ROME — A history-making new temple in Rome has senior Latter-day Saint leaders making some extraordinary history of their own.

For the first time, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has placed one of its most sacred buildings in a land of the Bible, and to dedicate it this weekend, the entire First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are assembling outside the United States for what is believed to be the first time in the faith’s 188-year history.

The church announced the noteworthy gathering in a news release on Friday. President Russell M. Nelson and other leaders will dedicate the Rome Italy Temple in seven sessions on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Love the pyramid design as viewed from the front. Getting back to the more ancient designs?

No warnings given to any of us who live here, that I'm aware of. I'll let you know if/when it happens (assuming I survive it).

I read that too just yesterday! https://whistleblowerjeff.holyspiritwin ... two-weeks/
"March 6, 2019– Mary Greeley News – In a new report prepared for Prime Minister Putin by the Institute of Physics of the Earth warned that America in the next two weeks is in danger of catastrophic proportions Earthquake.
Focusing on the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America, and the region along the west coast of the New Madrid zone Fault.
SCIENTISTS have urged government officials to prepare for a terrifying and unprecedented magnitude-9 mega-earthquake that would unleash a deadly tsunami with 30 metre-high waves."
On a separate note, I believe that the reason the whole 12 went was to was to show that there is a quorum of 12 apostles currently on the earth today just as in Christ's time. Thus their awesome visitor center that shows the statue's of 12 apostles behind the Christ statue. I believe that means a lot to the Italian people? Quite the big deal!

"President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with Pope Francis inside the Vatican Saturday, the first meeting between a Latter-day Saint President and a Pope. The visit comes a day before President Nelson dedicates the Church’s first temple in Rome. President Nelson was joined by President M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Following the 33-minute meeting, President Nelson and President Ballard met with members of the media. "We had a most cordial, unforgettable experience. His Holiness, he was most gracious and warm and welcoming," said President Nelson.
Interfaith dialogue has been a practice of Latter-day Saint leaders from the founding days of the faith. Since becoming leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2018, President Nelson has engaged with Roman Catholic prelates during several of his ministry stops. In Texas last November, he met with Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of the Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio. And last month in Arizona, he spoke to Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Catholic Bishop of Phoenix. President Nelson has engaged in similar outreach many times in his 35 years of service as an apostle, traveling to more than 130 countries to minister to Latter-day Saints and friends of the faith.
President Nelson was interviewed in October 2018 by Sergio Rubin, the biographer of Pope Francis, during a ministry stop in Uruguay. President Nelson and Mr. Rubin briefly discussed the Rome Italy Temple. “We appreciate the kindness of the pope and the Vatican. They are most gracious in welcoming us,” the prophet said at the time.
Past interfaith dialogue between Catholics and Latter-day Saints at the Vatican includes President Henry B. Eyring (a counselor to the late Church President Thomas S. Monson) shaking hands with Pope Francis during a Vatican summit on marriage. In 2010, President Ballard visited Catholic leaders at the Vatican. In 1995, then-president Gordon B. Hinckley gave a copy of the Encyclopedia of Mormonism to the Vatican Library.
Catholic and Latter-day Saint leaders have also met in many other places. For example, in 2010 the late Cardinal Francis George (1937–2015), then the leader of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), spoke at Brigham Young University and met with Latter-day Saint apostles. More recently, apostles have discussed issues of common ground with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York. And several Catholic leaders have made visits to Utah. This includes Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville (then the president of the USCCB), who visited Temple Square in 2016, and Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia, who has spoken at Brigham Young University several times. In 2015, Archbishop Chaput invited Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to share principles Latter-day Saints employ to strengthen families during the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
In Utah, the Church has cultivated a strong relationship in recent decades with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. President Ballard and Elder Christofferson joined Catholics in Utah for the installation of Bishop Oscar A. Solis, who was appointed by Pope Francis in 2017 to lead Catholics in Utah. “Latter-day Saints cherish the long-standing friendship we have developed with the Catholic community in Utah and around the world,” President Ballard said at the time. President Ballard also attended the installation mass for Archbishop John C. Wester in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Archbishop Wester, Bishop Solis’s predecessor, was the Catholic bishop in Utah for eight years."
At the Rome Temple media day in January, Elder David A. Bednar (chairman of the Church’s Temple and Family History Department) explained the faith’s global makeup and mindset. He also recognized that Rome is one of the most historic locations in the world, a city rich in biblical history, where the ancient apostles Peter and Paul preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. . .

I'm, ummm, pretty sure earthquakes can't be predicted with anything close to that level of accuracy.

I'm wondering about their travel plans. Did they all go on the same flight, knowing they would be preserved, or did they follow the common practice of breaking the group up and putting them on different flights in case something happens to one?

Super cool, thank you Michelle!

The statues of the twelve apostles is super ... cool (my tired vocabulary is rather narrow) - I wonder if that's Peter on the far left, followed by James holding the staff. Also, one of them seems to be carrying a large cross. Another is carrying a .. halberd? Odd.

Nevertheless, having two modern apostles standing in Rome in front of such a display is awe-inspiring.

"The Rome Italy Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is now dedicated. On a cool and overcast Sunday March day, Church President Russell M. Nelson conducted the symbolic cornerstone ceremony, which signifies the temple’s completion and readiness to be dedicated for sacred use. The ceremony is also symbolic of Christ as the Chief Cornerstone of the Church.
As the first of seven dedicatory sessions scheduled over the next three days came to a completion, President Nelson offered the dedicatory prayer. He said, “In this ancient and great city that has stood since biblical times—in this historic nation of Italy—we acknowledge the ministry of two of Thy Son’s early Apostles, Peter and Paul, who once blessed this land with their labors. May the influence of their abiding testimony of Jesus Christ continue to be felt among the vital values of this great country.”In continuing his prayer, he said, “We are grateful for the support of church, government, and civic leaders who have offered much-appreciated goodwill in our desire to build this holy temple here in Rome. Wilt Thou bless them for their kindness and fortify their continued desire to preserve religious liberty for all,”

The Rome Temple nor the Vatican can keep up with the Solomon's. Nephi lamented that the Temple he had built didn't compare either.

I Guess we should all shoot for mediocrity??

First ever meeting between a Pope and a President of the LDS Church
History was made Saturday at Vatican City as Pope Francis met with President Russell M. Nelson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It was the first time any Pope has met with any prophet of the LDS Church.

President Nelson said his meeting with the Pontiff was very good.

"We talked about our mutual concern for the people who've suffered throughout the world. We want to relieve human suffering," President Nelson said. "We talked about the importance of religious liberty, the importance of the family."

While this was the first face-to-face meeting of leaders of both faiths, the two churches have worked together on projects all over the world.

"We've had projects with Catholic religious services all over the world, in over 43 countries," M. Russell Ballard, President of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles said.

The leaders exchanged gifts. President Nelson gave the Pope a Christus statue and the Pope gave Nelson a copy of his Declaration of the Family.

"The moment when President Nelson actually embraced the Pope and they gave each other a hug as we left was everything," President Ballard said.

"What a sweet, wonderful man he is," President Nelson added. "How fortunate are people to have such a gracious, concerned and loving, capable leader."

I've been to Rome and Salt Lake City, more particularly the Vatican and Temple Square.
I know it's not a competition but if it was, the Vatican wins hands down.

I just saw my first advertisement featuring the Prophet and the Pope. I have my doubts that hobnobbing with the Pope, especially this one, is going to be beneficial for the Church in influencing potential converts.

Shadow - the thought that immediately came to mind upon viewing the statue of Christ with the ancient apostles in the background was of the inside of a Catholic Church. They've typically got idols statues of old saints prominently displayed throughout the building. The similarity was striking... It seems we are taking the same path as the GAC.

I believe that is a reference to "Great and Abominable Church," which is what Bruce R. McConkie referred to the Catholic Church, although he was forced to walk that back.
