Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
Ok, so does this mean the marriages of church members will be done like everyone else? Like they'll walk down the aisle in a fancy gown, and the men all wear tuxedos? I think that would be awesome change. I realize church members like to be more frugal, but I have to say you lifers are really missing out on a unique, rare experience of fancy dress up for weddings. And it does nothing to detract from the seriousness of the occasion. It actually has the opposite effect.Col. Flagg wrote: ↑February 14th, 2019, 2:48 pm Effective Jan 1., 2020, the church will no longer perform temple marriages, only sealings.
Coffee and tea will be permitted but with emphasized moderation.
Young women will be allowed to pass the Sacrament.
Those were the 3 big ones I heard were in the works last fall.

Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
Two different wards. The last one was in a less well-to-do area and two EQPs got anti'd so hard they left and the third one gradually drifted off after asking to be released. My current ward is affluent. That being said, the second EQP I had when I moved in kinda got pounded and wanted out after about a year or so. The current EQP is a former bishop (part of the STP) and is doing just fine, thanks.thestock wrote: ↑March 18th, 2019, 12:57 pmWait I thought your ward had problems with Sunday School and Primary. According to your last post the EQP/RS and other "higher callings" were well taken care of by the STP. Now I am hearing that your EQP's also go inactive or else demand a release.iWriteStuff wrote: ↑March 18th, 2019, 11:28 amIn my last ward, I had three out of three EQ Presidents leave the church, two during their tenure and one immediately after serving. In my current ward, my last EQP begged to be released. That finally happened when they combined EQ and HP.PressingForward wrote: ↑March 18th, 2019, 11:16 am I went years between callings, and also was never called to be a HP until I was 53.....
Served 2 useless EQ Presidents, of course one was Bishops SIL and the other, the Patriarch’s SIL......I resigned from the Patriarchs SIL stent.......which I was promptly labeled as “proud”. This followed me for two wards I’m positive.
It’s terrible the STP and nepotism in the church. Those of us who serve, and are not listened to stop serving.
I think the point is most guys want to feel like they're making a difference somewhere. The problem is they think that leadership will provide that. When/if they finally get it, they learn firsthand that A) most people in the ward will spend their time criticizing them for not doing what they would have done and B) you learn everyone's garbage, and it sort of ruins your idealized perceptions of other members. If I've learned one thing in ward council, it's that leadership is thankless, requires a ton of work, and is sometimes just brutal in the personal criticism leveled at you.
I don't know you and I am trying real hard to take you at your word....but my rational side is telling me that either you are exaggerating quite a bit about the state of things in your ward or else you seem to be in a part of the Lord's vineyard that has enough members to have a church but not enough members to actually run the church without missionaries....so far east Asia or something!?
While the current ward is affluent, they are used to being in charge. And I think it's perfectly obvious that when teaching Sunbeams, no one is in charge (except maybe the Sunbeams). Hence the strong aversion. Or I dunno. Who knows what the real reason is that people won't accept callings in the Primary. All I know is the Primary President is constantly complaining how no one will accept a call or, if they do, don't show up. As far as the SS goes, it seems the biggest reason to have a Presidency is to have a built in substitute teacher reserve. Again, not complaining; just observing. I've been all over Primary, SS, EQ, the ward mission, and they're all about the same to me. You get blessed wherever you serve.

Seems lowering the mission length to 18 months for men has already been tried and was reversed back to 2 years pretty quickly.

You're both wrong... it's Yorkshire.
I got it from a friend who's wife's, sister's, cousin's, aunt's, next door neighbour's, brother's, gardener's, uncle's, work colleague's, ministering companion's, father's, MLM down-line guy.
So, impeccable provenance.

I 100% agree with you about caffeine and sugar. What bothers me is that at some point, aren't we supposed to be trying to reach exhalation? Doesn't that mean becoming like God? Doesn't becoming like God mean making good choices? The members of the Church, at some point, need to stop being treated like little children being watched over by their wise parents. "Teach them correct principles, and then let them govern themselves." - Joseph Smithtdj wrote: ↑March 18th, 2019, 2:47 pmCol. As far as the coffee and tea goes, as someone who spent the first 38 yrs of my life in the non mormon world before joining, I would advise the leaders and anyone else who asks to leave the coffee alone. It's way too high in caffeine. Tea is ok. It's really nothing more then flavored water, but coffee can be a real stinker. The only thing worse to our health that's legal, is soda pop. And that's not because of the caffeine either, but the SUGAR. Sugar is what is causing the vast majority of our health problems today. Caffeine is addictive, but sugar is so much worse.
Interesting note about caffeine: did you know that if taken during some heart attacks, it can save your life? It's a stimulant that in certain cases, keeps the heart pumping during an attack when it would otherwise stop.
Also, eating too much sugar is what is responsible for most attacks.
I know sugar is bad for me, and I try to avoid it as best I can. I am truly grateful I dont have a morality police ready to yank away my temple recommend every time I cave and eat a chocolate covered almond. I don't happen to drink coffee....but on very rare occasions when sleep is lacking and I have a need to be alert I will take some caffeine. Why would I do such a terrible thing knowing it could lead to all sorts of problems? 1) because I understand moderation and 2) because I am a free agent in this life. I dont need someone hovering over me and telling me that because I drank a red bull I must surrender my temple recommend. That would just be rubbish. Yet....that is the way our church treats its members. Think about it for a second......we RESTRICT ACCESS TO SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS FOR PEOPLE THAT DONT CONFORM to the silly rule, while saying its ok for people who instead binge on red bulls. How silly and counter intuitive is that?
I dont mean to criticize the church. All I am saying is the time needs to come when the silly "law of moses" type of laws need to be done away with and our people stop being treated like ignorant little children in need of a schoolmaster.

Agreed. This rumor has been going around for months, yet no one has produced any evidence of a single mission call where this is stated (watch for some fakes to come out now, lol). I seem to remember a similar rumour 6 months ago. In that case we were assured that some mission calls were being received which didn't state the mission of labour but said that it would be announced in General Conference. This was accompanied with the usual assurances from those peddling the rumour that it was their nephew or their bishop's daughter etc.EmmaLee wrote: ↑March 19th, 2019, 9:21 amAgreed. Sugar is definitely the greatest danger for countless reasons(not least of which is that it's addictive qualities is 5X's greater than cocaine-although I was beyond skeptical when I first learned that, I've since learned better), and is brought to mind when I read the WoW when it mention those in "secret chambers...". I mean that crap is in everything.thestock wrote: ↑March 19th, 2019, 7:56 amI 100% agree with you about caffeine and sugar. Caffiene is something I have zero guilt using in moderation; however, I have been on the other side, where I used it excessively(NOT healthy).
Currently, I tend to start my day with theobromine(Caffiene's smarter, smoother, subtler older brother, derived from the "chocolate bean), phosphatydyl serine, rhodiola rosea, msm, etc...(all measured and capped by myself), and added to adequately good food, really helps with my memory, overall health, and even makes my occasional over indulgence in "something deep fried and smothered in chocolate" less...hang over-ish.
