L.A. council tightens gun, ammunition laws

The move is intended to help reduce the city’s gun and gang violence, but an NRA lawyer says a lawsuit is likely.

The Los Angeles City Council approved a package of gun control laws Wednesday, placing new requirements on ammunition sellers and banning the sale of military-style ammunition in the hopes of further reducing the city’s gun and gang violence.

The measures ban the sale of .50-caliber ammunition, capable of penetrating a car’s engine, and would require the city’s ammunition vendors to be licensed, to sell ammunition face-to-face instead of over the Internet and require gun dealers to report a full accounting of their inventory twice a year to the Police Department.

The council passed laws prohibiting the installation of secret compartments for guns in cars and allowing the city to permanently seize vehicles used by certain gang members during a crime, which was proposed by City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo.

The council also approved an ordinance that would allow landlords to evict tenants who are convicted of illegally possessing weapons or ammunition within 1,000 feet of the rental property.

A lawyer for the National Rifle Assn. said his client probably would file suit to block some of the measures.

.
Those silly fruits and nuts in california. They make the rest of the USA look bad. It may have happened, though I have never heard of gangs using .50 cal rifles to shoot through engine blocks. I really doubt that is a serious gang problem. Stupid politicians. Is the police department now going to hire someone to sit and read through all of those inventory lists?? What a joke. What is the purpose. I am sure they can invent one, though I wouldn't consider it credible. Stupid california socialist do-gooders!

I have wondered why the military doesnt use .223 hollow points, keeping all that energy in the body is the key. I mentioned before that my boys and I use .308 130 grain hollow points on deer. When hit they're dead!

I like the .45acp. my favorite round. My number two son likes his .45 long colt, but he's into revolvers. I choose the acp because in a pinch I can quiet it down!

I wonder if a .22(3) hollowpoint would even pierce a flak jacket at 100 yrds.

I wonder if a .22(3) hollowpoint would even pierce a flak jacket at 100 yrds. I suppose it would be fairly effective against someone w/o a flak. I watched a free Barnes Bullet dvd the other night. They have a prairie dog bullet that basically explodes on impact with impressive results. It would probably be somewhat worthless against a target with a flak.

Partly because girls only like guys with skills.

Myself, I'm pretty good with a bow staff.
I bought a Japanese hardwood bow staff when I practiced Tang Soo Do a few years ago. Everyone else used light weight broom handles, which are much lighter. I was never going to win any competitions with my impressive looking, but extremely heavy bow. I was exhausted after the first form, while everyone else was lightening fast even after their 5th.

I was considering throwing knives, but perhaps they're not such a good idea if I miss.

It's definitely a good idea to practice using whatever you choose as a weapon. I'm practicing with my compound bow at a club and in my garden at home. It didn't take a lot of practice to get my arrows to go where I want them to go and to get reasonable groupings.
