Praying to find Lost Keys!

Post by Dusty52 »

When I was a boy my father used to lose his car keys now and again, he would always pray about it and he would always find them, seems strange to me that this would happen, anyone else experienced this?

So prayer is your target today? I pray often, but mostly expressing gratitude. I’ll find my keys later......

You being facetious? Athiests love to point out how Christians pray and believe God helped them find their keys but didn't bother to save the victims of the Holocaust.

My daughter is God's favorite because if she prays, the item will be found. I just don't have her faith and I struggle with prayer.
However, I do have a great story about prayer. Once I went to visit a family member or of state who lived in a scary part of town. I had never been there. My phone was on the fritz and right after I entered the neighborhood, it died and took my gps with it. I was basically lost. I remembered President Eyring's story about his dad praying at every intersection to find a church in Australia and figured it couldn't hurt. So I mustered up less then a mustard seed of faith, I prayed at every intersection and IT WORKED!!!! I got there directly, no turning around. I am dumbfounded to this day. But I am confident God answers prayers.

I think the Lord does help those who help themselves
He might go out of his way to help you once if your phone has died, but he won't keep doing it if your phone keeps dying and you don't bother to buy an external battery pack or invest in a map! There is a limit, you can't expect him to continually bail you out of every situation, you need to learn things for yourself!
Saying that because of his love for us I think he will always bail us out if he can and if we haven't stepped over a line!

Maybe answering the little prayers like finding lost keys are really just training experiences for learning to recognize inspired guidance and revelation. Maybe God is expecting you to take what you learned from finding a lost item and use it to do bigger things by the Spirit.

Yes, I have had this happen to me.
Also happened with my wedding ring.

I sometimes ask if there is a lesson in something. One day my husband had us all in the car to go to church before realizing his keys were gone. A few minutes turned into twenty. Everyone out of the car. We didn't find the keys. We missed church. I had an inner knowing that this loss of keys was symbolic of something I needed to repent of; because I was having bitterness about even believing in God at all, when after all He does allow bad things to happen. Maybe it would be better if He wasn't real and maybe trusting in Him was a waste of time anyway.

I didn't want to repent though. But as the day went by and we still hadn't found them, I began to worry my husband would miss work. It began to dawn on me that Heavenly Father knew exactly where those keys were, and if I didn't want to trust Him that was fine by Him. Maybe I didn't realize that while bad things happen, He still is in control of everything we go through every single day, and it better to trust Him then get mad when things go wrong.

I prayed that at least let us find them before tomorrow so I could have peace of mind about work tomorrow.

My heart softened and I began to repent of my bitterness, but still no keys. I prayed and sincerely told Heavenly Father I am sorry for not believing in Him, because He surely does have control over all things, it is better to accept bad things and trust in the Lord to get through them, then to turn and become bitter.

I had just brushed my teeth and was about to hop into bed when I rememberd to change out the laundry.

When I went into the laundry room, I noticed the old diaper pail I hadn't opened in a year. I remembered we had a two year old. So I looked in it, and there, along with some mildew, I found the keys.

It was the very last thing I did that day, but Heavenly Father answered my prayer to find them before morning. And I knew it was on the condition of me changing my heart. I was humbled.

I havea strong testimony of many things, and I've been blessed with communication and guidance regarding equally many things. Finding lost things, however, isn't one of them, especially not after getting married and having children. Things disappear and stay disappeared and no amount of prayer has ever helped, except probably once at some point in family history. I've mostly stopped trying to pray to find things.

Absolutely. Over the years my kids and I have employed this method from time to time, and we haven't failed yet. It's made me wonder why it's so hard to get answers to my other prayers.

This has happened to me. I agree with the comment that it is training. However, I kind of had the training in reverse and then learned God will help me find car keys if he wants me to.

It's not about the keys, its never been about the keys!
Do you really think God is interested in helping me or anyone else find keys, no of course not, that's not what this post is about, it's the principle
I don't want to be part of a religion that thinks that God would be interested in such meaningless triviality and that we can waste his time with such nonsense that doesn't really matter
Pray to God about how you can make a difference in someone's life!

what if finding the keys is a necessary part of making a difference in someone else's life, even your own. By small and simple means...

So you subscribe to a limited God who doesn't have a lot of time... nor presumably money (time is money, after all). Why do you have all these gripes with the church then?

If God cares about the hair on your head (see New Testament) then He will care about your keys. It is sad that we think that God "doesn't care" about "trivial" things in life. He loves us. He bore all our sorrows - including the sorrow of losing keys - as ridiculous as it may sound to you - he did because He loves us. Too often we put God in a box and say He doesn't care about certain things. He cares about all that we care about and desires us to return to Him because He loves us. He cares about us obtaining eternal life. If us praying about keys and finding them helps us to develop greater faith in Christ and our Father in Heaven and is beneficial for us, He will answer that prayer and we will find the Keys. He wants us to maintain that relationship. THere are myriad of reasons why the Lord cares and would answer. The Lord is so much more merciful than we understand. This is basic faith. We are to ask the Lord to sanctify EVERY action we take. So the true principle is that God does love us - in all parts of our life because we are His children. Our problem is that we don't access the blessings of Heaven because we don't ask - we assume and put God in a box and because of our unbelief damn ourselves to the current state we are in. This is why the Lord said to not ask for things to consume it upon our lusts - it would damn us. Our hearts are to be turned to Him fully and entirely in all things i.e. remember Him always. So no, there is nothing wrong praying to the Lord to ask about and for keys. An evil Spirit teaches man that he should not pray. So my suggestion is for you to re-evaluate who God is and develop a true faith in His character. Eventually the SPirit itself will teach you all things you should pray for and ask for, but unequivocally, there are times the Lord wants us to pray for our keys - if only to remind us to actually seek Him in this Life and in all things. That is my testimony and I believe it to be truth and it is.

Does he care about those in real need or does he care about my keys??
Why will he help me find my keys but not help someone find a scrap of bread? or a mouthful of water?
With prayer there is one rule for us and another rule for all others!

No He answers all that seek Him with faith. Time isn't a factor with God. He can answer all at the same time. Sometimes the bread or the keys aren't necessary at the time because God wants something else from you. All you need to worry about is are you willing to submit to Him and His will for you. Prayer is equal for all, but as you develop more faith and follow the Spirit more, prayer becomes more powerful because you truly pray in the name of Jesus Christ rather than in you own name. God cares about all, it isn't an either or. Lectures on Faith might be good for you to read sincerely. Additionally, we must actually be willing to become His disciples again His goal is for us to obtain eternal life.

The keys aren't lost, God has them and as President Nelson says, the restoration is ongoing. "Wait till next yare and the next year, (2020) take your vitamin pill, get your rest, it's going to be exciting"...

When Christ comes as the Bridegroom he will bring all things together in one, then we'll have the fullness of all things... I can feel it coming, do you?
