Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
I should have quoted you, because you reduced your post so that you got rid of the part that said you were given no choice by your parents, since you were raised in the church, and you feel trapped. You said you were going to turn over a new leaf by saying that.
Just say what you really think, Dusty. Don't be a wimp.

Why not! You've got nothing to lose and someone else might learn something. It might be cathartic for you to pop that huge spiritual pimple protruding from your forehead, looming over your brow.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
But you started the thread!
You may be reluctant to "cast your pearls" but it works both ways Dusty. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander my friend.
But I'm not at all surprised... this is your usual MO.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
Sharing your conversion story is definitely not casting pearls, especially here on this site.
So let me start.
While I was growing up, my mom was always interested in religion. She wanted a safe place for me. When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I was sent to participate in a catholic seminary. Later on my mom joined a pentecostal like church, but according to her there was much more to it: she actually found Christ. Andi t was true. Around that time she had her first testimony about Christ. As the years were passing by, she felt that something was missing. She wanted to find a better place, a real place to be. I was around 16 when she had two dreams. In her first dream she saw two angel looking personages bringing her a letter. She couldn't read the letter, only the signature: Joseph Smith. The other dream was about her being in a boat on the sea. She was drifting along when a large ship came and picked her up.
Not long after the elders came trackting, and we got baptized. She found out only later that Brigham Young often compared the Church to a ship.
Of course at some point after my mission I drifted away, slowly but surely. Years passed and I sank into the lowest. But all actions have their consequences, I lost everything. Family, job, house, and eventually friends too. And in that moment, in that desperate moment, I remembered. I called out for Christ crying and realizing all my mistakes, faults and wrongdoings.
I still recall the immediate relief and help and the deepest love of Christ I felt right then. I have never felt so much compassion and care and charity ever in my life. The power and strength of atonement of Christ touched even the marrow in my bones.
That is the beginning of my conversion story.
I have been a member for over 23 years now, and I can say this period was a continuous conversion. Getting to know the scriptures, experiencing the atonement of Christ, repentance, knowing the divine power of the Book of Mormon, having knowledge. For me it was and still is a continuous experience. I owe Christ a debt, a huge ongoing debt which I will never be able to repay. That is why I love his Church. I have an extra opportunity to serve and try to feed the sheep, and by doing so I can save myself from being lost again.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
When I was six years old I had two questions. So I prayed and asked Heavenly Father. I opened the book of Mormon and the first verse I read answered my first question. Then I flipped the page and the next verse I read answered the next question.
I guess my testimony has always been of Heavenly Father, that He is real, and I have always had a relationship with Him.
I know Jesus said it was life eternal to know Heavenly Father, and He wished everyone could know Him like He knows Him.
I also have an ancestor quite far back that prayed to know which church was true. One day he met the missionaries. When he did, he had a dream of a building that went all the way up into heaven. So, he knew the Church of Jesus Christ was true.
It's not necessarily a burning in my bosom, there will always be times where you can't "feel" it, times of testing. More importantly than a feeling is the fact that believing is a choice that has consequences. What you believe is always a choice. And so, does that choice bring rewards?
I have a family, a great husband, and a place to turn to for spiritual enlightenment. I have a place that teaches the roles of women when the world will never teach such things. I have a place that teaches not to break the law of chastity, and for husbands to treat their wives with respect. I don't know anywhere else in the world that could have given me such blessings.
I am very grateful for the church that teaches us to value families, the Priesthood, as a core part of our happiness. The rest of the world seems to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
It's too sacred to discuss, but since this the internet...
I was 8 years old and baptized with 50 other kids born in September. We sat on the first 2 rows with our dads. There was a speaker, we went one by one got dunked and then went to Sizzler with grandma and grandpa.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
How can a "church" be true anyway? What does that even mean? For that matter, the LDS Church was legally disenfranchised many decades ago - it doesn't even exist, except on paper. Is the Corporation of the President true? That's who I used to make our tithing checks out to (before doing it online), so the Corporation of the President must be true. Now I know what I will bear testimony of next month. What strange beliefs we have in this Church. The gospel of Jesus Christ - now that is something entirely different (and thank God for that) - and it IS true, in the truest sense of the word.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
I will share with you my conversion story.
I was born in the LDS Church, and went to church my whole life. I went off track for a few years, and because of personal choices, ended up very lonely and depressed. I'll spare you the details because it's a long story.
For years I "knew" the Church was true. I "knew" Jesus was my Savior.
In reality, looking back, I didn't know anything. I leaned on my parents testimony.
Long story short, one night I couldn't take it anymore. I hadn't gone to church in a year, I wasn't planning on serving a mission, I don't even know the last time I prayed. I started crying like a little child, loudly and violently. I began to beg God to help me and I repeated the same thing over and over. "Please comfort me, help me God. I don't want to be alone."
After about 15 minutes, the most incredible thing happened. Fire entered my body and filled me from my head to my toe, and inexplicable joy and comfort filled my soul and it felt as if my chest would burst. I no longer felt sadness, and felt an instant desire to read the Book of Mormon. That moment , I was converted due to this baptism of fire given to me from God. I was convertednot to a church, but to Jesus Christ. I began to read the Book of Mormon every day and soon finished it, got my Patriarchal Blessing, and went on my Mission where I was able to help others have the same experience that converted me to Jesus Christ.
You need to be converted to Jesus. Only then will you have a sure foundation, an Anchor to help you through the storms of life. The thought of everything else falling apart won't matter because you have Jesus, and he answered your prayer and took your sins and filled you with his love, even to the consuming of your flesh.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
This! Too many people are fake converted to an organization. True conversion only comes about through the Doctrine of Chrsit, in this moment you epitomized a broken heart and contrite spirit. Something similar happened to me and it also changed my life - the Lord changed me and my heart when I also broke down in humility and offered Him myself and a broken heart and contrite spirit- truly realizing I couldn't do it myself and giving it all to Him.Stahura wrote: ↑March 8th, 2019, 5:51 pmI will share with you my conversion story.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
Like Stahura and John Tavner, I had a time when I felt lost, hopeless, sinful and broken. When I cried out for Christ, He healed me and filled me with love, joy and hope. The church taught me to seek Christ. My conversion was from seeking a “true church” to a testimony of Jesus Christ as my savior and Son of God. I am grateful for the church that pointed me to Christ, in whom I have faith.

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ is True!
When I started this thread I was trying to turn over a new leaf and be like most of you on here a good believing mormon, but it didn't last very long, there is an important quote by Socrates
"An unexamined life is not worth living"

Within the course of 1 day you tried to turn over a new leaf and face up?
Brother , don’t worry about being a “good Mormon”. Try and find God and you will be free.

I've been trying to find God through living the tenets of Mormonism and here I am in chains and locked away in a prison!
