Why are you here?
I don't mean why are you on LDSFF.
I mean why are you here on earth? Why did you choose to come to earth and get a body?
I see some people who came to earth as tourists: their ultimate goal in life seems to be travel.
Others seem to have come as a vacation. They have no desire to work, just play..
Others seem to have come to work. Not in a good way, just a workaholic.
Others seem to have come to gather trivia. They spend their whole lives learning, but never coming to a knowledge of the truth.
I came to take part in the Plan of Salvation, be a wife and mother, and become like my Heavenly Parents.
I'm sure I haven't even begun to exhaust the options. So, why did you come?

Re: Why are you here?
I came to Earth to learn and gain the faith and skills I need to grow up to be like my Heavenly Father and Mother and be able to live where and how they live...like going off to school.
I also came to be a light and a guide to others, as much as I possibly can. This includes my role as wife and mother.

I came to have joy and to gain immortality and eternal life. But the journey is fraught with distractions and perils.

I came to be with family and be with them forever. To gain and body and help some of them get a body and help them along the way.

I came because I chose to follow Christs plan, I received a body and agency. I must have been a valiant spirit because
I wasn't born and raised in Utah.

Re: Why are you here?
None of us knows for sure why, but we all have in common the belief that we kept our first estate and were willing to be tried and tempted in the mortal realm to prove ourselves worthy to return to the presence of God and receive our second estates.
I am here currently to have joy, to enjoy my earthly experience, to grow and nurture my relationship with my wife and my kids, to excel in my professional career, to have as much sex with my wife as I possibly can, to teach my kids the best I can according to the wisdom of my own experience and the gospel truths so they can also live a blessed life.

Re: Why are you here?
This is funny.
Not calling you out, just pointing out a trend, how often people point out their disassociation with Utah as a way to build credibility.
As sort of, "I'm not one of -those- Mormons."
Another funny thing, how many of us weren't born or raised in Utah and yet get lumped by current location.
Having lived most of my life outside of Utah (I came for BYU and we haven't left yet..) The reality is, and it has less to do with "Utah Mormons" and more to do with "Cultural Mormons, " as opposed to of "Faithful Disciples of Christ who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
I've met "Cultural Mormons" all over the world, so it isn't location, except that you will find a higher concentration in Utah because of family ties.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. Basically, it's made up of two separate words — "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind. - Jack Handey

Re: Why are you here?
I agree with this. I wasn't born or raised in Utah. My husband was and his whole family is here. I heard talk from people how bad Utah Mormons are. My nephew pretty much stopped talking to me because I married a Utah boy. My home ward was split between Utah is Heaven and they wished they were there and Utah sucks.Michelle wrote: ↑March 14th, 2019, 12:33 pmThis is funny.

Re: Why are you here?
to learn to be like Jesus.
to learn what Love is,
and then, like Jesus, be an example to others of that Love.
To overcome the flesh, and to be born again of the spirit.
To come to know the atoning sacrifice of our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ
who died for us and who is THE perfect example for us to follow.
"what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am"
3 Nephi 27:27
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect"
Matthew 5:48
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Moses 1:39

Re: Why are you here?
This is such a brilliant question.
Actually, it's something I've thought about a lot, but in a different way.
I've wondered what I was like in the world of spirits and what my primary motivation was for choosing the plan of the Father instead of the plan of the adversary.
I've wondered how tempted I felt to go the wrong way, and whether I strayed for a time and then came back. I've wondered if I never faltered then but was faithful and true through it all.
I have no idea why I chose to come here, but I know why I'm choosing His plan here and now. It's one reason and one reason alone: I am thankful for and love Jesus of Nazareth, my Savior and advocate with the Father. No other factor has been sufficiently motivating for me. I know to some extent what He did for me...not just "know" as in "I read about it," but as in "I have sacred personal experience with it."
I suspect that in a similar way, He was my reason for choosing the plan of the Father in the first instance.

Too often I think I'm here to suffer. I couldn't even have a pleasant time in a temple this evening.

Re: Why are you here?
I love this thread because we're going through a rough time right now and I mentioned it to my husband and we both agreed we feel like we came here to get a body and now we're just waiting to die.
Kind of eye opening.

Re: Why are you here?
There are many reasons why I have come but to find the one point... it is to fulfill what I was ask to come here for. Then, in the end, to give my life as a testimony and witness of being sent. A trial run for things to come, practice makes perfect so they say! (read the Revelation 6:9-12, KJV, see below)
While here I have needed to remember, how many weaknesses I actually have, and my complete nothingness before G_d. I stand in the nursery barely able to walk, and that only makes me more capable of messing up on a larger scale!
My naivety is legendary... I see others and never stop to think they have different values and commitments. I am almost always disappointed!
This OP question is most pointed when I look around and wonder were have all the adults gone? Zion is but a dream to most people, lacking any willingness to live those laws we were commanded to keep that we might build Zion upon this continent, in this time period, just prior to the return of the true King! He's coming to a wedding, how many of us are making are garments ready, and plans to attend?
Do not think that I alone will be placed upon that altar!
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them (the were sealed to come forth as Third Estate Beings); and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants (other Second Estate Beings) also and their brethren (Fourth Estate Beings), that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled (the Two Witnesses, being set as a type).
