Utah #1 in USA for Ponzi schemes - and how it relates to the latter-days

Utah is by far the worst state in the country for Ponzi schemes.
Affinity fraud is a huge winner.

"Though commonly called 'affinity fraud,' it's more of a way for con artists to market their scams to people in their communities. They exploit their close personal relationships, whether it's in business or more likely through neighborhood or religious associations.
Maglich said many perpetrate the scheme by getting the blessing or participation of those who share their faith and use it as a distribution and solicitation network."

I feel like a big reason this works in Utah is the same reason MLM has had such a strong foothold in Utah, whatever those reasons truly are.

I just wanted to say that this has a parallel in the church. There are fraudsters all over in the church who use their membership in the group and connections with "important people" to gain trust. They make use of that trust to teach lies. I believe that there are several huge frauds going on in the church culture right now, and that several of them have at least a large portion of their root lodged in my hometown of Provo at BYU.

This is happening in at least the following areas:
The SSA debate.
Book of Mormon geography (this one has been going on for decades).
Science.
Debates relevant to psychology and brain science (immodesty, pornography, SSA, etc.)
Pseudo-feminism.
Socialism.
etc.

Today, I had the distinct impression that perhaps a major pivot in the latter-day scene will be when temple sealers co-opt authority they don't have and perform same-sex marriage sealings in the temple. That would be a fitting "fruit" of all the doctrine fraud going on at BYU. I hope this doesn't happen, but I believe that it may. How can it not, with the speed at which the false doctrines are being pounded into every ear?

Depending on how that unfolded, I could see the Salt Lake Tribune publishing an article before the church has had a chance to respond, and the article going something like this, "Temple Sealer Performs Same-sex Sealing at Temple. Church's Position on SSM Reversed!"

With that then followed by a massive celebration by many members of the church.

With that then followed by an official announcement by the church leadership that no such sealing was authorized, that the church's official doctrine on chastity has not and will not change, and that the sealer has been excommunicated.

With that then followed by a MASSIVE break in the church, with a division like has never before been seen, with the winnowing nearing its final stage.

All brought about by fraud.

As I often do, I hope I'm wrong.

These are the thoughts in the mind of a man who hungers to hear the servants of Christ teach the doctrine of chastity with greater clarity and greater power than ever before, in a unified and very direct way, leaving ZERO room for anybody to wonder what is and isn't official doctrine.

I feel the same way. There are several people on YouTube who speak out against homosexuality and abortion very directly. Not like, throw gays off the roof and kill the abortion doctors, of course. But a strong plea that we quit embracing Satan's lies. I wish I heard this in my ward and stake, instead of so much prosperity gospel and secular humanism.

What? Prosperity gospel? Yes. At a recent ward conference, our Stake President told about all the wealthy people who had joined the church about 30 years ago in a neighboring city, and are now in leadership in their Stakes and the Temple. He told us that we all lived in nice neighborhoods, and worked with affluent people, and we needed to make a great effort to convert them to the church, because the church needs more people like us. Are you freakin kidding me????

First of all, my ward is middle class, with only a few wealthy people, and more than a few in trailer homes, or very moderate houses or apartments. Second, the Stake President is somewhat wealthy, and I'm wondering how many of his friends and neighbors have joined the Church. I left with a very bad feeling. Why can't they just teach of Christ? What's with the sales pitch?

It's sad when you hope there are no investigors in the congregation.

Having worked for 3 different MLM's, I think some of them get a bad rep.(Like Nuskin shouldn't be in the same sentence as anti depressants, suicides and bankruptcy.)
Some of them are absolute trash, but yeah. Maybe I'm alone in this camp but idc :D

Shortly before I came to one of my wards, the bishop or SP in ward council told everyone they needed to stop getting poor mormons because they have enough of those. They need to focus on "the high hanging fruit." I was surprised by this, but it's interesting to hear this must be an initiative of the church. I have since heard things that make me believe this actually occurred (other than the first hand witness of the original meeting.)
