"Many of our L.D.S. Saints request and receive Patriarchal Blessings.
There is a divine law which says: All given Blessings are predicated upon that
individual to pray and work for its fulfillment. in other words: they are
given unto you for you to develop and make yourself worthy to receive it,
in due time of the Lord."

Re: Unusual things said in Patriarchal Blessings
I have read my parents once, they let me. Blessings are a private matter and some take that to mean never share. I think its fine but only with people who are your trusted family and friends. Whats great about sharing amongst family is that you get to know them better and see them in a different way then every day life.
I have requested many of my direct ancestors blessings and read them. I hope they dont mind. I have noticed that some blessings and traits follow family lines, which is interesting to me.

Mind boggling indeed, and possibly a little simplistic.

It also presents the question, if one is wrong, how many others are also wrong?

Re: Unusual things said in Patriarchal Blessings
I waited my whole life for my patriarchal blessing. Even when I was inactive, I wanted one.
I was one of the first to get a blessing from a new patriarch and it was almost all boiler plate. I didn't know what to make of that. It basically only said 2-3 things that are not included in 50+% of patriarchal blessings. However, I know it was inspired and at this very moment, I am thinking about it in the context of the huge life changes I am about to undergo.

I would like to read my parents. I don't think it would be a big deal to do so. What I mean by that was that they were present when mine was given. Likewise I was present for all my children who have so far gotten theirs. I would be willing to let my children read mine if they asked.

Re: Unusual things said in Patriarchal Blessings
Thank you for sharing! I never thought about it this way. Several years ago I was at a stake conference with a visiting general authority. I don't recall his exact words but he either said I promise or I guarantee that if you use a specific feature at FamilySearch you will find new relatives who need ordinances. I did that and was not surprised to find nobody that I didn't already know about and had not personally entered into the system.evejaa wrote: ↑January 31st, 2019, 2:04 amIn most of our blessings if it says "you have a work to do, that nobody else can do", or something like unto this phrase or verbiage, it means genealogy!brianj wrote: ↑January 15th, 2019, 10:24 pmWow, that's interesting.
The only thing my PB says that could be unique is that I have work to do that nobody else can do. Since I feel like I have done very little of significance in the church or world I really wonder what this is or if I didn't already blow the chance to do this work.
To the OP: did you follow the council to read D&C 138? If so, you will recall there was a grand meeting in the Spirit World where the spirits of the faithful dead waited for the advent of the Savior. But that's not all: we are told that many of the great leaders of the church prior to this vision were also present. I strongly believe that all of us were present there.
The word "work" is the key. God tells us, His "work" and His glory is to bring to pass the eternal life of man. The "no one else can do it" part, is meant to say to you, "save your ancestors who are dead". Now I know a lot of people work on lines of genealogy, but the Spirit tells me, as I too have this verbiage in my PB, that the "no one else can do it" means the true bonding and eternal connecting of our lineage is given to you or in other words, they are looking to you, God is looking to you, to make sure all the info and people are found. For you to assist in this work. Even if you don't do the actual baptism, initiatory, endowment and sealing, You have been assigned the opportunity to gather, check and organize the information.
It does matter your part and your willingness to be part of the "work".
After my (thankfully now ex) wife left I started going to a temple weekly. Since October 2016 I have only missed three weeks, but I have made them up with extra visits. I now have a stack of cards over four inches high. For a long time the female initiatories and endowments were a very sore subject for me, not having any family in the church and not receiving any support from my ward. But an angel on this board offered to help, i eventually accepted, and she is responsible for the completion of dozens of ordinances on behalf of my female ancestors. Another board member invited me to the Logan temple where she joined me for the initiatories, endowments, and sealing of my grandparents. I will always be grateful to these two sisters.

My patriarchal blessing does not say really anything at all. It states my lineage, Manasseh, which is not surprising since I have a great deal of Native American heritage, the majority coming from my maternal side. As for my father's side I have 3 other Native American tribes plus Welsh Jews. Also it speaks of teaching my family and children.

So funny you bring this up. I actually thought about this song when I wrote this post. At BYU, I was in a video editing class and for a group project we made a music video to this song. Ridiculous. Lol.

I don't know haha, its all subjective. If I ever had to do manual labor I'd probably breakdown pretty quick haha. I usually exercise 5 times a week though mostly because of my PB and the signs of the times.JohnnyL wrote: ↑February 18th, 2019, 4:27 pmHa ha.
