would have planets. But as we develop better observational tools we find more planets, and we not believe that nearly all stars have planets. We also believe that each star with planets has significantly more than one. With an estimate of 250 billion stars in the galaxy there quite literally are hundreds of billions of planets.

A 2013 study of data from the Kepler space telescope estimated 40 billion earth-size planets[1], with 11 billion of these orbiting sun-like stars within the habitable zone, in the Milky Way[2]. And with an estimate of at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe, if the number of earth-size planets orbiting sun-like stars is pretty constant across all galaxies, there could be 1.1 sextillion earth-size planets orbiting sun-like stars in the observable universe. That's 1,100,000,000,000,000,000,000

Put simply, either rely on the Holy Ghost to guide you two together or give up.

After seeing references to the Drake equation being used to model other populations, I used it to estimate the number of women in the state of Utah I have a shot with. The numbers are pretty depressing.
The number of women in my preferred age range is 166,168.
Of these, 23.3% are either never married or divorced. Widows sealed to their late husbands are not acceptable to me.
78.8% are white. I did the interracial thing last time and don't want the additional struggles brought on by interracial relationships.
62% of the Utah population is LDS.
I have heard that about 40% of church membership is active and around half of active adult church members hold temple recommends.
I have a high IQ and need someone who can understand me so, for this exercise, I chose to restrict it to 20% of the population.
I find around 40% of the women I meet attractive enough to catch my eye.
Sadly, I find at best 1% of women I meet are willing to give me a chance.
President Kimball apparently said any two people trying to live the gospel can have a marriage, but I discussed this with a few church members who have doctorates in psychology or related fields and agree with their conclusion that we can only really be happy with about one third of people.

Putting this all together: 166,168 * 0.233 * 0.789 * 0.62 * 0.4 * 0.5 * 0.2 * 0.01 * 0.33 = 1.01.

In other words, there is one woman in the state I would have a shot with. And that's just having a shot with no guarantee of any kind of connection. The actual probability that she would be right for me is depressingly slim.

Anyway, let us hope we find our soul mates when we pass on. :)

It is offtopic but in my opinion (solely based on my experience) there is no such thing as a soul mate. Only working hard on a marriage exists. I could go into some details, but some people seem to be easily offended by opinions nowadays. :)

"According to Russell M. Nelson: Father, Surgeon, Apostle, President Nelson met his wife, Dantzel, at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah campus in 1942. He was asked to participate in the musical Hayfoot, where Dantzel was cast in a leading role. While Dantzel was singing on stage, President Nelson was overwhelmed by her beautiful soprano voice. After meeting her in the musical production, President Nelson felt that this beautiful young woman might someday become his wife. President Nelson recalled, “My attention for her was so immediate and so compelling. I find it very easy to believe that my affinity for her may have been established in a holier pre-mortal sphere.”

Yeah. So did I feel, when I met my wife, and I'm pretty sure a lot of men feel the same way when they see or meet someone who makes a great impression on them.

Maybe that's part of the plan. Aren't you married anyway?

I wouldn't be too worried about marrying your soul mate. You can find a soul mate and be friends with them. I'll have to think more about this to figure out how you can find a soul mate.
