Re: Entire First Pres. Q of 12 to attend Rome Temple dedication
They are called to be witnesses of His name to all the world... that includes to the Catholic Pope. The message they carry and the Spirit of their mantle needed to be present in that place as a witness of the Savior. That they did it in a kind and loving way is appropriate given the guidance in the DC.
One day we will look back at this as a pivotal time in the sequence of events leading up to the second coming. Good stuff.

Re: Entire First Pres. Q of 12 to attend Rome Temple dedication
In choice of decor, I wouldn't jump to them having anything like "idols" just yet. My first thoughts are first, as mentioned, a sign of the twelve apostles both ancient and modern represented in the photo. Given the attention they've given it, it was probably intentional that this room was so decorated for it. Second, it is perhaps a means of resonating with the people who live in that area. A temple laden with images representing various figures in scirptural history who aren't Christ would be as distractingly strange to Americans as a temple completely devoid of any representations of New Testament people besides Christ may be.

Re: Entire First Pres. Q of 12 to attend Rome Temple dedication
I am quite uncomfortable with these graven images. I don't even think the Christus statue is appropriate to be honest.
Also, these aren't statues of the original apostles; there is no Judas Iscariot. He has been replaced by Paul, but that is not how it happened in the historical narrative. Judas was replaced by Matthias.
Not only that, but only two of the apostles (Peter and Paul) ever came to Rome as far as we know, so when you think about it there isn't really a justification to have these statues installed in Rome any more than there would be in London (tradition says John the Revelator came to England).
It is also the case that Paul was probably never an Apostle, but was in fact a Seventy (they were referred to as "the Seventy Apostles" in NT times).

Nah, we don't worship dead apostles... We have living ones to follow... All is well.Obrien wrote: ↑March 10th, 2019, 8:13 pmShadow - the thought that immediately came to mind upon viewing the statue of Christ with the ancient apostles in the background was of the inside of a Catholic Church. They've typically got idols statues of old saints prominently displayed throughout the building. The similarity was striking... It seems we are taking the same path as the GAC.

Your use of the words "worship" and "follow" is quite interesting in this post.caburnha wrote: ↑March 11th, 2019, 9:19 amNah, we don't worship dead apostles... We have living ones to follow... you can! and it is probably much higher quality than if you printed it at home or attempted to frame it on your own.. If they were just wanting money for it they would make the image so you cant download it and print it as almost all digital photos online are. It seems like a tired point to me to comment on things costing money...Lizzy60 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 4:19 pm https://www.deseretnews.com/purchase/photo_700679710

Read more carefully. The $25+tax is NOT for a framed photo. It is for a download to your computer. Then for another fee you can print out ONE copy, that you can then frame if you so desire.Shaffer89 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 4:44 pmyou can! and it is probably much higher quality than if you printed it at home or attempted to frame it on your own.. ok yea that's definitely weird, I just saved the image and put it on my computer so I assume they arent trying really hard to copyright it.Lizzy60 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 5:31 pmRead more carefully. Thats dissapointing... haha there goes my whole argument!
I guess I understood it when it was like a painting and what have you, but a picture seems like such little effort I cant see why it needs to be sold... I suppose the only solace is that it is through deseret news, and i don't have the same expectations from them that i do from the church. haha

$25 for a quick through part of the Rome Temple is A LOT cheaper than tithing, Lizzy!Lizzy60 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 5:31 pmRead more carefully. The $25+tax is NOT for a framed photo. Downloading the photo should be free the only maintenance would be server for hosting. It is practically no cost at all to download a digital image.Lizzy60 wrote: ↑March 12th, 2019, 4:19 pm https://www.deseretnews.com/purchase/photo_700679710

They are making a profit on this for sure .
Now the actual print I could see having an overhead cost for the materials.
Next thing will be priestcraft where the leaders get paid to be in their position to preach the gospel. Oh wait. They already get a salary......

https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/ ... stles-romePresident Nelson added, “This is a hinge point in the history of the Church. Things are going to move forward at an accelerated pace of which this is a part. We think the Church is an old Church. It’s 189 years old. But it’s only the beginning. Just project out what the next future will be and the Church is going to have an unprecedented future. Unparalleled. We’re just building up to what’s ahead now.”

Re: Entire First Pres. Q of 12 to attend Rome Temple dedication
I find that the construction of the temple in ROME, the subsequent dedication, as well as the attendance of the First Presidency and the 12, to be remarkable as well as a milestone. Like many others, I am looking forward to General Conference.
Frankly, I am getting sick and tired of those who will ALWAYS find something to complain about. "Waaaah! This church is just an apostate corporation; the money! Follow the money!!" or "I haven't seen any REAL revelation, this is just good business sense"
just to name a couple of complaints from the whiny, naysaying trolls.
Money is a means of exchange, and is required to get things done. Deal with it.
No "new" or "real" revelation? The Prophet Russel M Nelson has revealed several, but because he hasn't said "Thus sayeth the Lord..." it doesn't count. Really? If he stood up in GC and utilized that statement prior to every revelation he shares with us, what do you think would happen? The world would pounce on it, and after they were done laughing, mocking, or whatever, he'd be branded as the latest cult leader and suddenly the Church would be silently(or not) the latest Waco or something, and gee, I wonder where that could lead?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but seriously? I really wish the mods would boot at least the most repetitive trolls, who OBVIOUSLY have little motive outside of sowing doubt and discord.

I'm sure the picture will be in next month's Ensign for free.
