But since we found that Salt Lake City had about 24 plastic surgeons per 100,000 people, we thought it still deserved a pretty high spot in our survey.

Salt Lake City probably has the least amount of "mormons" per capita than any other city in Utah, currently at about 20% LDS. In fact, Salt Lake County is only about 50/50 at best.

I served a mission and I didn't know anyone, from Utah or anywhere else, who had a picture of a GA in their wallet.

The most arrogant missionaries I served with were from Texas, California and Utah, but the Utah one wasn't originally from Utah- his family moved there from California while he was in the military. So basically 2 from Cali. The laziest comp I had was from Florida. The best example of unrighteous dominion came from an Elder from Oklahoma.

I would love to have my stomach fixed from having babies. I will never get my flat abs back without medical help. They separated with my first baby. My husband loves me and says he doesn't care. I DO. I hate that I will never look the way I want to again. I can go to gym and eat right and will never get what I want. I know several women who feel the same. It's not their husband's, it's them wanting it done.

I can't speak for everyone, but the people I know who had braces did so for dental/health reasons, not cosmetic (although that was a by-product, obviously). Their bite was off so much that it was damaging their other teeth, plus, giving them TMJ and headaches. So there are legit medical reasons for having braces (some may be done solely for vanity though, who knows).

My husband and I are both in braces (well, Invisalign) for the second time. Mine are purely for cosmetic reasons...I used to have beautiful teeth, but they had shifted over the years and bothered me (vanity, I guess), his because the dentist said if he didn't restraighten his bottom teeth they were going to start falling out because they were crowding so much. The first time I had them as a child it was for functional reasons...but there were definitely cosmetic benefits. Now if I had only worn my retainer I could have saved myself a lot of money and inconvenience...my husband too!

You may be on to something!

While at BYU, I had the opportunity of spending a few hours talking with a long haul trucker passing through Provo. He was Jewish with his home base in NYC. He always made it a point to drive through Provo because, as he claimed, LDS young women were the most beautiful in the United States.

We got onto the subject of regional cooking. He felt Utah was a dismal failure as far as cuisine was concerned. I lived in Utah for nearly ten years, but came from Oregon. My taste in food was a lot different than what I found in Utah. The one unique Utah dish, for me, was fresh strawberry pies. I haven't found any to equal those found in Utah. My trucker buddy had to agree that Utah's fresh strawberry pies were the state's culinary standout!

Why are Utahns so vain? It's caused by the thin air permeated with smoke, smog, dust and old particles of copper from the tailings, crud from the old Geneva steel mill, and all this gets into their brains and causes them to become prideful, less humble, contrite and broken hearted.

I did not grow up in Utah. I met a good friend when I was in the singles ward in my 20's and he joined the church and started coming to my singles ward with me. He met a blond girl who was from Utah. They began dating seriously. She became depressed and wanted to move back to Utah. He loved her so he went with her and they got married.

He is the type to "share the dirty laundry" with me constantly about his in-laws. He makes good money in his craft, and his wife's parents are in debt. Mind you, they have a 5 bedroom home, cars, boats, etc but they are up to their eyeballs in debt. They can't qualify for loans anymore so they hit up my friend and his wife for money CONSTANTLY. His wife gives him a hard time if he tries to resist. So of course he's "loaned" his father in law well over $25k over the last several years, none of which he will ever get back. My friend bought a BMW.....and suddenly his father in law started angling for a BMW. He couldnt afford to pay for his son's college education after he came off a mission, but sure enough he ended up getting his BMW to keep up with his son-in-law. He is also a BISHOP now.

That of course is no surprise. They watch TV just like everyone else in this toxic culture. The human brain is an amazing instrument. It allows us to be creative, analytical and strive for better than being brute savages. However, we are a story-telling species. Sadly, our stories and epics are no longer reserved for the campfire or special religious ceremonies but rather they are created by the most dysfunctional piece of real estate on the planet - Hollywood. And to top it off, our subconscious does not filter out reality as opposed to fiction; the cortex does that. However, when we hear stories our emotions go into play. And Hollywood knows that. Maybe this is why we went from a culture in which even the left held certain moral principles (i.e. family unity, pride in country, etc.) to where now even conservatives find excuses to indulge in immorality or to avoid marriage and family. Ever wonder why depression rates are correlated to time with media - the the past, TV and now TV and social media? People cannot live up to the fake world they judge themselves by. Mormons are no exception. Unless they ween themselves off the breast with the flat screen and remote they will see themselves as inadequate and failures. People need to live within their means, work to have strong families and maintain faith in God. TV does not teach those messages, it is a fantasy that people subconsciously believe in. Not saying porn is good but at least most people who view it do not believe that is the way people behave in real life. They know it is a fantasy, although too many begin to wish to experiment. Of course, same could be said of TV viewing. Maybe people in Utah should cut back and eventually stop watching TV and porn. What do you think would happen to life there?

I don't know why there is such a desire to bash Utah. I'm a Texan, I've never lived there but I don't think it is wise to judge an entire state because of the vocal actions of a few. I dunno, I live in Louisiana, and there have been some pretty scary and I'd even say inedible dishes at ward social events here...maybe it's a Mormon thing more than a state thing.

You can always count on good gumbo, though.
