kittycat51 wrote: March 19th, 2019, 7:49 pm Ok speaking of the mission call thing...kind of funny. Just today my son came home from school and said a kid in his seminary class got his mission call to Italy. He leaves in the summer after he graduates. It did not say for a specific time (as in two years) but it indicated that more information would be forth coming? :P
Again, I will say this is false. It will specify either 24 months for Elders and 18 months for Sisters.
Although I agree with you, I'm just the messenger in this. My son has no idea of what the "talk" is on LDSFF or any other social media sights concerning this topic. I thought it rather interesting though that he would tell me this.
I work for the missionary department. I would implement the change if true.

That being said.... there are many interesting things that will be coming......which I won't talk about. Online mission calls, different dress standards for specific missions, missionary planning and timing, missionaries calling home weekly, etc. are just a beginning. There is a lot of work to be done. Some things might be talked about in conference, or appear in the Ensign soon.

I will say that missionary safety and missionary health are #1 priority.

Well, mark down another one who just got a mission call today to Africa, and it states length of mission will be determined at this general conference.

Actually I can’t eat wheat, I was allergy tested and off the charts for wheat, and feathers! They told me to stop sleeping under a down blanket. I am also allergic to people from Utah. ( I just had to throw that in, hahaha) I break out in self- righteousness.

Calls are online now, except for certain circumstances. All documents in a call letter can be printed out from a PDF.

Just a little tidbit I thought I'd throw out there since it was rather interesting, especially with timing... yesterday on church-owned KSL's website, there were four articles about coffee and tea, two pro and two con. The two that were con were about the dangers of drinking coffee and tea too hot and that when the temperature of these substances is 140 or hotter, there's damage to the esophageal lining to cell tissue which can double the risk of cancer. First of all, anyone dumb enough to consume ANY liquid at 140 degrees is going to make their esophagus susceptible to serious cell tissue damage which can lead to cancer and secondly, who drinks coffee or tea at a scalding 140 degrees??? The two articles that were pro coffee and tea related to the many health benefits of them and how it was far more unhealthy to consume soda, energy drinks, sugar, etc.

Not only do people regularly drink beverages (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc.) at 140 degrees, they frequently drink it in excess of 160 degrees.

Coffee, for example, is frequently served between 160 and 185 degrees (sometimes even hotter), and many people drink it that hot.

OUCH!!!

This is a wonderful idea- go to KSL and see what the church wants us to see.
Her'e what I found-

Candy Crush vs. Mortal Kombat?
Obviously the church wants our youth playing video games. It keeps them off facebook and instagram.

Right, and sex with a spouse is immoral except when specifically attempting to conceive a child, and especially if you try to enjoy it in any way whatsoever.

However, if a doctor prescribes sex as the solution to headaches, loneliness, boredom, etc it is then fine.

And you should have a doctor's note if you are attempting to conceive, just to be safe.

I used to work as a news producer in SLC, but I had, and still have, many friends at KSL. I'm here to tell you that the church doesn't dictate the news on this level. Yes, the people who work there are sensitive to who their owner is (as any news organization is), and if there is a story that is relevant to the church, it may be escalated up the ladder for further discussion of how to cover it, but day to day, it's the news people just doing the news.

Now how well those news people are doing their job is a discussion for another day...

And, yes, shadow, I know your post was a joke. :D

I have been home off of my mission for just over 19 years and I have spent 16.5 of those years in the primary (the last 4 as Chorister) and the rest in Sunday school. 1 year of that in a Sunday school presidency. If you do not want to be in Primary and think it is beneath you, you are missing out on one of the most magnificent and rewarding callings in all of the church. If you want to see the power of the gospel and feel the spirit so strongly, go to primary.

I was in EQ and the new stake president asked how we can better fellowship and minister to the less active brethren and their families. It was silent for a couple of minutes when a brother said that we should just leave people alone that some people are lone wolves and don't want to be bothered. I was stunned. I raised my hand and told them if they want to learn how to fellowship and show love to the less active go to primary and ask the kids, they are the best at it. they accept and love on a level we forget or outgrow.

Well there goes your Primary calling. You'll soon be in the EQ presidency or an EQ instructor. You blew it! Everyone knows that when a Priesthood leader asks a group a question the best thing you can do is give a mediocre answer. You NEVER try to impress. The guy who said to do nothing- he can relax in church because he won't get a calling. He said that on purpose

I’m a convert, I used to drink quite a bit of ice tea, very popular in Texas, my soda consumption went up significantly after I abstained from ice tea, from being taught the WoW. If there was a change I would drink ice tea again instead of soda, mostly when out to dinnner. FYI, I’ve been off soda for 3 days, only water, I had some pizza and water the other night and it just felt wrong, some soda or ice tea would have been nice!

I understand. My oldest goes into a weird fugue state if she eats gluten. Interestingly enough, she doesn't have that problem when she eats wheat grown in Japan.
