Potential changes forthcoming

This is a list of potential changes that may be forthcoming, possibly as early as April GC according to sources with contacts at the COB - thought I'd post it for discussion...

1. Church trying to make room for members to partake of Coffee and Tea
2. Having the Garment worn inside the temple only
3. To revamp the Missionary system making Service Missions and/or Local Missions prominent
4. Decentralize the financial responsibilities of the Church geographically.
5. Women will be given significant increased roles (Women giving blessings to be formally seen as approved), recent change for Mothers of Young Children to serve as ordinance workers for example of a small change heading that direction.
6. Increase dramatically in visible charitable giving to outside charities and outside humanitarian efforts
7. Changes to the office/mode of operation of Patriarch being discussed
8. Heavenly Mother will be given a significantly increased role in the conversation and theology within correlated Mormonism.
9. Significant changes made to ensure Bishops and Stake Presidents receive significant training. (Anything from multiple weeks of in-depth training to even a full-time trained clergy in regards to Bishops and Stake Presidents)
10. RS General Presidency continually has its visibility increased and effort made to add value to their voices and the voice of women. (while maintaining the top 15’s own authority and nepotism to ultimately lead the Church)
11. Create a group of women that would act similarly to the quorums of Seventy (travel and be involved in committees and have a voice in decision making at levels lower than the top 15)
12. Age for women going on missions to be lowered to 18 as well or men moved back up to 19 to make them equal in this regard.
13. Separate Marriages from Sealing to allow a couple to be married publicly and sealed immediately afterward in a separate act.
14. Additional Policy adjustments to protect the Church’s public image in Sex abuse cases.
15. I was missing a #15 in the audio but will add it here – You're going to see further adjustments to the scriptures to remove sections of language from the D&C, heading etc. and or add in language to headings ect. to confront the growing evidence against the former claims of the Church and a growing discomfort with our overreaching.
16. The Ward Library and the calling of Librarian eliminated in areas that have quality access to technology.
17. Adjust callings that have room to not require Priesthood to allow for female leadership (Ex: Sunday School Presidency)
18. Do away with or control who speaks in Fast and Testimony Meeting
19. Allow equivalent aged Girls to pass the Sacrament where the congregation lacks adequate priesthood.
20. Remove multiple cultural boundaries imposed as Mormonism but which are acknowledged as American culture and unnecessary. (Ex: allowing a wider range of instruments used in Church meetings)
21. A New Handbook of instruction is coming
22. Temple Recommend bar-codes will be connected to a photo so the uses of recommends by someone other than who the recommend belongs to can be thwarted.
23. Young Adult/Older Teen service Projects away from home that give a young member a significant experience making the world better but also connected directly to the Church. A mini service mission per se
24. There are now concrete discussions occurring asking how we move towards more inclusivity towards LGBTQ members.

I can see some of that happening. Over time, I think all or most of it could happen.

I understand that when endowments were first given, no one wore garments outside of the temple. If that is true, I don't know if it was because no one had cloth to make them or if there was another reason to change from one to the other.

Hmm I wonder how they would change the role of the Patriarch? Return it to its role during pre- Grant days?

Some of these are very worrisome and others are very welcome.

Coffee and tea, no more garments in daily life, or changing teachings to make people unwilling to live the laws of chastity and fidelity feel welcome sound like turning toward the world and away from God.

Training for bishops and stake presidents would be great. I know a lot of divorced people who have been shunned by bishops or stake presidents and have known of bishops who refuse to accept the teaching that they are called to serve the whole ward instead of just one part of the ward. Separating marriage and sealing would also be wonderful as it would allow for more inclusive marriage ceremonies. Matching a photo to the temple recommend record would be a very good idea. And facial recognition technology would help stop people who repeatedly join the church under false names to defile temples.

And some really aren't changes. Service and local missions are already very common for senior couples.

Most of this even if it was to happen would likely not be announced in GC. I highly doubt we’ll get rid of patriarchs. Decentralized finances also sounds extremely unlikely. I take it you’re getting your rumors from NOM’s and ex’s.

Well, the thing is, Col Flagg has been making these predictions for a while now, and he seems to have a good source. He has predicted several things quite a few months in advance. In hindsight it might not seem that big of a deal, but there were several things I was highly skeptical of that ended up happening.

I would add compulsory background checks for all who serve as: stake presidents, bishops, youth leaders, everyone who works in primary and all missionaries

Also all missions will be for a period of 18 months for all elders and sisters

A few notes -

1. Church trying to make room for members to partake of Coffee and Tea
I, for one, would be overjoyed were we to take Section 89 seriously again, as written, "restoring" our interpretation of it to what we can glean from the text itself, "To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the word of wisdom, showing forth the order and will of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—Given for a principle with promise, adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints."

2. Having the Garment worn inside the temple only
The only reason this one bothers is me that I JUST BARELY bought new garments a few days ago.

6. Increase dramatically in visible charitable giving to outside charities and outside humanitarian efforts
While I like this in theory, it bothers me when I see groups receiving donation money that have some goals directly opposed to our own, even if some of their other goals are similar.

13. Separate Marriages from Sealing to allow a couple to be married publicly and sealed immediately afterward in a separate act.
Awesome. I've been expecting this one for awhile now.

15. I was missing a #15 in the audio but will add it here – You're going to see further adjustments to the scriptures to remove sections of language from the D&C, heading etc. and or add in language to headings ect. to confront the growing evidence against the former claims of the Church and a growing discomfort with our overreaching.
This only bothers me if it's driven by intellectuals/scholars who think they know better than prophets instead of God-to-prophet direct channel. I know for a fact that they (scholars) frequently feed bad information to the leadership of the church, and, in the words of the prophet, "good inspiration is based upon good information."

18. Do away with or control who speaks in Fast and Testimony Meeting
LOL. So, no more 4-year-olds expressing a "wrote" testimony, or having it dictated by their parents? No more people coming out of the closet and rebuking the church? Actually, I think it would be wonderful if it were by invitation from now on.

20. Remove multiple cultural boundaries imposed as Mormonism but which are acknowledged as American culture and unnecessary. (Ex: allowing a wider range of instruments used in Church meetings)
This is brilliant, as long as it doesn't ignore prophetic teachings about things like modesty (more than one definition of that word applies in this context).

24. There are now concrete discussions occurring asking how we move towards more inclusivity towards LGBTQ members.
We already know this is happening. That said, for anyone reading this one, we shouldn't assume it means something like same-sex marriage will be condoned or that the church will change the law of chastity. If that were to happen, the church would lose all credibility and would be in a state of full-blown apostasy. I think we can expect more efforts to help members treat others with dignity and kindness, but I hope the church doesn't decline to also repeatedly declare the truth about chastity and marriage. There is a balance there that we're not really striking right now.

Well, if the Church does number 6 - this will be my first thought "

Matt 6: 1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2Therefore when thou doest [thine] alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. Thanks for this post - do you have any insight into what #4 means? "4. Decentralize the financial responsibilities of the Church geographically." Does this mean stakes and wards will be responsible for their own funds rather than from central headquarters?

I'm sure all of these did well with the focus groups. Not exactly something I'd need to take vitamins for. In fact, it's exactly what I would expect from anyone in the same position who was most concerned about being popular. As you read them, think about what NPR or a feminist would say about them. Then think about what you imagine Jesus or Joseph Smith would say about them. Who is the church most concerned about appeasing?

Some are noteworthy:
2. This will be a hard sell for some people, but those people are the most likely to follow the leadership
4 I think this is to avoid lawsuits devastating the whole church and mostly to avoid people finding out how much money the church has.
6 Same as another poster stated. Why does it need to be visible? Why not just increase giving? The way it's worded there, they might even take away from less visible giving to support the more visible giving.
8 Is there going to be new revelation or just official speculation?
15 Because we were always at war with Eurasia? Why the need to change the scriptures?
20 This will be interesting. If they come against the Constitution being divinely inspired or something, then they actually have some guts.
21 Not sure what that means, does anyone else?
23 will be cool if they pull it off, but also something that might have come out of marketing.

My question is:
Is there anything here that will make the church less popular in the eyes of the world?
Is there anything here that will take guts?
Is there anything happening that will draw people closer to Christ?
Is there anything here that wouldn't have come up in a discussions with atheist consultants?

It most likely means the church is going to spin off some number of subsidiaries who will be wholly owned by the Church so you can't sue one and see the assets of another. And you won't be able to take down the whole church with lawsuits. If they do it right, they could potentially avoid any previous misconduct charges because that church (therefore the defendent) won't exist anymore. Companies do things like this, especially with regards to intellectual property, so the parent corporation can be sued to death but they can retain the IP. (In fact, the church does this very thing with IRI.)

To me, it looks like the Church is trying to please Christ.
harakim wrote: March 6th, 2019, 12:40 pmMy question is:

Hard to say. Does what the world think is popular or not really matter, though? I don't think that this question is relevant. Who cares what the world thinks?
harakim wrote: March 6th, 2019, 12:40 pmIs there anything here that will take guts?
Yes. For instance, being compassionate and understanding towards others that we have a bias/prejudice against is gonna be hard and it will take guts for many people in the Church.
harakim wrote: March 6th, 2019, 12:40 pmIs there anything happening that will draw people closer to Christ?
Yes. There are several, I believe, but one example: Women have the priesthood. Heavenly Mother is real. Acknowledging this and aligning ourselves with this truth draws us closer to Christ. Christ = light, life, and truth. Anything that increases light, life, and truth, is drawing us closer to Christ.
harakim wrote: March 6th, 2019, 12:40 pmIs there anything here that wouldn't have come up in a discussions with atheist consultants?
No idea. I would have to make some hasty generalizations in order to supply any kind of answer, but, hasty generalizations don't often reflect truth and we can't fairly draw any firm or lasting conclusions from them.

What if it increases its visible donations to charities, but, also increases its invisible donations to charities, etc.?

The Church, in this case, is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

What if it increases its visible donations to charities, but, also increases its invisible donations to charities, etc.?

The same thought applies. Scripture is scripture and isn't influenced by what man thinks.

Well, the thing is, Col Flagg has been making these predictions for a while now, and he seems to have a good source. He has predicted several things quite a few months in advance. In hindsight it might not seem that big of a deal, but there were several things I was highly skeptical of that ended up happening.
I think Flagg's source is probably running at less than 5%. Seems like a failure to me. I bet almost all of these predictions will go the way of Julie Rowe's predictions- ain't happening.
Flagg said last time that his sources were people in the know- a Bishop and a high councilor if I remember right. I laughed out loud. As you're probably well aware, bishops and high councilors are most definitely NOT in the know. Oh, I think there was someone who was in the Temple Square Choir who was also referred to as someone in the know, but that might not be Flaggs source. I don't recall who posted that.

Col. Flagg wrote: March 5th, 2019, 5:54 pm This is a list of potential changes that may be forthcoming, possibly as early as April GC according to sources with contacts at the COB - thought I'd post it for discussion...

How does it apply?

I don't understand your other statement. Its too cryptic for me. Can you please clarify what you mean and how that last statement of yours is relevant, please.

No, I will not. I was clear enough. If you really desire to know how it applies (or doesn't) the Lord will answer your prayers (james 1:5) if done with real intent (Moroni 10:4).

Have a good night, Finrock.
