Ethnic Diversity

Post by Dusty52 »

I would be interested in finding out the ethnic background of the people in this forum and especially in this gospel discussions thread

I am Caucasian. The vast majority of my ancestors were from the British Isles (mostly England, but a few from Scotland, Wales, and Ireland); then, France, Switzerland, Germany, and one GGG-grandma from Spain.

I would imagine most of us are Caucasian on here, but I wonder why?

It's a lineage thing.

5 Wherefore, Joseph truly saw our day. And he obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins the Lord God would raise up a righteous branch unto the house of Israel; not the Messiah, but a branch which was to be broken off, nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord that the Messiah should be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the spirit of power, unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light—yea, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity unto freedom.

My guess is because this is an English-speaking, freedom-loving forum, based out of the western United States (Utah, to be specific), even though it is open to anyone, anywhere in the world (I assume). The vast majority of English-speaking LDS people in the United States (and in other freedom-loving areas of the world) are Caucasian, I believe.

Check out this thread, shows how some of us are related: viewtopic.php?t=42485 (so far no one closer than a 5th cousin to me).

My ancestors are European.

Maybe people on here are from perhaps 2 or 3 of the same tribes of Israel, I wonder what significance there is in that!

Here is a poll of forum member's tribes - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=35251&p=909140&hil ... om#p909140

At that time it was 88% from Ephraim - 4% Judah - 4% Manasseh - 2% Dan - 1% Issachar

One of the things we should be doing:
"One of the tools to be used in the gathering is the Book of Mormon, also known among Latter-day Saints as the stick of Joseph or the stick of Ephraim (Ezek. 37:15-19; 2 Ne. 3:12; D&C 27:5). It is to play an important part in convincing Lamanites, Jews, and Gentiles that Jesus is the messiah and that God does remember his covenant people" Source BYU

The gathering has been done away with...

My maternal grandmother is a Latina from Tejas and my grandfather is Norwegian from Minnesota (Thanks US Navy). The Norwegian line married into a couple Native American tribes like Shawnee and Mowhawk. My paternal grandmother is half Oglala Sioux and Italian and my grandfather is English (they happen to both be from Minnesota as well).

One of the big downsides of being so mixed is the loss of and strong culture or traditions; you don't really feel like you belong anywhere and to any people. So for me at least, I claim the Latter-day Saints as my people.

I’m a white guy born and raised in the land of Texas, I live elsewhere now but I have to return at least once a year to replenish my strength from breathing the Texas air and walking on Texas dirt.

The majority of the people on this forum have common ancestors from the 17th or 18th centuries. We’re related. We’re all part of the literal family of Jesus (through Mary Magdalene who was a descendent of Joseph) that was promised to be part of the the great latter-day birthright. It’s in our blood to care about the issues we care about. We obviously see things differently. We’re the modern chosen people.
