Sex Parties, Drugs and Gay Escorts at the Pope's Residence: Undercover in the Vatican
French writer Frédéric Martel, whose new book exposes the sexual secrets of the Vatican, explains how the moral rot of the Catholic Church is rooted in its clergy's repressed homosexuality
“I identify the cause of the catastrophe in the sexual-liberation revolution, which made the Church even more homosexual and at the same time even more homophobic and even more in denial of its own naked truth. I believe that now, with the exposure of so many cases of sexual abuse, pedophilia and sexual corruption within the Church, that it has reached a point of no return. Something has to change drastically. But it’s not clear to me how anything can be changed there.”

Freud would be able to psychoanalyze the whole situation. Yet as long as the doctrine of celibacy remains...

We LDS say we don't believe in celibacy. However, the members at Mormons Building Bridges are saying that's what Elder Anderson told the gay members of the church to do, meaning be celibate for life. Of course they completely denounce this solution, and call it out as anti-Mormon doctrine. Their answer is, of course, gay marriage, and also gay sealings, so that all members have the same opportunities in the Church.
We are now in a religious/political climate where one can't tell gays that their sexual orientation may be healed through faith in Christ, and one can't suggest a mixed-orientation marriage, because both of these imply that there's something "wrong" with homosexuality. This has created a binary situation. One must preach celibacy for life, or that gay marriage is accepted by the Church (and by God). The middle ground has been removed.

Doctrine & Covenants 49
And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God, for marriage is ordained of God unto man.
Celibacy is a doctrine of the devil and misery loves company.

Whenever I get depressed at how ridiculous our own church history makes us seem.......I then thank Heaven for the Catholic Church which makes our problems seem like child's play.....no pun intended.

Give us 2000 years of history, and maybe there wouldn't be much difference between us.

I've thought about this quite a bit actually! I can imagine that the only explanation in 2000 years from now for what Joseph Smith was able to accomplish is that he was the son of God. Magic rocks in hats and plates that nobody else can see and identifying random bones as a guy named Zelph who was a Jaredite thousands of years prior etc......the only explanation is that he himself was the Son of God or that he had the power of Beezelbub.....just like has been said of Christ for 2000 years now.
