What are the 3 Nephites up to?

We are told that the 3 Nephites never tasted death and that they are here on earth
For what purpose were we ever told this?
Does it make any difference to me and my life??
I have heard folklore stories years ago about them but nothing recently, maybe they don't get over here to jolly old England?
Maybe because we are too heathen here?
Any recent sittings?

If you read the Book of Mormon like it's a newspaper full of interesting stories that happen to other people in other places, it probably isn't very relevant to you. I'm pretty sure that is not how we should be reading it, though.

I think I know the identity of one of them.
When I conduct sacrament meeting I fill out a pro-forma I designed. It outlines the speakers, the hymns, announcements, business etc. At the top of the form are two boxes, one labeled "Presiding" and the other "Conducting". I always leave the first one blank until the end of the meeting, and then insert my name. I joke that I do this just in case one of the Three Nephites walks in.
A couple of weeks ago, just as we were singing the sacrament hymn, and without any prior warning, one of the counselors on the stake presidency walked in.
I rest my case.
