Latter-day saint posts abortion poll on Facebook, gets swarmed by "rabid" trolls

You may remember the SLC cop who asked to switch shifts or duties with another cop because he didn't want to participate in the gay pride parade several years back (he was willing to provide security to protect the free speech but didn't want to be an active participant in the parade itself as part of the motorcycle squad, or whatever it's called). Switching was common practice, but his leadership denied it and tried to force him against his deeply held religious beliefs. They ended up parting ways, to put it mildly. It made national and international news, and helped bring attention to a SLC leadership pattern of bigotry against the religious, and especially the restored church of Jesus Christ.
Anyway, he posted a poll on Facebook a couple days ago that asks this question:
Do you believe men should be able to speak out against abortion? I want to get more than just my FB friends on here, so please share the poll. Be nice people. You can argue your point without name calling.

When the poll had gained about 500 responses, it was 95% yes and 5% no.
Then someone shared it with a pseudo-feminist group. It quickly (within a few hours) gained several thousand votes and went about 35% yes 65% no.
Then pro-lifers really started sharing, and it went about 55% yes and 45% no.
The deathers have upped their game and it's now at about 48% no and 52% yes, with 54,000 votes, 3800 Comments, and
1100 Shares.
The comments became a cesspool of hate speech, ad hominem attacks, and "I wish you were dead" comments.
As usual, the majority of the sensible, civil comments came from pro-lifers. There were a few sane comments from deathers, but I would say the vast majority so far have been uncivil to say the least. Many of the comments were deleted and the trolls blocked, says the OP, and I don't blame him based on a lot of what I read.
So, two questions and one ask.
1. Why is it that issues like this cause "feminists" (in quotes because there's nothing feminine about what they're doing) to behave like ravenous hyenas?
2. Do you believe that men should be free to voice an opinion on abortion?
The ask is if you'll consider voting on the poll and sharing it.
