Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
ya, as always, nice talks that are neutral - never standing up and showing the World what we stand for,
and fighting against what's evil.
too afraid of not being accepted in Babylon and what critics will say after.
"As we watch General Conference we should look for the spirit of prophecy."
not just listen to nice talks
If Jesus himself has said -
3 Nephi 23:1- 4
1 "And now, behold, I say unto you,
that ye ought to search these things.
Yea, a commandment I give unto
you that ye search these things diligently;
for great are the words of Isaiah."
Why does our prophet and church leaders never talk about Isaiah or quote him ?
Could it be that they don't understand him ? and if they don't understand him, do they really have the spirit of prophecy ?
"Wherefore, hearken, O my people, which are of the house of Israel, and give ear unto my words; for because the words of Isaiah are not plain unto you,
nevertheless they are plain unto all those that are filled with
the spirit of prophecy "
(2 Nephi 25:4) in part
quote
"As we watch General Conference we should look for the spirit of prophecy." not just listen to nice talks
"The scriptures warn us that in the last days there will be prophets who do not prophesy and seers who do not see (Isaiah 30:10). Jesus also warned that there would be false prophets and an abundance of men teaching their own precepts to get gain, so that even the very elect will be deceived (2 Nephi 26:29; JS Matthew 1:22).
As Latter-day Saints we must learn what a true prophet is and we must learn to discern between true and false prophets lest we also be deceived.
The scriptures provide a standard by which we can all judge.
Simply put, a prophet must have the spirit of prophecy in order to be a true prophet. This is the sign.
As we watch General Conference we should look for the spirit of prophecy. We should measure carefully what is being said. We should pray that those who we sustain as prophets will prophesy and speak prophetically because when prophets and seers, prophesy and see, they become a great benefit to their fellow man (Mosiah 8:18). This is the means whereby we can receive salvation.
If men who are called prophets do not have the spirit of prophecy we can know they are false prophets.
Nephi gives us an important bar by which we can measure:
Wherefore, hearken, O my people, which are of the house of Israel, and give ear unto my words; for because the words of Isaiah are not plain unto you, nevertheless they are plain unto all those that are filled with the spirit of prophecy (2 Nephi 25:4).
All prophets will understand the words of Isaiah.
They will also share the testimony of the Savior and of Nephi and others that the words of Isaiah are great!
When’s the last time you heard an LDS prophet give a talk on the words of Isaiah in General Conference?
When Jesus came to the Nephites, He gave them the “commandment to search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah.”
Do the servants of the Lord today emphasize this same commandment?
Today’s prophets write books such as: Counseling With Our Councils,
The Christmas Train, A Future As Bright As Your Faith, To The Rescue, Forget Me Not, and 21 Principles.
The above may be excellent topics,
but why do today’s LDS prophets not speak or write of Isaiah?
Why do they not rejoice in his words?
Why do they not explain what his words mean?
If these words are so great and so relevant to us in our day, why are the so called prophets
not using their “spirit of prophecy” in a way that would render Isaiah’s vital words easier to understand?
Is it possible that these prophets do not understand the words of Isaiah?
If so, can they be true prophets?
Jesus said “ALL who have the spirit of prophecy” will easily understand Isaiah’s words.
They will comprehend them in plainness. If these prophets rely upon trained scholars to understand Isaiah,
would this be evidence that such men are not true prophets?
I leave that for you to judge."

Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
At some point, I believe the Brethren will release a "proxy" version form of the endowment that does not include the presentation at all, just the essential covenants & attending ritual. This speedy version will allow much faster proxy work, like we have in the Initiatory & Baptistry. Patrons would be able to choose which kind of session they want to attend for their proxy name. This would be a temple change, so it most likely won't be announced in conference, just like the recent changes were not.
I do wonder if they will see a need to address more about the temple changes in upcoming conference, due to the varying reactions & some members' concerns about the shifting roles of men & women.
President Nelson said something interesting at the recent Devotional in Arizona last Sunday. He said "in the Temples, women are endowed with (or receive) priesthood power" - & we know that women administer the Washing & Anointing ordinances to women in the temple today "having authority..." - so I wonder if gradual changes are coming which will allow this to come outside the temple, meaning women participating in & exercising priesthood authority. One simple easing I could envision would be women being allowed to anoint & bless their children, lay hands on with their husbands for blessings, stand in the water and help dunk their children at baptisms, lay hands on with confirmations. Not sure how long it will take for these changes to be introduced.
What prognostications from last time are still on the table?

I heard here that they are going to put endowment houses in stake centers. I know that some stake centers are undergoing rennovations. It seems pretty reliable to me.

Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
"We are finding people in the world today are having a hard time with some of our doctrines.....
That being said, effective immediately....you may now:
-drink coffee and tea
-smoke weed
-perform priesthood ordinances if you are a woman
-marry a woman in the temple if you are a woman; and a man if you are a man
We think that covers it.....but if we forgot something else that bothers you....do let us know so we can get that corrected in October."
Hopefully this is taken a bit tongue in cheek!

Re: New Predictions 2019 April GC
My prediction is that there will be a major concession given to women. The Church has realized that they have lost the under 40 male demographic. There are lots of reasons for this but it's mostly self inflicted.
Women represent the "glue" that binds men and children to the church. Pay close attention to the recent messaging on this topic. Lots of focus on how the church is stable, reliable, and safe. Very few mentions of how the Church is exclusivily true or how we are "winning," and filling the earth with the gospel, etc...
Even something like "staying on the Covenant path" is targeted to women. l'm sure it's been focus group tested....
I'll also predict laying off the Porn theme when talking to men/boys.

Effective Jan 1., 2020, the church will no longer perform temple marriages, only sealings.
Coffee and tea will be permitted but with emphasized moderation.
Young women will be allowed to pass the Sacrament.
Those were the 3 big ones I heard were in the works last fall.

Some of the changes you are proposing were common before the 1920's i.e blessings, laying on of hands with husbands, anointings and blessings of children and other women.Jesef wrote: ↑February 14th, 2019, 1:09 pm At some point, I believe the Brethren will release a "proxy" version form of the endowment that does not include the presentation at all, just the essential covenants & attending ritual. If they do the coffee and tea thing, they should definitely bring back wine to the sacrament, haha, but I'm sure that would seriously cause issue.Col. Flagg wrote: ↑February 14th, 2019, 2:48 pm Effective Jan 1., 2020, the church will no longer perform temple marriages, only sealings.

There is simply no way the church can continue down the path of accepting homosexuality as normal and still require strict adherence to the Word of Wisdom. It scripturally is not a commandment. I mean, we should reject the drinker of wine, but accept sodomy? Does not pass the sniff test.

I'm hoping to hear something about China. I've been feeling the need to pray for China for a few months.
Edit: but I could see them emphasizing it, as you said, with a increased focus on using personal revelation to guide us in our use of it.

How could the WoW possibly get any stricter? Make it a sin to drink cold drinks and also we must reject grains and nuts?Yahtzee wrote: ↑February 14th, 2019, 11:53 pmIf anything is said regarding the WoW, I think it will be stricter. Thus says the Lord revelations haven’t occurred since adoption of the manifesto, so likely the new emphasis will comprise anecdotal examples of proper diet and exercise.thestock wrote: ↑February 15th, 2019, 6:04 amHow could the WoW possibly get any stricter? The Longevity Paradox by Dr. G is due out soon. Being translated in the blink of an eye is said to occur at the age of a tree. Me wonders the average age of the brethren, and which will translate at 100 years of age.

I believe "hot" in hot drinks to not mean temperature, but anything "stimulating" as per Noah Webster 1820 dictionary. I don't think it'd be unreasonable for caffeine and energy drinks to be called out. I'm not expecting a recommend question, but like the 2 earring thing I could see it announced or emphasized in conference. Don't get me wrong, I love my soda and cookies as much as any Utahn, but if we were told the time has come to end our sugar addiction I wouldn't be surprised.thestock wrote: ↑February 15th, 2019, 6:04 amHow could the WoW possibly get any stricter? I haven't considered what changes, if any, will be made. I wouldn't be surprised if no changes are made. I'm countering Flagg's claim on the WOW by saying it won't change this year, next year or any year in the near future. Starbucks stock price is at about $71. I'm guessing Flagg believes the church is a large stockholder and wants to up the value by allowing all the Mormons to partake. Or better yet, the church is buying a coffee company- Zion's Morning Brew.
I predict a dozen Temples announced, including one is Salt Lake and one in Tooele.
