2019 April General Conference Change
Well, a "friend of a friend" received her mission call and within the call it states:
""You will be serving for the amount of time that will be announced in the coming general conference.""
So...there is one change coming. Interesting!

Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
I fear if they change women's callings to 2 years it will add more fuel to the PC meltdown. That said, perhaps that's what the Lord wants.

I believe they are more likely to change men's callings to 18 months.

Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
My first impression was shortened missions, but Mr Dr LDS Physician said "her"
If the gathering of Israel is the new prime directive, would that mean shorter or longer calls? I would think longer calls may be justified if we're targeting areas like Russia that appear to have a cross section of lost tribes.
Shorter calls may be justified if the youth are going to be engaging in something else.

I want to see an image of these notices. And I would much prefer a source more direct than "friend of a friend" as well.LDS Physician wrote: ↑March 25th, 2019, 2:46 pm Well, a "friend of a friend" received her mission call and within the call it states:

Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
Complete hoax going around. I personally know several kids that have received calls, including my son, in the last few weeks that state a time frame for the call. Not one person, not here, not twitter, facebook, etc... that has heard of the "time to be stated at general conference" mission call has posted any picture of said call. This rumor went around like wildfire the last conference with the same, my friend's, friend's kid's call type innuendo and nothing happened. The only bigger hoax around is that Trump colluded with Russia and we see how that just turned out and I predict the same thing here.

Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
My nephew was telling us about mission calls to members of his stake to South Africa that were for an indefinite period of time. That pretty much goes along with the subject of this thread.
Might it be that they will be issuing shorter terms so that the missionaries will return home before the crap hits the fan... what about that?
You know what President Nelson said in 2018... "Wait till next year and then the next year"...

I agree. I don't have access. The person who reported it to me is a missionary from my ward and the person receiving the call is a sister in the ward where he is serving. Interesting, but we all know how third-person quotes can go...could be untrue!gkearney wrote: ↑March 25th, 2019, 4:05 pmI want to see an image of these notices. Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
Not this again! These rumors are popping up more frequently.
I work for the Missionary Department. I helped write the software for the online mission calls. Neither I, nor anyone on my team that I know of has made any changes to the call letter that says, "You will be serving for the amount of time that will be announced in the coming general conference."
Last conference the rumor was that the call location would be announced in General Conference, and this conference it has morphed into the length of the mission.
We have not been asked to make any changes to the call letters, nor to the amount of time that missionaries serve.

How unfortunate for you though that I'm not naive enough to believe everything I read on the internet and that I do my due diligence and research first while trying to authenticate what I learn.

I can't speak for Alaris but I got a little kick out of your comment too simply because of your participation in the LDS rumor mill such as the WoW change etc.Col. Flagg wrote: ↑March 26th, 2019, 11:40 am![]()

No offense intended. I thought there was a good chance you were intending to be funny due to the lists of rumors you've supplied as shadow pointed out.Col. Flagg wrote: ↑March 26th, 2019, 11:40 am![]()

A local kid opened his call tonight. 24 months is what it said. He was disappointed to learn he wasn't one of those chosen to find out about his call at GC.

Re: 2019 April General Conference Change
We were talking about these rumors the other day with my family and apparently, a young man my father-in-law knows recently served a full mission for the period of 2 transfers and was then sent home honorably. It does seem like they are piloting shorter missions. They were a bit confused because there was no explanation for this.
Based on our conversation there was speculation that the church may be moving away from set mission durations of 18 months or 2 years and maybe calling people for specified amounts of time tailored to the individual, their circumstances, the mission circumstances, and what kind of mission they will be on.
This would provide greater flexibility in many ways. There are definitely missions that have been piloting some things and it is just a matter of time before there are more changes in this regard.
Notice that we have been moving away from these big, broad brush approaches to solving things in the church, such as ministering. Everything is becoming more individualized which I think is good in many respects.

You can come home early for a variety of medical issues and receive an honorable release.5tev3 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2019, 3:28 pm We were talking about these rumors the other day with my family and apparently, a young man my father-in-law knows recently served a full mission for the period of 2 transfers and was then sent home honorably.
